New Ticket Upgrade Policy?

This really stinks if it's true. We only do 6 day tickets. I recently purchased the 3+2 from Orbitz, planning to add the 6th day during the trip as we've done in the past. This will change things for sure. I guess that if this is all correct, we will have a rest day at the beginning of our trip. No parks=no money spent. Will be watching this for sure.

I just got back yesterday from a stay 2/24-3/1. We added a day to our disney purchased package tickets and they charged me 106.00! When I had asked the week before they told me it would be 40.00 to add that extra day! When I enquired, they said that there had been a price increase and that's why it was so much more...seems a little weird to me.

Did you use them at least once prior to upgrading?

Subscribing to the thread. I'm interested to find out if these rumors are true as I generally purchase tickets from UT.

Nope did it at check in.

Would the "use them once" even matter since they were purchased from Disney? I thought that was only to get the bridged price from resale tickets.

Sounds like the price increase is to blame for the higher cost. Or would you be able to bridge old price to new price (Disney to Disney sale)

It has always worked in the past, though not sure if this new info has also affected their own ticket upgrades. I guess we'll have to wait and see once more reports come in.

I don't mind if they don't price bridge anymore, but continue to let me upgrade, and from the price that I paid for the ticket...... not from the price the wholesaler paid for the ticket.

Yeah I agree with this. I would like the bridge, but if they do not go start from what I paid we will not be upgrading to an AP. They will be losing our money for that for sure.

honestly, I wonder how many people actually know about price bridging at all. Or how many people have any idea about upgrading their tickets, etc. The DIS is only a small fraction of the people that go to Disney. Just closing a loophole for those in "the know". I.E. the loyal fanatics. :(

I thought that when you purchase your tickets as part of a package then you are paying less than gate price for them. If that is the case, then yes you still need to price bridge to get the cheaper upgrade price.

I would think a large percent of DVC members are aware of discount tickets. So they may be disenfranchising their DVC members even more than they already have.

For me it will mean buying what I think we will use (days, options) from discounters and deal with it.

I don't think package tickets are usually discounted...unless they are running some sort of special.

I will say I am gonna be super bummed if we can't upgrade DH's 6 day PH, WP&M with NE to an AP. Yes, bridging would also be nice but we really need an AP for him and have zero interest in going to a water park.

When you book a package through Disney, your tickets are purchased at the package rate for the day you booked them. Meaning if you booked a package the day before the ticket increase, and don't alter your package before you arrive, you are able to keep the lower ticket price. If you alter your package (for example adding the free dining discount), prior to arrival, they will charge the new ticket prices. In the past, as long as you used the package tickets at least once, you could upgrade your ticket from the new price of the type of ticket you bought to the new price of the type of ticket you want.

Unless the tickets are part of a promotion that includes slightly discounted tickets (like S,P,D) I thought they were full price?

I could be wrong, we have been AP holders since 2012 so I haven't bought tickets or a package in awhile.

Yes. This is the case.

It is why you need to use the Pkg. tickets before upgrading,
and why WDW PACKAGE tickets could be price-bridged and
why WDW GATE tickets would NOT be price-bridged.

It's to get the *current* gate price. Tickets not at the current gate price are tickets bought from authorized resellers AND tickets purchased prior to a price increase.

FYI, Disney considers Disney Store a reseller, along with Walt Disney Travel Company--where you purchase a package from. True Disney tickets are sold either online, via phone, or at the gate (provided they are not connected to a Disney package of any sort).

Sorry, but the above information is incorrect.
Tickets are "sold" (internally) to the resort package "department" (Walt Disney Travel Co.) at a discount.
