New "Mom's to Be" Thread!

Thanks for the welcome. It's interesting to see how other pregnant women are doing and what they are experiencing. With this being our first, everything is so new, exciting and scary. But, aside from the first 15 weeks, pregnancy has been wonderful. However, I know that the last few weeks will be difficult. I'm having round ligament pain at night. It seems to hit when I'm switching positions. But, I guess I need to get used to the lack of sleep right?

The most exciting thing is feeling Isabelle outside my tummy. I guess she's doing her kickboxing routine because she can get my tummy to poke out a good bit. Most of the time I'm at work when she starts up and I have to just stop what I'm doing to feel her. It's wonderful.

Welcome, kappyfinn!!! And Freyja, it's good to see you posting again!!!

Ok, so here's a question to keep the thread going.....

If working, how long do you plan on taking off/did you take off? How long will your dh be able to take off to stay home?

I wasn't working with the first two, but I'm on maternity leave as of 37w2d, and quite honesly have no plans of going back.

Now, the dh part is what I'm nervous about! DH took off 2 weeks with DD, and then a full MONTH off with DS. We planned and took 3 big vacations last year, because we didn't want to cancel anything due to the pregnancy. So, DH is fairly low on vacation. He gets 1 week paternity leave, plus he'll take a couple extra days if I have baby mid-week, but then that's it! :scared1: His schedule is somewhat flexible, so hopefully he'll at least be taking the 2 big kids to school for me for a couple weeks after returning to work.

I have always planned to stay home, but currently make about 60% of our income while DH is finishing residency. We'll see, but the goal is to try and stay home, or home as much as possible. Thankfully there are ALWAYS flexible jobs available in nursing, so - while I have a good, cushy, important job now that I'm truly blessed to have - I will NOT be doing what I am currently doing!

DH, on the other hand, will be lucky to be at the freaking hospital with me long after. Don't get me started on the life of a resident's wife! :rotfl:

I was wondering what happened to the other thread. If we are unable to get the old word list of due dates back, then we may have to give our due dates/gender (if we know it) again and just redo the list. Hopefully it won't come to that but if it does then we'll make do.

Anyway, I am 18 weeks today. I had an appt. and all is well. I still am down 4 lbs from where I started pre-pregnancy which is no big deal. It was an uneventful appt. I can't wait till my "big" u/s which is Feb. 8. Only 2 more weeks to go!

I'm being told the threads will most certainly come back, at least for some time. Otherwise, it wouldn't be a big deal at all to retype it.

I am taking off 12 weeks. Or at least, that is my plan that I have worked out with my job. I might gradually work my way back around 10 weeks, but as for now, it's 12 weeks off and I'm sticking too it. DH will be off the first week with me. My mom will come out for the 2nd week. I'm thinking I'll be ready for some alone time around week 3, but who knows what I'll really feel like. I hear the 3rd week is difficult. I'm also going to gradually start Isabelle with her "educational childcare" (creative huh?). I think it'll be easier on the both of us if I can transition her in while I'm still off work.

DH, on the other hand, will be lucky to be at the freaking hospital with me long after. Don't get me started on the life of a resident's wife! :rotfl:

Well, that will be an adventure, that's for sure! ;) Are you delivering at the same place he works?

Hi everyone!!

I thought that I would introduce myself. My name is Jamie and I'm almost 9 weeks pregnant with my first child. My husband and I are very excited but all very scared. I hope that I can join you all and have someone in a similar position to talk to.

Jamie

Ohhh, absolutely not! :rotfl: No, I suppose I could end up there. He is in a double board program, so works equally at 2 hospitals. One is Children's, so no luck there (although I wouldn't mind -- great hospital). The other is a major academic institution that, while the medicine is phenomenal and it's a regional center for a lot of things, I won't go there unless I NEED wonderful medical attention (with serious complications, etc) -- which we obviously aren't hoping for. It's a great hospital, but definitely is more.... urban than I prefer. And the nursing is notoriously bad, which I'm sure is important when I'm stuck there a few days!

I'm exaggerating a bit, although sadly not much. If I plan the c/s on Friday, he'll have the weekend. He's on a nice elective, outpatient rotation in June, so the circumstances are MUCH better than they could be. One of his peers was back to the ICU the day immediately after his wife gave birth (about 10 hours later). I would kill my husband. :rotfl:

Kyle will likely have to go back on the following Monday, but thankfully, depending on who he is working with, will be able to work very short days, and maybe not all of them. We'll just have to play it by ear. Unfortunately, they don't really get sick days or paternity leave at all -- and their vacation is set too far in advance (we're set through July), so that can't change either.

