he s sticking with it because the guys saying those numbers are pretty much dead on all the time, so if multiple guys are saying it who are pretty much right all the time ill go with their number
you cant have a TSL and a Star wars land and then keep the LMA theater and back of the park the same...something is changing back there

Ahhhh...insiders?

TOTS...as always

No 2.8 is still the number. Toy story, Star Wars, phase 3, parking and other things all add up to 2.8 billion. Phase 4 would be extra if they end up doing it or not. Lots of little stuff can add up like new shows, entertainment, and refurb a to existing attractions.

I would put the infrastructure at around 1 billion but not much more than that.

C'mon - a billion dollars in infrastructure in an already existing park? No friggin' way. They build entire cruise ships for a billion dollars. They built DAK for a billion dollars. You're telling me that they are going to make such improvements to infrastructure that it'll cost that much? No way.

I think what Pete is saying is how much of that big, grandiose number can be attributed to Infrastructure?

I'm also surprised you are sticking/trusting that "2.8" number as much as you are, my young apprentice...

Have they earned that kinda trust?

Exactly - boy can't believe we agree again. Just because someone on a message board spouted out $2.8 billion doesn't make it so. I'm not saying they aren't putting a ton of money into the park. Even A billion dollars is a MASSIVE cash infusion into an existing park, and I think we can clearly see it'll be more than that, but $2.8 billion based on what they announced so far and an existing land and some improved infrastructure is silly.

But really what I guess I'm trying to get at is we shouldn't get all gaga or upset over a number. Improvements are planned. While I usually subscribe to the "shovels in the ground" words, I think that TSL and SWL are sure to be coming, and if they are doing those to, they very likely will HAVE to do some additional stuff.

We spent a grand total of 9 hours at DHS this past trip, and were able to do almost EVERYTHING in the park, and even did the GMR and TSMM twice. (We didn't do LMA, Muppets, or Disney Junior, but did everything else.) IF OMD and VotLM closes, that'll cut out another hour. I have no doubt they realize what a dearth of stuff is in this park. And I have no doubt they will be spending plenty of money to fix it. The number doesn't really matter.

I'm sticking to it for now. I don't see anything to lead me to believe it's not true at the moment. Again not everything has been announced. This park also has one of the worst designs for a theme park ever. I have no problem believing the number for this park exceeds 2 billion. 2.8 could still change of course depending on what they end up building with the phase 3.

Yeah the guys that are always right.

That first said we were getting PixarLand, then ToyStoryLand, then back to Pixarland. Also said TSL would just have a couple of kiddie spinners. Then they were saying the rides were being diverted from Shanghai. Mostly wrong information. No one mentioned a full scale roller coaster. No one. Getting the existance of Star Wars land right takes no insider knowledge at all.

Here's the thing you have to realize - insiders that are REALLY in the know - and I mean really know what's happening - ain't posting insider information on message boards. I'm not saying "spirit" and his ilk aren't employees, or even maybe in imagineering, but they aren't the decision makers. The decision-makers aren't going to risk losing their jobs over posting to a message boards. So throwing around ANY cost # is just plain BS. In fact, it's unlikely there is a FIXED cost number associated with the entire project. An estimate sure, but especially if the 3rd land is only in the planning or talking about stages.

Again, just saying - don't get hung up on a number - especially when it's clearly false.

I don't think you can clearly say it's false. We don't know yet. I guess will agree that it may not be 2.8 billion exactly but I definitely see the budget exceeding 2 billion. The insiders haven't said much on specifics in regards to what was going to happen because things are changing all the time. You have people like Jim Hill who do say specifics. Spirit hasn't posted anything since before D23 and basically everything he said up until that point has been right. There have been a lot of NDAs in this project meaning leaks are very little at this point. Star Wars wasn't even supposed to be announced at D23 but was because of the Disney stock dropping. Reason? Because Star Wars doesn't start construction until 2017 and likely won't be done until 2020 why announce it already and have another avatar. I will agree that no one said a coaster, but there still is a spinner.

but they obviously have connections..Spirit listed the complete rides and attractions list for Shanghai as well as when they would be announced... he also said George K would become President of WDW way before it was announced

Wouldnt you find it odd that they do TSL and star wars land and then leave the back part of the park unchanged even thought the park is getting rebranded? doesnt add up, not to mention people like robert niles are saying the same thing

you gotta have something to announce later

really the only thing i ve ever noticed them being wrong about was the Avatar stuff simply because they didnt know

It is great that they are bringing in Star Wars Launch Bay to DHS. However, I really wish it was somehow near Star Tours. I feel like it is in a random spot next to Disney Jr and Voyage of the Little Mermaid.

To a large extent the number is irrelevant because this much is clear, it was a multi-year budget and that means it can be changed at any point in the future. Even digging a hole in the ground doesn't actually commit Disney to finish construction (though it might be awkward if that hole was Echo Lake). Is it $2.8 Billion or $2.5 billion or $3 billion? Doesn't matter really. We can't prove the figure certainly, but it's hardly worth any time trying to disprove it.

What matters is that it's a multi-phase plan two of which are close to guaranteed (barring some sort of massive crash), phase 3 likely if they can stay in budget on the first 2 and phase 4 at least possible.

It's the best spot for it right now. It's going to act as a preview center for Star Wars and will most likely move or close when the actual land opens up.

It says there is a character meet and greet where The Magic of Disney Animation used to be? Has that always been there?

Yep, Sorcerer Mickey, Minnie Mouse, the Incredibles and the latest movie characters used to meet there.

I agree...kind of just wedged into a convenient place.

I think this is exactly where I'm at...

All the "insiders" on these boards are around for self gratification...which means they talk way too much and just guess when there's nothing certifiable there.

Some people come on here for real info...some come to pass the time (hand up here)...but the "I'm in the know...I just don't get paid to do this"/Napoleon types are the really dangerous ones.

The magic of Disney animation is currently closed. Sorcerer Mickey now meet near the entrance to backlot tour. There are Disney junior meet and greet in that area.
