Nicki & Todd are at it again, F&W style, snacking & drinking oh my! LIVE Tonight!!

Hi, Nicki!!! I haven't had a chance to catch up yet (we just got back last night, but I will definitely be doing that today)! I have to comment on Brenda's post though...

One of the things I wanted the most while perusing the menus was the Sazerac so even though it was a goofy name, I tried the Sazzarazz -- it was the VILEST thing I have ever had in my life -- I took two sips -- Charles wouldn't even try it -- and I ended up throwing it away. Nasty, nasty!

Tastes like licorice, right? I had it made at a small bar near the old government center in the French Quarter. Yeah, it's an "acquired" taste but it really packs a wallop. I really thought I was in trouble 15 minutes later and thought I would be heading back to the hotel early.

I am so sorry to read your Chefs review! That short ribs & pasta was one of our favorite meals last year and the main reason we made a reservation for New Year's Eve at Chefs. Not sure if I should scramble to try to change it to something else! I am thinking that we may keep it for the French Onion soup and dessert and then snack after dinner.

Thank you for taking the time again to do the reviews live while there ... I just don't think I could get organized enough to do that! Already looking forward to the next one!

Thanks for the confirmation, although I'm sorry to hear that the drink was really that bad. We learned our lesson last year with the raspberry swiller from Poland.

I'm sorry your dinner at Chefs didn't turn out so well :sad2: We've been there a few times now and have had really good meals each time. Jon loves the escargot, I like the sauce it's served in but can't eat snails  I hope that Todd sent that filet back, I never would've ordered it medium :rolleyes1 but to get it well done - BLECH!!! Profiteroles :dance3: YUM!

Hi Nicki, Great reviews and photos of yesterday's feeding frenzy. I'm with you, spend the money on signature dining. The regular table service foods seemed to be sub par on my Aug trip also. I'm happy to put that extra money toward CG. I'm shocked, the girl who won't try sushi will eat snails. Trust me, if you can do snails, you wil love sushi at CG. Have a great day eating your way through the world.

thank you so much for some more "to the point" reviews and fab foodie pictures.

I've now changed our Chefs dinner to lunch based upon what you've said.

in the uk, free dining is pretty much on offer for 6 months of the year, this year from Aug-mid Dec, next year is similar. I do wonder if the free dining has dampened food quality on this trip for you, because it wasn't available in your earlier trips this year?

Hi there! Enjoying your live TR as always!
We ate at Chefs de France about a month ago and thought exactly what you did - not worth it! DH had to send his salmon back b/c it was so overcooked. Their prices are ridiculous for the quality of food they are bringing out. I will say that their bread is some of the best though!

Wow, Nic sorry your dinner was a bust at Chefs:sad2: Some places just do lunch better than dinner.

Have a wonderful last day!:goodvibes

My DH and I got Rosa Regale when we were there on our honeymoon and took a pic of the bottle because we liked it so much .. the bottle was expensive at WDW, but it was only about $28 back in Boston. )

We bought a bottle in WDW this past June for $29.99. We couldn't find it anywhere here in NYC! :sad2: Then on a whim, we stopped in the liquor store while waiting for chinese take out near our weekend home in Poconos, PA and would you believe they had it there for $18.99!:yay: DH could not believe that our small little country town in PA sold it, but not one liquor store in Manhattan!! :rotfl:

Nicki, I am all caught up (reading while on my lunch break and missing Food and Wine after seeing your pictures). :thumbsup2 We ate at Tutto Italia Saturday night and loved it -- now after reading your review of Il Mulino, I want to try that next!

Afternoon, Nic. Hope you are having a marvelous last day at the World and enjoying yourself. Safe travels home (watch those radar guns), and we look forward to your final reviews when you are rested. Mark has taken Chefs France OFF the list for dinner after reading your review.

Sorry to hear you had a not so great experience at Chefs de France. We ate there in April and I got the short ribs and they were outstanding. No fat to be found and no knife needed either. I did find the escargot to be tough though which is so not how they are supposed to be I actually feel the escargot served at the France F&W booth is better!

When it comes to booze I'm an eagle eye! :lmao:

It was actually Nicki's review first because she described it as something fruity and as I was reading I was thinking, "Nick must have had one too many because there sure as heck ain't no fruit in sazerac!" :lmao:

And then I saw her picture.

