News Round Up 2016

Can't say I wanted PTN to leave Disneyland, to be honest. I hope that particular rumor is true, especially if the purpose is to refurbish it. It's dissapointing to hear WDW might not have a night time parade for a while though. They will probably give MK its own parade in time for the 50th, but in the mean time it seems like their plan is to save some coins here and there... At least it looks like a lot of developments are going into both resorts over the next few years.

They are making sound Marvel land like a quite exciting development.

This thanks to Martin. The only thing that I don't know if I want is a new Epcot nighttime show. I want an upgraded illuminations but I don't want an IP infested show.

Fully agree with this. I think Illuminations is so unique that it is nice as an IP-less show vs what they will have in DHS and MK ... plus it still seems to draw crowds

Huge amounts of complaints and lower attendance coupled with lower spending may show the need for one again but there isn't a straight answer for that unfortunately.

Technically if you look at WDW as a whole, not just MK, they have added 2 night time shows (Star Wars fireworks/ROL) and taken away one (MSEP). I'm sure they are factoring that into things and may be an effort to spread out the masses among the 4 parks as MK has really become over crowded in recent years. This is assuming ROL actually debuts in Oct as rumored.

Question: How much different/better is the Christmas Illuminations than the regular one?

I still enjoy Illuminations as much now as the first time I saw it. However all of our WDW trips have been in Dec so I've never seen the regular show. Maybe the Christmas show is that much better?

The main show is the same, no changes. But at the end of that show they add on to it, IIRC it's about 5 minutes, of holiday themed music and a ton of fireworks.

This is very true - we can call it a "penny pinching" move and it certainly in a way is - but by having two new night-time shows at other parks - they may be trying to force people over to those other parks and reduce crowds at those parks.

However, as of right this minute - There is no listing for the Star Wars fireworks after October 2nd, and of course no word on ROL. I believe that the first one will change - but as of right now my mid-October trip shows neither of them will be available, nor MSEP. So for now I would call it Penny Pinching. If they add the two shows in October, then it might be shrewd planning.

Is it possible for them to run Festival of Fantasy at night? I'd be so bummed if there was no nighttime parade. As silly as it sounds, that's always the highlight of my nights at the MK.

Well - I agree that it's likely that the fireworks will keep just as many people in the parks at night - but there are significant people that leave after the parade, so there must be some people for whom it is an important focus. I think those with smaller kids especially would favor the parade over the fireworks, since the loudness of fireworks scare off a lot of kids. (Our DD is 13 and still complains about fireworks.)
Bingo. We do MSEP, and last year did Boo to You, and then leave the parks as the fireworks start. We get nighttime entertainment without the booms, and the kids get to bed at a more reasonable hour. If we do fireworks, it's nearly always Illuminations because it's the adults' favorite and if we only get one, that's what we'll do. RoL may fit the bill, but chickens, hatched, etc.

Wow so this new Disney Netflix agreement will be adding 1 whole movie that

I don't understand this. DIII football teams have better liver stream productions then the past 2 I have seen from WDW.

I take offense in thinking that the division 3 basketball broadcasts my school TV station produces is even comparable to Disney lol. We can do leaps and bounds better

I think it's a little of both. Cost cutting at an opportune time with a secondary purpose.

Rumor

Just saw this from Disney character news on Twitter. It's possible MSEP floats will be repurposed for that new marvel parade micechat talked about.

Anyone have any ideas of whether the Star Wars fireworks are continuing throughout October? I've been wanting to book the dessert party for ages but the hours only go up to October 1st!

They have only been updating it about a month out and I think usually come out on Friday, so hopefully this Friday they will extend them

They build infrastructure just for this show so I can't imagine it won't continue at a minimum to the end of the year but likely well beyond. I suppose in theory they could reduce the number of nights they do it during slower periods but I would be shocked if it is just totally ended anytime soon
