I just found out this from one of my friends that this is the place to find places to stay on-site Disney. I so don't understand the points buying/ renting thing. We are planning to travel February 11-18 next year for family of 8 and I don't know how many points you need for that or anything. Please someone enlighten me...

Welcome hcting to the rent/trade section of disboards. This area is the safety net for DVC members who for some reason or another can't make it to the home of magic and fun (WDW). It provides a way out for DVC members from taking a total loss on their investments if they can't use up there allotted points in their use year. They can rent or transfer points to another party. They can't sell their membership at this site. That is at another site for timeshares. Debs site at allearsnet.com gets into detail on DVC. So if you are a disney resort lover check it out under accomodations!!! Good Luck!!! :sunny: :cool1: :sunny:

The points requirement would depend on the size of the accommdations you wanted, and at which DVC resort.

Studios can have up to 4 people and 1 child under 3. For one studio the point requirement would be between 102-127 (depending on where you stay).

1-BR can have up to 4 people and 1 child under 3. Required points would be 204-258.

2-BR can have up to 8 people, required points would be 275-323.

Grand Villa can have up to 12 and range from 461-708 pts. (Only available at OKW, SSR, or BWV)

So, you technically could get 2 studios that would accommodate all 8 for as little as 204 points at OKW, but it wouldn't guarantee that the 2 studios would be in the same building (or area).

You might want to know also that studios do not have a full kitchen or a washer and dryer. You can have a wonderful time all together in a two bedroom, have a full kitchen (stove, micro, refrig, toaster, dishes, pans, etc), washer and dryer for a few more points than you can get two studios. Depending on where you stay. OKW is the cheapest and then SSR. We own at SSR and we love it, but you will find that most everyone loves where they own. Good Luck and check out the rent/trade board.

Just click on "DVC POint Charts" at the very top of this page and you will be able to calculate for yourself how many points you will need.

Don't feel left out, because anyone who is not familiar with the DVC system does not know these answers. We have just joined Last March and had many of the same questions about how many points does it take to do ????? Anyway on your visit I would like to offer you the suggestion to visit one of the DVC Kiosks that you will see set up in several locations, because my wife and I avoided them like the plague and I can honestly tell you that they live up to their slogan of " The Best Kept Secret"!!! :confused3 There are no high pressure sales and it is not timeshare as you know it. If you would like to plan on a visit to WDW with some frequency, I would highly recommend talking with these people. Because we have said the same thing that we have seen here many, many times, "I only wish I had known about this years ago"!!! Hope you all have an enjoyable vacation!!!!

I'm looking forward to our next trip home with all these new info. Thanks everyone.

This is the board that disney vacation club owners usually use....but you can still rent a Villa from Disney itself...which if you are traveling with 8 people would be more worth the money....You can call Disney at 407-934-7639 to make a resie at any of the hotels onsite...with 8 people you will be directed to rent a Villa..(these are part of the vacation club, but if they have the availability you can reserve as a none dvc member)..a two bedroom sleeps 8 plus one child under 3.....

I wish you many happy memories, and may all your dreams come true!

But everyone's welcome! We're not a snooty bunch.

You should check both options and see which works out best for you. You can rent through CRO, or you can go to the DVC Rent/Trade Board and rent from an owner.

Points for DVC accommodations are roughly double on Friday and Saturday nights, compared to Sunday-Thursday. Disney's cash rates are generally the same, regardless of day of the week. So you'd have to compare both options and see which is cheaper. Bear in mind that you can do as many DVC owners do -- pay cash for Friday/Saturday and points for Sunday-Thursday. The reservations can be linked so you don't have to move, or you could do Fri-Sat somewhere for cash and DVC for Sun-Thurs. There are lots of options.

When you go to the Rent/Trade Board, start there by reading the FAQ and "A Word to the Wise."

Good luck.