And then I felt much outrage.

And if I didn't have to get up early tomorrow for work I'd go make a real sazerac to mourn Epcot's failures.

:lmao:

Hey Brenda
I just had that cocktail the description says fruit juice and it looks like red wine but it smells and taste like Maker's Mark. I've never had the original and I'm not a big hard liquor drinker, but it was as strong as any mint julep I've ever had and less sweet. I did see her add the bitters too so it's not as premixed as it looks. It was by far the strongest thing I had this trip, and I had to throw away half of it, DH wouldn't drink more than a sip.
Lynn

That stinks that your meal at Chefs de France was disappointing. We usually go for lunch and we were thinking about trying it for dinner but maybe we'll pass. Love the F&W pics.. I've always wanted to get down there for it but it's right in the middle of my semester :headache:. Awesome pics though! You inspired me to get a souvlaki for dinner!

So I finally finished reading your reviews that are up so far, and I can't wait to hear about your last day.

I'm going to have to give Fulton's a try sometime next year.

You were exactly right about what Todd was going to get at Flying Fish, I'm glad you had a good meal there.

I'm suprised you got carded, I apparently don't get carded anymore, and I'm only 25, I guess I look old. I think the only time I got carded all week was in China. The frozen mojito is something else I had wanted to try, but just never felt like drinking in the afternoon.

Sounds like people were crazy at MK on Saturday. You were right about crowds being insane at Epcot though that day, I escaped to the Festival Center around 1:00, which was at least cool, and stayed there until PFTS.

I'm sorry they didn't have the Oreo cookies at Main St. Bakery, I know you wanted one there since Todd didn't let you get one at Goofy's.

Looks like I'll have to try Il Mulino sometime too. That white pizza looks delicious.

I tried the corn and cheese arepa too, and I agree, it was weird, the cheese on top was the best part, and that's not saying much. And wasn't that soulvaki yummy? One of the best things at the booths that I tried.

I'm sorry Chefs was bad, my other friend that ate there didn't really care for it either. I'm glad I cancelled that for Kouzzina.

My DH and I got Rosa Regale when we were there on our honeymoon and took a pic of the bottle because we liked it so much .. the bottle was expensive at WDW, but it was only about $28 back in Boston. We buy it every few years on our anniversary (the ONLY non-white wine I like!)

I get mine from Publix...we drink it on our date nights..such good stuff!

I am soo glad you said you would go back to Cape May...Yes I am compulsivlely already planning out my ADR's for our Dec 2010 trip that we have not yet even booked!!!! I was on the fence about Cape may...

We love Cape May and I tried so hard to get in for this trip but no luck..

Nicki, I am so going to read all of your reviews first thing in the morning. I'd read them now, but all I want right now is a nice long shower, to get all that yucky Florida water out of my hair.

It was so great meeting you, and I am so glad I got the chance to. I did finally manage to get over to China and try the peach Schnapps drink yesterday, was so refreshing in the heat. And Jiko was wonderful, but after leaving you and Todd at the Boardwalk, I actually ended up eating dinner at Wolfgang Puck Express too. :rolleyes1 But I had counter service credits I had to use.

So glad you made it home safe and sound, how is the cat? Cannot wait to get started on your review either! Ooh two dinners? That is right up my hubby's alley!

Loving your straight to the point, yet detailed enough reviews! Wish you had a better experience at Chefs. I want to try the Mac and Cheese there!

Thank you...I remember that I enjoyed the mac and cheese there and I would go back for lunch in a heartbeat just not for dinner.

Ok, on to Nicki's review of Chefs de France:

Wow. I'd be really disappointed if I had the dinner you had. I felt I had a mediocre meal at the French Regional Lunch last year at Bistro de Paris, but I'm given them a chance for dinner in a couple weeks.

At least they didn't muck up the most important part. Dessert! ;)

I was very bummed...such a sour note to go out on...but yeah, the dessert was great! :worship:

Glad I found this! It's so nice to have someone do all this hard work for us so we can make better decisions at Disney World.

MickeyNicki, you have seem to have confirmed that items that are geared towards the dining plan are pre-cooked and not presented very well. The main course at most high dollar restaraunts would have been sent back by the waiter before it reached the table. The manager would have probably apologized if something like that actually reached the table. For $40 a plate you deserved much better.

