Newbie trying to figure it all out - VGC??

A flight you say? Christmas trip! Christmas trip!

To where though?? Too late for VGC. Ha!

If we get the points sooner than we expected....we'll have to decide if we want to keep our plan for driving June 2024. Or maybe fly out in April 2024 instead. Decisions, decisions!

I really do hate flying though.

Congratulations and welcome home!

If the earlier WDW convo was about a 2nd home resort at WDW after VGC, I would suggest that you look at something that's different from VGC (ie not WL DVC). And look beyond studios - BLT has tiny studios but terrific larger units, and the walk really IS that short, with its own security line. We are staying there in August and I had a waitlist going for BWV but I may just cancel it because it's a good value for a standard room.

When we go to WDW we don't rent a car - my favorites for transportation:

MK: BLT > VGF > Poly
EP: BWV > BCV
Riviera somewhere in there depending if you like the Skyliner (sounds like you don't)
HS: BWV >> BCV
Although we have made it from BCV to Brown Derby for a dinner reservation, jogging, in 20 minutes 🏅It had fully negated the reason we were leaving from BCV to begin with, though (to shower!)
AK: AKV

Most places, if you can walk, it will be faster than the transportation option, and when we had kids in strollers, we often chose to walk. That said - to/from VGF we have rarely walked (it's a long walk) and we usually take the monorail going and the boat coming home.

We are just looking at booking a WDW trip in 2025 with our VGC points. So it needs to be something we can get 6/7 nights in a row in a studio at the 7-month mark. Right now I think I'm probably leaning more toward Boardwalk. But who knows, I guess.

Probably be easier and cheaper to rent your VGC and flip to do same with WDW trip. Or a swap.

I don’t think that always pencils out if you report correctly on your taxes.

Swap is easier said than done because you don’t have control of your own reservation.

Yeah, the studios go so quickly…. 1 and 2 BDs are a bit easier.

Why is BWV better location than BCV for epcot, I thought BCV was closer to the gate? Never stayed in either so curious.
Sorry to tell you that BCV is closer to Epcot.. the walk from BWV is like 5-7ish mins more but it is very nice

Congrats on the closing
BCV is definitely closer to the Epcot gate, when you take the not-so-secret back way, and it is super convenient, BUT - in addition to being more scenic, when walking from BWV you can pick up coffee and breakfast and eat it on the BW or on your way to Epcot. So the ">" doesn't include time alone but all the other factors that imo make BWV preferable even for an Epcot visit. That said, I have stayed at both and like them both.

Yeah....I've thought about the renting option but since we'd like go with a bigger, well-known site...I feel like it would almost even out, price-wise and not be worth the effort. I mean, if we can't get ANYTHING at the 7-month mark, I'd be more likely to consider it. So I guess we'll see how it goes. I'm warming up to the idea of a garden view studio at Boardwalk.

As for our next (first!) DVC trip...we're probably going to end up sticking with our June plan. My husband seems pretty set on driving and we don't want to pull our son out extra days to do that in April.

June is already hot + busy. Just plan for that -- very different from DLR in June. More like Aug in DLR with the Santa Ana going . I would stay though DLR in Aug peak is much worse crowds than WDW even in holidays (we were there ROTR holiday 2019). Only place WDW maybe busier is the chokepoint between PP and SmallWorld.

Oh..yeah...our June 2024 trip will be at VGC. We won't be doing WDW until January 2025. I refuse to go to WDW in the summer. (Or spring...or Fall. Ha!) I don't do well in excessive heat and humidity.

We are expecting a garden view BW Villa if we go in March 2024, prioritizing walking distance to parks as the #1 factor.

We do WDW in August. It's like vacationing in hell, but we always get BCV at 7 months! 🥵

You'll have to let me know how it goes. I was looking at the satellite and am I right to assume that the garden views are pretty far back from the boardwalk area?

You are a brave soul! Even Disneyland in June is so hot for me. We go camping (in an RV) in the midwest in the summer and I spend the hottest part of the day inside the camper (with the AC blasting) or in a pool. Ha!

We're from Hawaii. We're used to the tropical heat. Don't get me wrong. Hawaii is much more pleasant with our wonderful trade winds. Orlando is next level humid and hot. I've heard someone describe it as the Devil's arm pits. I tend to agree. But it's still fun. Crowds in late August are relatively low. And we just go around the parks wearing swim clothes, going in and out of wet rides, into a storm, and into a pool. We're either always wet from our sweat, or wet rides, or the pool, or from the rain. After awhile, you just stop noticing that you're wet all the time. The only con is being wet in an indoor cue, in the A/C where it's freezing. And the other plus side is that hard to get resorts like BCV are pretty wide open, especially the 1BRs. Can't have it all!

Not really. It’s actually Pool/Garden view, so any villa on the left side of the map linked below that doesn’t look directly at the Boardwalk or at the front driveway or parking lot is considered P/G. That means views of either pool or of the area labeled Croquet Court. Even the villas that look onto the Village Green are P/G view.

Ohh. So you don't choose pool OR garden view. They just give you one of those. Looks like a lot of possibilities then.

I worry about being close to that club or whatever it is...if it's got loud music. I have misophonia and certain sounds drive me absolutely crazy. Thumping music is one of them. We have been at hotels where a loud bar or club is nearby and I can't handle when I can hear the bass from music.

Even when we last stayed at the Desert Inn and Suites on Harbor, we could hear the thumping music from the rooftop bar a few buildings away. It was awful.

Just request “view of pool” and you’ll be far enough away from Jellyrolls not to have any problems. If you like afternoon naps, request “view of quiet pool” specifically, because the afternoon activities at Luna Pool don’t allow any napping!
