Well, my daughter would have no idea who is doing this stuff because she REFUSES to use the bathroom at school. She will hold it all day, every day, no exceptions. Oddly enough, 13 years ago when my stepdaughter spent her junior year with us, she also refused to use the bathroom at school. It's crazy, but bad things happen in the bathrooms and if you don't want to be affected by it, you don't go in there. At the same middle school, they stole a urinal and took out some of the partitions around toilets. How the heck did they do that without anyone or cameras seeing them??? I also don't understand why the students aren't saying more about who is responsible. If I had to either 1. Go in a portapotty, 2. Haul across the entire school to go to the one open bathroom that is now watched, or 3. Had to do my private business out in the open because some idiot removed the partition-and I knew who did it-I would out that person in a heart beat.
. And for the people that think this is just the school's problem-July will prove otherwise.
I agree that destroying and property are not acceptable and need to be punished. I was more commenting on the general pearl clutching.

I think social media affects American kids more than Canadians. We are a nation with 350 million people. You are from a country with 30 million. We have more idiot kids in our nation, period.
This type of attitude is exactly was why our streets are no longer safe and crime is rampant. Respect is learned early in life by respecting your teachers. Hitting anyone in school or doing damage to others property is a crime not something that merits an LOL attitude.
Part of the attitude is that the other countries don’t deal with half the negative stuff we have to in American schools.
LOL at this hysteria. Just because it’s on tik tok doesn’t mean this is happening to every school in the nation. And having a police officer go classroom by classroom? I’m hoping that was fake outrage.
Everyone needs to relax, take a deep breath, and think about what your parents freaked out about that was totally not a threat like they thought it was.
Without getting into politics, school shootings. Canada and the US have very different laws on weapons and unfortunately we see the horrors of it. Kids deal with that fear more now than even a decade ago.I don’t want points, so I’ll just say I agree.
If you had seen my follow up post, I said damage and assault needed to be punished.
Like what?
Absolutely. Active shooter drills are added to earthquake & fire drills. And just today my kids had a bomb threat at their high school today. Thankfully it ended up being a hoax, but it was a stressful & scary day.Without getting into politics, school shootings. Send the bill to the parents for clean up and replacing the sink, toilet, etc. due to their child's destructive behavior. Maybe that would get the parents' attention.
I actually warned a teacher NOT to retaliate today. I know her well, and she might!
If you smack a kid back, you're going to be charged criminally.
If it happens (and I hope it doesn't!), I would absolutely sue.If you get assaulted by a kid, hit the parents where it hurts - sue 'em. Even if they don't have a dime, they'll lose a lot of work time for required court appearances and have all other kinds of legal hassles. Ambulance chasing attorneys can find all kinds of liability gotchas and ways to make their life utterly miserable. Publicly shame the kid everywhere you can across all social platforms - their friends may think they're cool, but many people won't and they'll get LOTS of hate messages - not a pleasant thing for anyone.
These aren't "children" - they're lowlifes and don't deserve kid gloves or special treatment. Sorry. Not sorry. Teachers are heroes to me. They shouldn't have to put up with this crap.
We got a similar letter. As well as a facebook post from the county Sheriff's office. We just got a letter today from the School District stating that the were talking to all the MS and HS kids in advisory about this one, and discussing how to respect school property, and what happens when they don't. They asked parents to have discussions with their kids about this behavior and to avoid it.
Two likely parental reactions.
1. Not MY child!!! My Johnny Angel would NEVER do such a thing!!!
2. What’s the big deal? Kids are just trying to have a little fun. You’re stifling their creativity.
And hopefully they’d be quickly acquitted by a rational jury. That is, if it even gets that far.
A prosecutor won’t look good taking such a case to trial.
I hope the girls don’t start doing it to each other, and that the same standards of punishment apply to them if they do. Lest we forget, girls can be total jack-asses too. I am SO GLAD my days of contending with this kind of nonsense are behind us.For the one about jabbing girls' breasts, that's a serious sexual assault charge right there....and there's likely to be far less leniency in today's highly charged environment. Hope the girls and their parents all press charges.
While it’s a horrible trend this kind of stuff has been happening in schools forever, except the victims are usually the students. I guess now that the targets are teachers and school property the schools are going to get serious about making sure there are real consequences.
I don’t want to see any teacher get assaulted and I think consequences should be severe for any student who commits an act, but I’ll save my outrage for the kids who bully and assault other students with minimal consequences because the schools don’t get as serous about it as they seem to be over this trend.
Disclaimer- I am speaking about my own school district and experience with it so you don’t need respond to tell me how that isn’t how it is at your schools.
This is my town! What is with these kids? My parents would've killed me over these stunts.
I figure some of these “challenges” lead to bullying of those who don’t participate.