When you move away from those items it looks as if they are much better prepared and probably not started until you order it. I hope you have a great last day and have a safe trip home. :goodvibes

I am glad you found it too! I hope my reviews help fellow Disers..I rely heavily on them myself...but I also understand that everyone's tastes are different and what I might love someone else might say BLECH!

As far as the other TS places...we found a similar problem with lunch today..but you have to wait until I post today's pics to find out where!

So glad you made it home safe and sound, how is the cat? Cannot wait to get started on your review either! Ooh two dinners? That is right up my hubby's alley!
According to my dad the cat is fine. I haven't seen her yet. I was going to go to my parent's house today, but never did. I'm doing something with my mom on Wednesday, so hopfully I'll see kitty then, and can give her the bowl I got her in Disney.

When I went to DTD that night I wanted a snack, and ended up at WPE, I was going to get the side of mac and cheese, but then decided the salad sounded really good, but instead of paying $12 for it, I used a CS credit. Which then of course added on a dessert that I totally didn't need.

Then at Jiko, not only did I get an entree and dessert on the plan, but I had to order an appetizer OOP as well.

Could be they had an off night as we never had a bad meal here before...I appreciate you reading my reviews...I require little sleep and I admit, I am a freak about organization, cleaning etc and that keeps me going late at night ha ha

He would have sent it back if anyone bothered to check up on us....it was mass pandamonium in there and DH just ate it so we could make the concert and not waste our night. The butter that the snails come in is heaven...I could have that and a crusty loaf of bread and be very happy!

:rotfl: I know, DH thinks I am nuts that I will try everything except sushi but I promise, the next time we go to Cali Grill I am going to order it! From here on out all dinners will have to be signature, never had a bad experience at those!

I appreciate you reading them...in my own little mind I have become quite the food critic...I need to taste everything so I can tell you the real deal :rotfl: It could be that the TS places are just so busy that they have really speed prepped the food. Do you recall the movie National Lampoons Europe Vacation? The Griswold's go to Europe and in France they order their meals, and in the kitchen they chefs are microwaving frozen entrees and dumping it on a plate and sticking a French Flag in it? Well that is what our meal at Chefs felt like :rotfl2:

We made it home safe, sound and in one piece! Tell Mark I will find him a new place to go to for dinner :rotfl:

Sorry to hear you had a not so great experience at Chefs de France. We ate there in April and I got the short ribs and they were outstanding. No fat to be found and no knife needed either. I did find the escargot to be tough though which is so not how they are supposed to be I actually feel the escargot served at the France F&W booth is better!

I remember the snails from the F&W booth to be much better than the ones at Chefs too...hmm I missed out this time!

Lunch at Chefs was awesome! I need to make some Greek food this weekend!

So I finally finished reading your reviews that are up so far, and I can't wait to hear about your last day. Last day coming up soon, if not tonight first thing in the am I promise!

I'm going to have to give Fulton's a try sometime next year. Oh you should!

You were exactly right about what Todd was going to get at Flying Fish, I'm glad you had a good meal there. Do I know the boy or what :goodvibes

I'm suprised you got carded, I apparently don't get carded anymore, and I'm only 25, I guess I look old. I think the only time I got carded all week was in China. The frozen mojito is something else I had wanted to try, but just never felt like drinking in the afternoon. I could not believe that I looked young enough to check ID!

Sounds like people were crazy at MK on Saturday. You were right about crowds being insane at Epcot though that day, I escaped to the Festival Center around 1:00, which was at least cool, and stayed there until PFTS. It was mobbed yesterday too and last night and today!

I'm sorry they didn't have the Oreo cookies at Main St. Bakery, I know you wanted one there since Todd didn't let you get one at Goofy's. Yeah me too, there is always next time!

Looks like I'll have to try Il Mulino sometime too. That white pizza looks delicious. It was fantastic!

I'm sorry Chefs was bad, my other friend that ate there didn't really care for it either. I'm glad I cancelled that for Kouzzina.
I wish I did that!

Hope you had a wonderful last day and safe trip home :goodvibes

Thank you, we did!

Glad to see you made it home safe, but bummer about Chefs. I hope your last day was better!

Thanks for the details, Lynn. I think based on what you've said and what others have reported that I will just pass on this "thing" and get beer instead. Is there anything beer can't do?

Nicki ... sorry for holding an AA meeting on your review thread! :rotfl2:
