In my opinion it doesn't negate the issue but does make me wonder what they think they are accomplishing by exaggerating? How honest and truthful are any of their other statements? It doesn't help their argument in a positive way. That said, even if the numbers are exaggerated, which I won’t argue, it doesn’t negate the overall point.
Why do they have so little faith in their argument that they feel a need to exaggerate and include so many shootings that don't fit the definition I believe most people have for a school shooting?
A shooting that occurs in or on a school/college campus while students are present, directed at or committed by a student or faculty member.
Why include gang violence, fights, and domestic disturbances that happen to occur on a school or college campus no matter the time of day or if no students are present at the time?
Why include accidental discharges at all?
Edited to add:
I believe it does include the examples posted by DisneyJamieCA
Some examples that I found included -- someone shot out the windows of an abandoned building that had previously housed a school = school shooting. -- A middle-of-the-night drug deal taking place in a school parking lot went bad and shots were fired = school shooting -- A school resource offer accidentally discharged his weapon into the floor = school shooting.)
Each of those examples meets the criteria you listed to be counted as a school shooting.
