No BWV on Resale - should we buy somewhere else?

I know I'm jumping the gun, but DH and I have some property for sale and if/when it sells we definitely want to use some of the proceeds to buy into DVC. In an ideal situation I would like to buy 150 BWV points. I've been watching all the resale boards for some time and BWV resales seem to be disappearing - especially for low point purchases. SO here's the question, if at the time we have the cash in hand, no BWV is available, should we buy OKW? OR SSR? I would anticipate our travel plans over the next few years to be as follows - two trips annually, one for Feb vacation when we would probably prefer to stay at OKW and one during Food and wine - when we'd prefer to be at the Boardwalk. Any other trips would probably be booked under the 7 month booking window - we do extra trips based on low airfares, so advance notice isn't always possible - SO I'm not sure home resort makes a difference if you go last minute anyway. In the long run, We think we'd prefer BWV just becuase we like to bop in and out of Epcot - but I'm thinking maybe we could do an add on with BWV at a later time. Any thoughts? Cash usually doesn't seem to stay in our hands very long (LOL) so when we have it, I"ll have to move fast.

My advice is to be patient - sooner or later you will find a BWV resale that meets your criteria. Food & Wine is a popular time for the EPCOT resorts - you'll be glad to have the home resort booking window. (Personally, I HATE having to worry about waitlists coming through. In my experience, the waitlist doesn't work as often as you may think from reading the posts on this board). Booking at the 7 month window (or less) for February at OKW should be doable on a regular basis.

If you haven't already, call one or more of the DVC brokers and tell them what you want. Many (if not most) of the better contracts disappear brefore they can even get listed on the websites. You really can't adequately judge what may become available just by keeping an eye on the websites.

Can't help with your problem hanging on to cash, LOL! My suggestion is to keep reaing these boards and thinking how wonderful it will be to own DVC. Maybe that will help you resist the temptation to spend your "DVC $$" on something else.

Good luck!

Go look at the resellers right now. Some new ones have just popped up that meet your needs.

Don't buy at a location that does not suit your tastes. Just be patient and you'll find the right resale property. The reason that inventory is down right now is because DVC just announced a price increase and many current owners are jumping on the smaller contracts as add-ons prior to the anticipated price escalation of the resale market (which might follow DVC's price increase). I think supply/demand on the resale market will settle back to more regular inventory levels the next few months.

Once we made the decision that we wanted our home resort to be in the Epcot/MGM area we called the 3 DVC resellers mentioned on this board and told them what we were looking for: BWV or BCV, number of points we wanted and possible use years. Within a day Maggie called with a listing that was perfect for us. No we are impaitently waiting to pass ROFR on a BWV contract.

Many of the properties in demand such as BCV and BWV never make it onto the websites. So you definitely want to be on the resellers contact list. Good Luck!

I know it's tough to be patient, but the resale you want really will pop up. (Like they suddenly did yesterday.) And do call the brokers to give yourself a better chance of being in the right place at the right time.

"Buy where you want to stay!" It will happen.
