New to vacation club and in need of assistance.

SSR is our home resort however my in-laws are planning on going on vacation with us in 11/09 and would like to stay at the BCV. How should I go about doing this? I am I able to reserve SSR at 11 months and request to be waitlisted for BCV? Also what should i know about being on the waitlist to avoid losing points? I am confused as to how the whole process works. Thank you in advance for your assistance!

At 11 months, you can reserve your home resort.

At 7 months, you can reserve all other resorts. BCV are extremelely popular, so there's no guaranty that you'll get them at 7 months.

The safest bet may be to make both reservations for your home resort at 11 months. Then at 7 months you can see if there's an opening at BCV and switch one reservation to BCV.

There are a hundred different strategies people use, but the key concept to remember is you can book your home resort, and only your home resort, at 11 months. All other resorts at 7 months.

It sounds like the previous poster gave you the best answer. We just bought at SSR last April and are making our first trip down as DVC members next month. We would also like to try the other resorts at some point, but I guess availability will depend on the time that we choose to go. I'm not sure what your concern was about losing your points, but if you do get the opportunity to switch over your reservation I guess you will have to make sure that you get everything confirmed and keep track of the paperwork.
Your post also caught my eye because we live in the Capital District in Niskayuna. Good luck with your plans!

I'll just repeat, you need to call immediately at the 7 month mark. But u mentioned Nov. This is a VERY popular month for those that go to enjoy Food and Wine Festival and BWV and BCV are probably THE most sought after resorts for this particular time period. BCV is a very small resort so not sure how good your chances are. I think you'd have an easier time getting BWV (I have gotten this resort in Oct (also during Food & Wine) based on the fact this resort is larger. And if you're not planning on going during F&W, Thanksgiving and lower points follow also making it tough to get. Good luck.

We are going to attempt a similar scenerio for next Christmas. We will reserve our home resort at 11 month, then at the 7 month window we will try for others.

If it were me, I'd book at my home resort at the 11 month window. Then, at the 7-month window I would try to move the reservation to the BCV. If that was not possible I"d go with the BWV (again, if possible) and waitlist for the BCV. That way you'd have something in that area. If the BWV was also not available then I'd keep my home resort reservation and waitlist for the BCV.
