New "Mom's to Be" Thread!

THey pry won't do an U/s until the standard 20 weeks.... sigh..... Its hard to believe a little baby is inside me. I need PROOF! (Besides mood swings and irritability)

My Dr. does them in the office at your first visit, I think mainly to check for an accurate date. I had that at almost 10 weeks. Then when I went back at 14 weeks, she still couldn't get it on the doppler and did another u/s. I know what you mean about needing proof! You could always shop around OB/GYN's and see who does them, LOL.

I completly understand. Even now there are times where I'll rub my belly to make sure he is still in there if he is being quiet.

I had my u/s's at 7, 12 and 19 wks. My Dr appt. after my 12wk u/s we were able to hear the hb with the doppler. I guess every Dr. is different. My Sister is pregnant as well and she had an u/s at 8wks to confirm then at 14wks because they could not hear the hp in the Dr's office.

Cute pictures Denise! I am jealous, I would love to be able to go outside with a stroller like that :teeth:

My doctor office does 2 ultrasounds as standard, but some only do one (insurance sometimes only covers that one). My office does the first between 8-12 weeks for dating purposes and to make sure all is okay and then the standard at about 20 weeks. I had one at 6, 8, 19 and 25 weeks. I was more paranoid so they did them early for me. They usually only do that many for "higher risk" ladies (35+ and previous miscarriage issues). My doctor actually offered to do another one at 10 weeks but I declined.
I saw the heartbeating at the first two and heard it on the dopplar at 13 weeks and then heard it every time I went in. If you got really worried, you could schedule an appt with the NP to listen to it at any time you like. They offered to let my DH come in to listen, but I ran out of time before I gave birth :p

Maybe I should fib a little to the Doctor to get an early U/S...

Tell him you have NO IDEA when your LMP was. :) :rotfl:

The equipment at my Dr's offices isn't nearly as good as what they have at the U/S places. They don't do the "real" ones in their office, and I don't think they charge for the ones they do in office, either. So, it's not a big deal to get several during the pregnancy. I think I had at least 5 in office- one was just because I had the kids with me, one was recently to make sure he was head down.

Its been awhile...do any of you remember when you can first hear the heartbeat with the doppler thing at the Doctor's office??? I'm 8 weeks..is that too early ??? Thanks!:flower3:

It's funny how you go though pregnancy a couple times and you forget. :confused3 I was thinking the same thing.

I had 4 u/s with both of our kids. Luckily my OB has an u/s in the office so she is happy to wheel it in.

Hi everyone... I just found this thread as I was looking around for Disney and pregnancy related stuff. I'll be 25 weeks pregnant (with a girl!!) when we go to Disney this February. I'm wondering if any of you have had any luck with protein bars or granola bars to keep up your stamina. If I don't eat all the time at this point I get all light headed and faint feeling and I'm afraid I'm going to ruin the trip for the rest of my family if I have to stop and find food every half hour, plus I know it's super expensive in the World! Any advice for a nervous mom?
Thanks,
Summer

Hiya girls!

Did ya hear about the extra tax money coming through in May?

$600 per single person, $1200 per couple, and $300 per child!! :cool1: :woohoo: :cheer2:

Hubby and I are looking at $1500! That along with a nearly a $3000 income tax refund will be such a blessing! :cloud9:

Hey girls! I juat found the thread and thought I would check in, since I don't get to post that often. The twins are growing so fast! Sam has really started smiling and he loves to "watch" TV. He likes Rachel Ray, believe it or not. He gets really quiet when she talks! Zoe is just content to be the little diva princess, and is much mellower than her brother! Sam just gets frustrated because he seems to want to do move and go, but his body won't let him yet since he is just a baby. I can't believe they will be 12 weeks on Sunday! They are taking a bottle at 830 and are only waking once around 2- 230 at night, then they are good till about 630-7. I am tickled, considering that they were preemies!

Tink, how are you doing with your pregnancy? Are the babies doing good? I meant to ask if you are going to find out the sexes or be surprised?

All of the new babies are adorable!!! I will try and load up some current pics of the twins soon!

I've been to WDW 6.5 months pregnant and my experience was drink a lot of water and nibble all the time. Granola and protein bars are a great snack. Also try small bags of mixed nuts and dried fruits. The security guards have never questioned me when I bring in food.

Take advantage of those riding the rides without you and find a comfortable bench or chair and put your feet up. Smile, listen to the music, and people watch (some real wackos out there).:rotfl2:

While you are there check out the baby stations at all 4 parks. You will need them in the future and they are also a good place to rest if the weather isn't to your liking.

If time is on your side, think about getting an early start to your day and going back to your room for a quick nap. Then head back out in the late afternoon. The break will really help with swollen ankles and the end of the day heavy feeling.

