Newbie trying to figure it all out - VGC??

The seller returned their closing docs so we are wiring the money over today and I'm kind of freaking out about it! For one, I hope we do it right! And two...it's a lot of money that feels like it just goes *poof* since we won't be using points anytime soon.
I know the feeling. But don’t worry. It’s the whole reason why you have a closing agent and escrow.

Have my appointment set up at the bank for later today. I guess they just don't want people wiring larger sums from the comfort of their homes. Hopefully this will be fairly quick and painless. I always have major anxiety about these kinds of appointments.

So after they receive my funds...what happens next?

The agonizing wait for Disney to create your account and then more waiting for them to actually load your points! But you will be in the final stretch!

This is going to sound dumb...but on the closing thread, people list a closing date. What exactly happens on that date? Do we have more things to sign after we send our funds?

No more signing required for you! I got an email from Mason saying the transaction had been finalized, and considered that my closing date lol The email also contained all the info regarding Disney being notified about the transfer of ownership and how long that process should take.

Thanks! I'm excited to be in the end stages.

I was just looking at available VGC contracts for the points/use year we like and there aren't many out there. And the asking prices are all over 260pp. So I'm glad we decided to jump in instead of waiting a couple months.

Welcome home! About a week after you close; you can call up Member Services at DVC and ask them to setup your contract and load the points.

Welcome to the VGC club :)

Do I have to call then or will they automatically get it set up?

I hope I can link it into the regular account I already use on the app and whatnot? I guess I'm pretty clueless on how DVC accounts work.

FYI, it takes about two weeks and then you will get an email with a membership number and then have to wait a couple of hours for an activation code. (Or maybe that is reverse). You can message MS via chat the next business day to see if they can upload the points. It will depend on how busy they are and with no ROFR I think they are extremely busy (just like the DVC brokers).

You will have it tied to one email and your husband will need to set up a separate Disney log-in and email so he can download his DVC member card if needed.

Thanks.

We just got back from the bank and I'm kind of freaking out. I was looking at the receipt and I'm not sure the address is right! I just emailed Cammy about it but like I said...I'm freaking out.

Thanks.

I'd call to get a quicker answer - hope all is well!

Mason should be able to confirm the wire when you call to check with them. Sometimes the address auto fills at the bank based on the account/routing number. I wouldn’t worry.

I'm going to put my doctor hat on for a second. You're starting to worry more and more about this. This can turn what is an exciting moment into an aversive experience. This will work out. Most of us here have done the same thing you have and it's all gone smoothly. It's normal to feel somewhat intimidated by sending large sums of money but also keep in mind that this is an exciting and aspirational purchase that you've achieved. Frame this purchase in a joyous perspective because that's what it is. You can always anticipate things going wrong but the cost is high: losing pleasure in the moments that are meaningful.

As an addendum, constantly checking on the forums if you've done things correctly is going to increase doubt after the initial relief.

Remember VGC!

With Chase, whether you do it online at home or in a branch, the address associated with the ABA number is different than the one listed on the paperwork from Mason. My guess is one is the main office associated with the ABA number and the other is Mason’s local branch.

Regardless, as long as the ABA and account numbers are correct, the money is going where it needs to go (even if you put down 1313 S. Harbor Blvd., Anaheim). The more important information is the contract number as all of those wire transfers are going into the same main Mason escrow account and you want to make sure your file gets credited properly.

Yep, when I saw it while we were there I commented on the address not matching the instructions and he mentioned the autofill but he didn't really explain it.

Don't worry...we are definitely excited about this purchase!

Yeah, that's what was going on. The address I was seeing was the branch office but the address on the instructions was completely different so that's why I was worried. But all is well!

I got an email confirmation that our funds were received. She said I'd get notified on closing. PHEW! We're in the home stretch. And now we wait for Disney!

So at the bank, as the guy was going through the instructions he was like..."Is this for a timeshare or something?" And I was wondering if he'd get judgmental about it. I thought to myself "oh...here we go..." I told him it's Disney Vacation Club which is technically a time share. And his eyes lit up. He was like "We go to to Disney World every year or so!" I told him that our contract is for Disneyland but we can use the points at WDW too. He was saying how this was an exciting purchase and he was jealous. And about how they are planning to go out to Disneyland sometime since it's been 10 years and he mentioned the hotel where you can walk right into the park and I said that's what our contract is for. When we mentioned the contract was good until 2060 he was shocked. I wonder if he'll go home and Google Disney Vacation Club. Ha!

And so it begins….

Did you give him the DISboards DVC Purchasing forum link?

Haha...no. He didn't really ask for much info so he probably isn't seriously considering it or anything. But who knows.
