Newest Ms Change!

I doubt that. Most of the small contracts I've seen were bought by folks who couldn't afford 150 points and didn't want to finance. Their strategy was buy small and add on as additional money becomes available.

It is certainly possible that a commercial renter could buy a small contract, but that's not the common type of purchaser I've seen on the ROFR thread.

I wasn't talking about commercial renters, I was thinking of people who buy small and then rent points for transfer in. There have been threads here on the dis recommending just that to potential DVCers who can't afford 100+ points, or those who are thinking of selling some of their contracts -- "keep your 25-point contract so you are still in DVC and can rent points for transfer."

There is a reason that those contracts are snapped up instantly from the TTS and at premium prices, and I don't think it's commercial renters. This change by MS penalizes the small-time owner, encourages purchase of larger contracts, and does nothing to cut down on commercial renters who use their own points to rent reservations on ebay.

Lets get one thing straight. This has not been the rule forever. It changed in 2003 to allow multiple in OR out but not both. If it's changed back so be it but it is not simply a matter of enforcing a rule that has been there all along. Those posting otherwise are either ill informed or have an agenda, or both.

Exactly! I'm getting tired of hearing it's been a rule all along when we just joined in 2006 and the paperwork WE got allows multiple transfers in or out but not both. I DO know how to read.

Amen!!! It seems to be the same group of posters on every thread. Give it a rest .... you are wrong!!!!

So do I.

And I agree with this post:

My POS dated 2/11/2004 states per membership:

During a given Use Year, a Club Member may, per membership, either Transfer or receive Transfered Vacation Points, but may not both Transfer and receive Transferred Vacation Points.

To find it, read page 46 of your Feb 2006 POS straight from Disney. It's item 6, number 10.

If this policy stays it will not allow those of us who are friends and DVC members to vacation together as easily as we did this May. Here's why:

We had 4 DVC members in our overall party of 8 and we decided we wanted to stay in a Grand Villa. To have ONE reservation three of us transferred our share of points to our other friend which allowed us to have her control the reservation and have it continue (eg no check outs and check back ins). We had a blast - will we do it again this way if we have to make single night ressies to accomodate the transfer rules that are now in place (and by the way I purchased under the language above at SSR not the original language)? No we probably won't. We could go elsewhere - what a shame.

Agree!

BTW, there's an inherent difference between being able to "afford" the 150 pt. purchase of whatever resort DVC happens to be selling and the strategy of making minimum purchases w/the intent to have the 11 month advantage @ several different resorts.

Seemed like a good idea @ the time...worst case scenario, if they're clamping down on transferring, members still have the ability to bank & borrow or add on (in 25 point increments)...that is, unless that provision is subject to change also @ DVC's discrection/whim in the future.:confused3

Wouldn't each of you be able to make the reservation for a few nights of the entire stay and link the reservations to get pretty much the same results?

In all the POS that I have (I have four), there are multiple references to transferring points. Perhaps there is more than one reference that will give you additional information?

Could be. Quote the page reference then, please.

The latest one I have is dated 7/2001. I found at least four references to transferring. The page numbers are different in each POS since they have to add information about the newest resort, companies that we can trade out with at the time of the POS, etc.

If your POS is not dated 7/2001, you'll have to look through it because I don't have that one.

Mine from 3/2002 says one in and one out. Mine from 7/2003 just says transfer in OR out but not both. And as of earlier in 2006 it's reported the language had not changed again. And given that there have been no filings with Orange County on this, I doubt it has.
