No more Mickey Bars

Here is what my concierge said about the Mickey Bars on our Fantasy Cruise April 21, 2012:
2/28/12
Hello
We are happy to assist and answer your concerns.
As of now the Mickey Ice Cream have been taken off of the ships.
They are being replaced with Mickey Ice Cream sandwiches until about April from the information we have as of now.
Unfortunately we are unsure of what would be going on past that date.
Should you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know.
We look forward to sailing with you!
Have a Magical day!

My DD and I sail on the Fantasy on May 5th.... I'm hoping they'll be back and I'll post on this thread when we get back...

Holy Cow! You seriously ate more than 5 a day?!

They make a great Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch, Dinner, Snack item. I got to know room service quite well and our waters at lunch and breakfast found me some. I love them and its my favorite dessert

My thoughts exactly!!:cheer2:

The goofy bar was also called the 100 year of Magic bar. On our last trip to the world in late 2010 they had them in the ODF carts at epcot.

Its a regular ice cream bar with goofy imprinted on the side. I hope they didnt take them away as they were great. They were llike a mickey bar but more of the magnum shape with carmel inside.

I remember selling them when I worked ODF west at Epcot back in '02

They are great and I think working around ice cream during a short time made me love it more:yay:

I love the Mickey bars, but I also love the ice cream sandwich . Probably even more.. SonI am happy no matter which one I get. As long as I am on the cruise it's wonderful:banana:

Ok.. I'm complaining... and I like the ice cream sandwiches...

I bet the price of cocoa went up and thus the mickey bars were more expensive...

This sucks... :mad::mad::mad:

I think they were charging $4.25 :scared1: at Disneyland last December. Don't they get them from Nestle?
Doesn't Dove make the Mickey bars? I find it hard that they would not be able to keep up. Also the sandwiches cost more at the parks, so they are losing money by bringing those on.

I'd eat either if it meant I was on a ship. :goodvibes

Nestle makes them.
They use a ton of Nestle stuff (have a contract at Parks and DCL).
Even the coffee is Nestle.
Nestle would be able to keep up.

That's right! They are made by Nestle so that makes the "shortage" excuse even more unbelievable :sad2:

They should have both sandwiches and bars for the price we pay for DCL :rotfl:

Please, please, please tell me that the bolded line is a joke. No one would seriously cancel a cruise over a change in a dessert, would they?

I'm slightly bummed that they no longer have the cookie dough ice cream on CC but I wouldn't go nutty and cancel my cruise because of it. Or because a particular brand of honey mustard is no longer on the ship (which I remember the uproar over that).

DH was kidding :rotfl:
Well, I hope he was kidding... :rotfl:

Last week, on the Wonder, we were told something about a temporary problem in the manufacturing. It wasn't as if the company couldn't keep up but that something temporarily affected supply.

Need any help?

They used to be made by Dove, but that got too expensive... at least I think that's the case. At some point they started tasting less great, that's when I remember hearing they switched manufacturers...

Maybe they have a huge surplus of the (gross) mickey sandwiches and are trying to use them up before they go bad so they send them to the captive audience on the ships.:confused3

I just noticed the wrapper says, "Artificially flavored Vanilla Ice Cream with Chocolatey Coating".

Why do we like these things again?! Must be for the shape. ;)

N O NO NO ... must be a bad dream ... :guilty:

Haven't even gone on our first Disney cruise yet ...

Did you really mean to say "..must have been a bad dream" considering where it happened? :rotfl2:

Mickey Bars are HUGE. They're even putting them on luggage...

I must admit we've get one cruiser who was very happy when I told him there might be Mickey ice cream sandwiches on our March Dream cruise! That being said, I do empathize with all of you whose kids are going to be disappointed. While it's not a dealbreaker, it's some of these small touches that become part of the vacation stories we tell over and over. I mean, my kids don't get to order room service on any other trips, so it's a big dealwhen they can do it on the cruise. Hopefully the shortage won't last long, and maybe once it's over, DCL will offer BOTH the sandwiches AND the bars!
