Newbie... thinking about Aulani!

If you plan to book your DVC stays like you used the Rent/Trade Board, you probably won't be very happy when you can't get anything you want to book.

Hi!

When we were using the rent/trade boards, we were only looking for a studio I believed (ended up being a 1 br that we purchased both times), but we want to join DVC in order to get larger accommodations. Thanks for taking the time to research my profile haha. I appreciate your concern.

It's not the size villa that is the problem, it's the days/months you are booking ahead. You'll need to book out a lot more than a month or two or a week ahead. And it sounds like that might be a concern for you based on your earlier post.

Smaller contracts are more desirable and generally command higher prices. My 50 pointer sold in a day, 130 pointer in a couple of weeks. I have seen larger contracts on the market for months with larger points. 1400 points is quite an investment and suggests you plan on spending lot of time at DVC resorts. Why not start with 200-300 points and make sure this is how you want to spend all of your vacations. We had DVC for 18 years - and our tastes and interests changed until we decided to sell this year.

Be careful - buying at today's prices it will take some time before you will be able to break even. And with all of the rule changes, prices could be negatively impacted. Aulani is a great resort - but 1400 points seems like a really, really big investment to make in a place that is a flight away.

It sounds like you recognize your vacation style, and can't plan months ahead. If you like DVC, do it. Just as long as you realize you will have to be flexible as to accommodation size and location. And I'm sure at some point, you will probably be able to to book long range. Good luck-we love DVC and just wish we had done it earlier (prices were $95/pt when we bought in...wish we had bought more!).
