If I book with this code, and later decide to make it a package, how far in advance of my arrival date do I have to make the change? I am assuming 3 days, since that is the cut-off for adding the dining plan. But I would like to know for sure. Thanks!

AFAIK WDTC packages have to be booked 2 days in advance.
Keep in mind you will need to book a package, and then cancel your room only booking. And you will be refunded the money on your RO booking. Unless something changes, any money paid cannot be transferred from RO to a package.
If you know you want a package, it is just much easier to book it up front, rather than a RO res.

Agreed. A few years ago, I didn't know this and wanted to add a pkg to my ressie. I had to rebook and the hotel I wanted wasn't available anymore. They told me to keep calling back, and someone must have cancelled, so I got lucky, but now I just always book a package right away.

Why not just book as a package to begin with? If the code has expired before you arrive, or no rooms with the discount are available anymore, re-booking as a package is a major undertaking.

I would like to book a FD pkg, possibly for Feb. the problem I am having is that pkgs have to be paid 45 days out, and we wont get DH's bonus until after then. I may have to book FD for Sept. I really would rather go early in the year, so I thought this would solve my problem, but I guess it won't work. Any other ideas?

I want to use the % discount, and add dining/tickets later, since I know I can't book FD. That way I would pay in full the day I changed my room only to a pkg., which would be AFTER the 45 day mark.

You really shouldn't have any problem doing this. You should be able to add tickets and the DP after the 45 day mark, since room only can be changed within 5 days without penalty. Yes, they have to rebook as a package with the discount applied to the room portion, and you will have to pay the package in full, including whatever deposit you placed on the room only reservation. The room only deposit will be refunded separately.

If the CM won't apply the discount to the room portion of the package, because it's expired, ask for a Guest Services manager. They can do it for you.

I would have been able to do it on a room onjly discount, even after the discount had expired. In fact, the CM kept trying to convince me to do it, up to about 10 days before arrival! But I don't like the DP, so it was a no go for me.

I changed resorts (room only to room only, though), after my discount had expired, and the CM had no problem applying the same discount to the new reservation.

It's possible, and no one will refuse to do it. It is time consuming though. Not something you can call about when you're 5 minutes away from work. In fact, the CM should want to do it for you.

That is what I thought, but I am really glad to hear that it has worked for others!