We'll make due! Thankfully, my family is close, and I know he will do whatever he can (make up work on weekends, etc) to be there as much as possible.

Nice to have a new place at least for a while. I had to come in and share these two of Dom that I took today after his bath

Hey everyone!

Welcome newcomers!

Elaine, Dom is so cute.

I am tired of being pregnant. I am very uncomfortable all the time. I am now 34 weeks and ready for him to be here. I had an appointment Monday and things look good. We had another ultrasound and they changed my due date from March 6 to Feb 22. I don't know if my doctors will go along with that new date though. I have another appointment Tuesday, so I guess we will discuss it then.

Sneaking back on here while I have 2 minutes to myself...

Happy 1 week birthday, Amanda Joy!

I just quit my temp job last week and this week I started my independent contractor work again and made more in 1 week then I did in 2 weeks at my previous job :D

Although I'm not technically employed, I'm going to start back up probably in mid late March. My mom has a lot of vacation so she is going to come down for a couple of weeks and watch the baby while I go to work. DH is also going to stay home 1 morning a week so I can go in and then in the summer my 15 yr old sister is going to stay with us a watch the baby so I can go in to do some work. I do have to find a job for September, but it looks like the district I "work" for is interested in hiring me. So along with that, I need to find daycare/put our names on the exceedingly long waiting list, get a heavy duty pump and figure out the bottle stuff.

My husband is going to take a couple of days off after the birth, but not much after that. He has to use his vacation and personal days and with both he has 4 weeks total (saved 1 from last year), but we need to save them since we are going to stay in PA and will have to travel often to see family.

Welcome to the new ladies!!! It seems like the pregnancy just flies by (or at least it has for me)

Elaine- Those pictures of Dom are so cute. I love that hair!

Holly- Amanda is beautiful. Is her jaundice gone yet?

Amy- Are they still talking about inducing you or is everything good now?

Is anyone else having trouble sleeping? It seems I am up all night (sporadically), I can't get comfortable, get so hungry and find myself watching On Demand Free Movies at 4am. Today was "Look who's talking too" and now I'm onto the dog show on Animal Planet.

I like this new thread...short and quicker to load...I need to bookmark it!

For the most part, I feel like time as flown too. It seems like just yesterday we found out and now I am 34 weeks.

I have a terrible time sleeping, though some days are better than others. I wake up and can't get back to sleep. It is so uncomfortable to lay down (no matter how many pillows I use) and I end up in the recliner.

Holly, Amanda is just precious. Such beautiful babies around here.

I love seeing all the baby pictures :cloud9:. It's so cute watching them get bigger and more alert.

I've been sleeping fine until I have to change positions. Then I get that nasty ligament pain and it takes forever to fall back asleep :headache:. I usually get about 7 hours a night though so I really can't complain.

I went shopping yesterday and I feel a lot more ready in case the baby comes early. The only thing I'm missing are crib sheets, diapers, and a diaper bag :cool1:

I'm also ready for the baby to be born already but I don't think it'll be happening soon. My contractions have stopped and the baby is still really high. At least there's a full moon on my due date so hopefully he won't be overdue!

Thanks :) We think so too. Funny thing is, she looks huge in all her pictures, but she's still so very tiny! Her color is MUCH better now, and her numbers were falling. She goes back to the doctor on Monday for her PKU shot, and they will probably do another bili test then. We called and had the bili bed picked up as well! Whooo Hooo! :cool1:

That's wonderful! She does look big in pictures, but that's because it's a closeup of those beautiful chubby cheeks.

What a peaceful picture... how sweet! :goodvibes:
you took the words right out of my mouth. She is abslutely precious!!!!

Glad you liked the pictures. It is hard to believe he is 8 weeks old now!! I have no idea how big he is, but he was 10 pounds 3 weeks ago. He grows fast ;) In a week we'll have a doc appt and I'll find out t hen how big he is.

Welcome to the new mom's to be on the thread! I am glad you found us!!!

I remember having such trouble sleeping in the end. Some of it was anxiety and some of it was me getting up many times to go to the bathroom :teeth:

Hi ladies! I found you again!!! :)

So we broke the news to the whole family so our secret is out of the bag. Thank goodness, I couldn't keep it in much longer.

With DD, I took off 16 weeks, with DS, I took off 14 weeks. I don't think I want to go back after this one, but I have yet to tell my husband that. Luckily he just got a big promotion with a nice raise..... I think I'll wait to spring that one on him.

PS - I had a dream last night it is a girl!

I'm sure it feels great to have your secret out! Now sit back, and let everyone spoil you :) Once the baby comes, you get no more attention!

Cool about the dream! With all three of my girls, I dreamt I was having a girl! :)
