No more unlimited refills on resort mugs?

I was just at POR a few weeks ago and when I checked out with my mug the CM told me that I could bring it back on our next trip because they could be used year after year.:scared1: There is no way I would ever do that anyway, but I believe that she was wrong!:rotfl2:

The change that Disney is making to the cups will not effect me & my family at all, but it will cut back on people trying to cheat the system. I'm all for that.:thumbsup2

Just got back from a short trip and used last years mug each time I got coffee I went to the cashier to pay and they said thank you have a nice day and did not charge me. This happened every time every day. Did not matter who the cashier was. I told them coffee and they said have a nice day.
So I was following the rules willing to pay but Disney cashiers did not collect. So what does that make me?

And this is one of the reasons why they implement changes like these! Shame the CM didnt spot this and charge you every single time, just because you went to the cashier and they didnt notice and said 'have a nice day' doesnt make it any less of a wrongful doing on your part because you knew you were using last years mug and you knew that you should have paid for the coffee :sad2:

Im sure there is more people than you that have done this and so this is aimed at those people too, its a shame that people cannot be honest, just because the CM didnt notice, what is stopping you from saying 'This mug is last years, what do I owe for the coffee?' :confused3 That is what someone who was 'following the rules and willing to pay' would more than likely have said!

It seems to me that she was being honest. It is not her fault that she wasn't charged. She stood there ready to pay. The cashier didn't charge her. What is she supposed to do, demand to pay? The cashier was probably happy to see someone so honest and decided to give her a little pixie dust.

Honest and ethical :). You offered to pay, they refused your money. You did the right thing. :thumbsup2

What a joke. I can not believe Disney is being so petty. The cost of the soda per glass cant be more than 0.10.

Maybe this is how they are going to finance the Fantasyland expansion!
It's about the $14 missing revenue for the sale of a new mug, not the cost of soda.

Very honest of you. BUT...the vast majority of guests don't refill their mugs until they have gone through the cashier line. The only reason the cashier would think to charge someone in the line would be if the mug were brand new and had to be paid for.

And this is what drives people nuts. I have a DxL's mug from '99. It was sold as good forever at DxL. Now, that resort is now POR...so is the DxL mug still good there??? It's sorta the same resort. But, to say that mugs bought now are good forever? Just plain wrong and that kind of statement just adds fuel to the fire. Many, many people return to WDW with old mugs...and the vast majority of food court CMs say nothing to them. BUT...I have seen CMs stop a guest from refilling an obviously old mug...not a good thing for the guest, but the CM was perfectly within their rights to follow the rules.

On our last trip to Disney the bus driver we had for the magical express was telling facts about the parks and resorts as we headed to our resort. One of the things that he mentioned was the refillable mugs and he said that you can bring these back with you on your next vacation to use. My husband and I just looked at each other knowing that it's not true. Part of the problem is people are getting wrong information.

I never get the mugs anyway, but I wonder if Disney will lower prices on our vacations with all the money they will save on fountain drinks?

I certainly wouldn't count on this.

Yell if you want. Its fine. But i resort hop. We stay 2 days at kidanni thenswitching to 2 days at yacht club then 13 days at music all back to back of each other. I dont think its right if i have to buy 12 of the exact same mugs for my vacation lenght of stay. To cover my family. If they can fix that i dont care about chips etc.

I suspect that the mug will work for the duration of your trip no matter if you stay at the same resort the entire time or resort hop.

No not demand to pay at all - I totally agree that the person had full intentions of paying for the coffee as they went to the cashier but when the cashier said have a nice day and the poster knew that they should have paid, at that point, I personally would have said something along the lines of 'I am not using a current mug, this is last years, how much is the coffee?' I know not everyone would do this but I would rather this than for the cashier to take a double check and call me out to pay for the coffee if they realised, that would have been embarrassing!

Yes it was the right thing to do to go to the cashier but when waved on, knowing that they should have paid and didnt say anything but continue to walk away without paying, thats just not right to me! Im sure that the CM turnaround is vast and maybe they didnt realise it was an old mug, but for me, knowing it was an old mug, I would point this out to them whether that is their job or not, maybe I am just too honest!

On that note, I apologise to the poster of that comment if you think my reply was harsh, I am an extremely honest person and I would have been embarrassed walking away knowing that I hadnt paid but if praise is in order for at least offering to pay then well done for offering but I wouldnt change what I would do and in this instance, that would be to point out my old mug! :goodvibes

I consider myself to be an honest person as well. BUT....in real life, at WDW, the vast majority of people do not refill their mugs and then go to the cashier. And those that do will get that reply....nope, it's free. About 98% of the CMs will tell you this, some even tell you to bring the mug back on your next visit. So, what's an honest gal to do??? I am not going to stand there, arguing with a CM over a $2.00 cup of coffee or soda.

Seriously, when Disney started going with a generic mug, nothing resort specific, we were told that was to enable guests the ability to use it at all resorts they may be staying at over one visit. There was no way guests were going to buy mugs for their family at Pop and then again at WL...just not happening, especially when the mugs were exactly the same.
Then, Disney put that 'statement' back on the side...refills are free for the duration of the stay at the resort where the mug was purchased. BUT....here's the rub..how many people are reading that underneat the handle or wherever the heck they are putting it now???
Better to just go with a bar code or a chip. That way, it's a level playing field. Not sure I like it, but it is what it is.

Im not saying anyone should argue over a cup of coffee or anything else, all I was saying is that when they wave me on and say have a nice day, I will say 'thank you but this is an old mug, how much is the coffee' - where is the arguing in that? There is none at all! My honesty doesnt stop when a CM doesnt realise their mistake, it carries right on through until I know I have paid for my goods.

I totally agree with putting the barcode on them and then its a level playing field! :thumbsup2

Sheesh..perhaps this is an example of methinks thou dost protest too much.

I thought I read a long time ago that the mugs were suppose to be resort-specific. So using the mugs across resorts was a behavior they wanted to stop. But in this case, A person who is actually straying at multiple locations during the same trip; I hope that would be an exception. I'd be surprised if the 2nd resorts didn't accommodate them some how.

Or perhaps not.....you do not know me, I simply post what I would do in this situation that is all. Whether I say it once or a hundred times is completely irrelevant and for what its worth, I would have only said it once if people had not replied to my post!

Not at all. Anyone with proper moral values should grab the cashier by their collar, hold a fist to their face, and say "Listen here buddy, I'm gonna pay for this and you're gonna like it. Understand?" :thumbsup2

I don't know.....I really think the more people talk about something the less they are actually doing it.....:confused3

ETA: I am just messin with ya LisaX...I applaud your honesty. so lacking in many these days.

Ok fair enough if that is what you think, like I said before, you do not know me but you are entitled to make assumptions based on a few posts on DIS boards about my honesty and morality, I can live with that!

Signing off this thread now! :flower3:

Doc was being as honest as he possibly could be. CM's, no matter how long they've been working there, are capable of looking over at the shelves full of new/unused mugs and tell if the mug in the persons hand is the current mug or not. Doc tried to pay, the CM didn't enforce it.

Seems to me we don't have a mug/guest problem any more than a policy that CM's don't feel comfortable enforcing, which would possibly leave guests angry and feeling "unmagical". With this new rule and all others that are a no-no, you have to ask, if it's so taboo, why isn't the rule being heavily enforced at all times?:confused3