Finally don't worry about your family. Explain to them the same thing you said above and do what you need to do. It's your vacation too and running around trying to keep up may be too much for you.

I am doing well. I finally stopped vomiting this week, we'll see if it lasts! Before that it was upwards of 8 times/day! I have gained about 3 pounds total, which is at least better than losing like I was doing. If I haven't gained enough at my next appointment (18.5 weeks) then they'll make me drink supplmenet shakes, but I'm at least headed the right direction.

It's so nerve-wracking to me that they repeatedly remind me you can't accurately distinguish more than one heartbeat with a doppler, yet refuse to do extra scans until later. We have our Level II on 2/19, though, and I absolutely cannot WAIT to see these babies again. If I see two, viable, moderately healthy looking babes after not having seen them for months, I'll be thrilled. :) But yes, we are hoping to find out the sexes! We swore we wouldn't ever, but that was when we assumed we were having one at a time! ;)

Post more pictures of your two when you get a chance! I'm glad to hear they are doing so well! Were you on bedrest at all?

Yes, I was on bedrest for the last two weeks I was pregnant. BP started to creep up, I was basically being monitored for pre-eclampsia. I was borderline everything for my pregnancy it seems. Felt great most of the pregnancy, was borderline gestational diabetes, then borderline pre-e, sent to the hospital due to high protien levels, then ended up delivering at 33 weeks, 5 days while I was in the hospital. Don't get me wrong, twin pregnancy for me went really great, but the last two weks were rough, and I din't make it full term.

BTW, the wait was a bit rought from the first time I saw the babies at like 7 weeks until I saw them again at 12. We had an ultrasound to confirm pregnancy with our fertility clinic (7 wks) and the next day I called my OB to make my first appt with them, and they made me wait til 12 weeks. at 12 wks, Dr. did an U/S only because it was my first preggo appt with them. After that though, we got to see the babies every month at the perinatologist. in other words, I had two appts a month. one with the OB, one with the peri.

Yeah, it's stories like yours (and every other twin mom I have EVER talked to or read about) that make me a nervous wreck! I have very highly recommended OB, and yet they are not doing ANYTHING different until at least 24 weeks. We had the u/s to confirm (and "count heads"!) at the RE at just over 6 weeks, then another to confirm that both twins were still there, growing appropriately etc at 8.5 weeks before graduating to the OB. There, they have done NOTHING for me, even after having difficulty hearing one heartbeat at least every other time (one is behind the other, still, as far as I know). It's so frustrating! So we'll be going from 8 weeks to just about 20 without so much as having confirmation that both are growing appropriately. The OBs seem to take complete consolation in the fact that my uterus is 3, 4 and then 5 weeks ahead (despite little to no weight gain). I'm sure that does count for something, but they are certainly making my pregnancy MORE stressful than it would be already, instead of less!

ETA: We tried seeing a peri as well, just for some more proactive following since it was so tough getting this far that we don't want anything to happen now (not that anyone ever does!). Unfortunately, becuase DH and I are both young and I have no significant medical anything (we just had azoospermia, I checked out fine) they won't see me. I suppos that should be comforting as well, but it's not! ;)

Sometimes I wonder if I can read at all. I've been looking for this thread and even searched and couldn't find it and then I started my own thread asking if there was a new mom's thread and it's been here right under my nose all day.

Anyways, can I join you guys? My daughter was 8 weeks old yesterday.

Hi ashjohnson! Congratulations on your beautiful little girl! You can certainly join us, but the majority of us are "mommies to be" (still waiting for our first, or newest little ones to arrive). There are some new moms that hang around here still though, that might know if a New Mommies thread got restarted. :goodvibes

See I told you I can't read! :headache: I would just say that this is just mommy brain, but to be honest with you I was kind of like this before.

Okay, please ignore me now. :rotfl:

I can't believe that you weren't automatically sent to the peri. I am 34, and the twins are IVF babies, but none of those things made me high risk. The OB sent me to the peri based on the fact that it was a twin pregnancy...they send all twin pregnancies to the peri at my OB as far as I know... anyway, you know anytime you need to talk or ask anything, I will do my best to help you out!!!

I appreciate it! This practice does a lot of multiples (even HOM) so they (and my RE) trust that I guess.... Who knows. Even the Peris around here scoff thinking multiples (esp twins) aren't that big a deal. We have a HUGE maternal-fetal medicine presence in Cincinnati though, including one of the first fetal surgery centers, etc. I guess, in that regard, I'm small potatoes. Too bad I don't feel the same way, since these are MY babies! :rotfl:

Thank you SO much for reassuring me :) I think I'll pack a couple boxes of protein bars and stuff for the trip down there... it's been so long since I had my last baby I guess I kind of forgot how exhausting this whole pregnancy thing is!!
