Here in the world now, and have am using FP+ and MB, even though I originally swore not to, because of everything I had read.
First- an answer to a previous question- my parents both have DVC annual passes, and our magic bands (not requested by us) were given to us upon arrival at the beach club villas. They were able to link their DVC annual passes to their MB's without a problem.
As for the rest of it.... I am glad I knew about the issues ahead of time, was prepared to have things go wrong, and had backups for both my room key/charging and my park pass (annual pass, paper ticket).
So here's how my experience has gone so far:
Checked in, was surprised they had bands ready as we hadn't requested them, but it seems to be pretty standard now. They were set up with room key only, and we were given traditional RFID room key cards as well. I added a credit card/pin number for charging. The bands worked great for both. No problems.
I was still resolved not to link my annual pass to the tickets. Went to MK, used my paper annual pass to enter (mid-day)- no problem. Pulled traditional past passes, but saw how the FP+ ws working, and thought I might give it a try.
Next morning, I resolved to figure out FP+ later in the day while my kids were napping. Went to MK for EMH via transportation center. Was stopped heading to ferry to MK, when asked if I had paper tickets. They made us go to ticket counter to change out paper annual passes for plastic RFID ones. CM told me I could not enter MK with paper ticket, and was unmoved when I told her I had done it the day before. Went to ticket window- thank good was no line, and changed passes. Took about 15 minutes to change all 6 or our tickets. Made us miss the MK opening show, but, oh well.
That afternoon, back at the resort, I go into
MDE and link our tickets to each member of my family. But I still don't see FP+. I go to DVC concierge, and he helps me link my room reservation. Great, now I see FP+. I go back to my room and try to make FP+ reservations for the next day. But I can't make them for my daughter or DH because it says they don't have a ticker linked. I notice that I have two entries in MDE for them. When I entered them into MDe before the trip I used their nicknames, which is what I linked their tickets to- but their bands were linked to their full names on the reservation - so their bands and reservations were not linked. This was a PAIN!!! DVC concierge said he couldn't fix it, and that I should call help desk. Called the MDE help desk, and after 45 minutes and two different people (one of whom told me the concierge should be able to fix it), finally got someone who understood my problem, and could fix it. He told me he would fix it for me, I hung up and took a nap. When I got up it all worked.
All was good for me, DD's and DH, but my parents couldn't access the reservation number (we are on the same reservation), because I had already used it. That meant that their tickets were Also not linked to their bands.
Basically the same issue, so the next day we all walked down to the concierge am hour before we wanted to leave for the park, and spent 45 minutes with the concierge on the phone with the help desk. We were prepared for it to take a while, and it did. Luckily it was not crowded, or it easily could have taken more than an hour.
From that point on things have worked well. My advice would be to make sure you link your reservation in MDE BEFORE you link your tickets.
And to make sure that the person you are linking the ticker with, shows that they have a magic band.
This may be a case of me knowing just enough to really mess things up while I was trying to fix them.
I find the MDE FP+ section very clunky. I have been able to do what I want, but I can only make one change at a time, and then have to go all the way back to the main FP+ menu. It has definitely taken Some getting used to, and it is not particularly user friendly. Also, the "my plans" section of MDE shows FP+'s that I have already changed or deleted, and doesn't show others at all.
I have enjoyed using the FP+, as it let us get on toy story this evening without getting there at rope-drop, and got us the best seats I have ever had for the Beluty and the Beast stage show. It was worth the hassle for me, because I always knew I could go back to my old system if the a failed. I only fooled around with getting it working because I had the time and wanted to. I definitely saw other people VERY frustrated at the concierge desk.
Hope this helps our those headed here soon!
