No more Mickey Bars

They better be on the Maiden Voyage of the Fantasy. I have just worked off 20 lbs., just so I could eat Mickey Heads.:lmao:

We should all get together to bring back the Mickey bar!:thumbsup2

Well Iam delighted that they finally have MICKEY ICE CREAM SANDWICHES!!!!!:cool1::thumbsup2:love:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE them!!...never did care for the mickey bar though.

Agree! Don't care for the yucky chocolate glazing of the bars. Hope they still have the sandwiches on our Dream cruise next sunday!

I just checked my cruise insurance policy. There is no provision for "no Mickey bars" as being an allowed reason for cancellation.

How could I have been so stupid to not make sure this was covered?! :rolleyes1

If you purchased the "Cancel For Any Reason" insurance this would be a valid reason to cancel :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Mine has that provision. You should really be more thorough next time. ;)

Me too!!! Glad I did not get DCL insurance!

Not fair! My 20 month old has a gluten intolerance - she can't have the cookie part or she'll be up all night screaming in pain! I was looking forward to the mickey bar option so she would be content while everyone else was enjoying cake and/or cookies.

Me too! They'll make me gluten-free desserts, but it would be nice to be able to have something that they didn't have to think too much about.

OH NO!! I really hope that they have them on the Maiden Fantasy. If not someone needs to walk the plank!! pirate:

Hmmm...this makes me wonder. I'm wondering if this 'sudden mickey bar shortage' is because they forgot to have the supplier ramp up for the extra 50% load that they'll need for the Fantasy? (They'll be going from a max 8800 passenger/day load to a max 12800 passenger per day -- not that they have to have that many bars per day, but they'll have to have 50% more than they did before.)

Perhaps they're saving some up so that they WILL have enough for Fantasy's maiden voyage (and a few in the pipe). This sounds entirely plausible.

Here is what my concierge said about the Mickey Bars on our Fantasy Cruise April 21, 2012:

Hello
We are happy to assist and answer your concerns.
As of now the Mickey Ice Cream have been taken off of the ships.
They are being replaced with Mickey Ice Cream sandwiches until about April from the information we have as of now.
Unfortunately we are unsure of what would be going on past that date.
Should you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know.
We look forward to sailing with you!
Have a Magical day!

Wait. You asked the concierge if there would be ice cream bars onboard?

OK, The last post of the DCL reply has me concerned. Being an avid Mickey Bar eater, I would say, why would anyone change what has definitely worked????? It sounds to me that the cruise line floated the idea of replacing the bar with a sandwich and was waiting to hear any comments. Not enough negatives on the change and the cruise line figured a change would be ok. Possibly the old vendor had a problem , production or cost and bars may only be available at the parks. I for one would like to hear from the cruiseline the reason(s) if the change is permanent.

Wait. You asked the concierge if there would be ice cream bars onboard?

Heck yeah I asked, my husband and daughter are addicts to the Mickey Bars, and if they are not available then 'my' cruise will be compromised...looking out for my best interest :rolleyes1

Well, that's disheartening. Lack of Mickey bars will not ruin our cruise by any stretch but I will be mildly disappointed if we miss out on our favourite Disney treat to enjoy on board. I guess, all I can do is hope they'll be back in time for our cruise. :sad1:

Here's the reply that I got from DCL this morning:

Dear Theresa,

Thank you for choosing a Disney Cruise Line vacation!

I would be happy to assist you.

Due to a shortage from the manufacturer, the Mickey bars may not be
available onboard. However, once onboard please check with your server
at dinner time. Also, please be aware, that all food items are subject
to change without notice.

I hope this information has been helpful. If you require further

We're going to need a status report from all future cruisers... ;)

My DS (6) loves the sandwhiches anyway...he would be thrilled. Of course he is not sailing for over a year.

I sure hope that they get them back soon for everyone! For me, I especially hope they are back for our June cruise. I can't have gluten, so most of the treats from room service are not things I can eat. I was really happy knowing that I could at least get a Mickey Bar when everyone else in the room is having cake!

If it's really a supplier issue then there may not be anything Disney can do about it. Though I would assume that if it's truly a supplier issue, then the mickey bars in the parks would also be impacted. Has anyone heard of shortages there??

We've seen with each Med season how picky Disney is with the mickey bars, since in 3 attempts they have never been able to get Mickey bars to the ship in Barcelona or find a local supplier who can produce equivalent quality at a price Disney is willing to pay.

Add my family to the list that will be very disappointed - a mickey bar with raspberry sauce (and sprinkles for the kids) is consistently my family's favorite dessert of all the deserts served onboard.
