New Fort Wilderness Decals....

I've been talking to Moto about this already, and we can design it so that the graphics bleed past the cut line (which I'd provide) so there would be no white edge around the images. I wouldn't think the heat absorbtion of the walls would make a lot of difference... the top, yes, the walls? I'm thinking not much difference at all. But it would look HOT! LOL. I just think the teal flames are gonna look LAME! Might as well be peach, or salmon! HA! I'd do black sidewalls with lime flames like the cart. JMO

BTW, I have the graphics about 40% redrawn. Should be done by tomorrow.

BLACK IT IS!!!!! And as mentioned before....it will look odd with black sidewalls and a white top....so the roof is getting black paint as well, BUT in a few weeks Im gonna have to hit motofamily up for some large green flames for the roof top........I figure a black roof covered with green flames will be less heat absorbent than straight black. Thanks Shan....you just talked me into spending more money that I dont have!!!! My ol'lady's gonna kick my butt!!!

Maybe this will make ya feel better! Christmas has come early:

Don't know why PhotoBucket washed out the lime, but it will be right when printed.

It's done, unless you have some changes you'd like

:santa:

OMG...thats PERFECT!!! I may want to add a second color into the flames....but thats much better than I imagined!!!!!

This should be better:

EDIT: Ah, yes, MUCH!

Haha, he said peach and salmon....lol

Nope.....I was wrong...once I looked at it with a black background.....it doesnt need a bit of anything!!! AWESOME job Shan!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!

Shan.....were you up working on this all night?

Ok, looking at the edited version......before this gets submitted to motofamily, can I beg you to elongate the flames? the height( from the top of mickey's elbow to the lowest part of the circle) is going to be 20" and the total length will need to be just under 84"(from the tip of mickeys extended pinky to tip of the longest flame)....but I dont know what that works out to be on the computer screen. Do you think the circle can just be left as the lime green instead of fading to yellow?

I'm sure some folks are wondering why I redrew Rog's design... afterall mine is almost identical to his. Well, first, I tried very hard to replicate his design exactly (it is supposed to still look like his work, I'm not trying to redesign it) but mine is drawn using lines and fills rather that 'painted' with pixels. My version can be scaled to any size and never loose detail, whereas 'painted' graphics will look worse the bigger they get. This is an enlargement of the two versions, mine on the left and Rog's on the right (this is Manic Mickey's mouth):

So, since this was going to be blown up quite large I wanted Rog to have the best results possible. I can't wait to see the results!

Im not sure.....but I think yours may be a little sharper than mine!!!!!

Is this that VECTOR thing Ive heard you mention before?

And just to further demonstrate Shans superior-to-mine talents....I could never have "drawn" any of this....I snagged that Mickey off the net and erased the background(I didnt even do a good job erasing!!!) For him to look at that design and duplicate it from scratch is pheonomenal. You're a master, dude!

Lots to respond to. First, no, not all night. I worked on it while watching tv from the time the DIS went down until a little before 11pm, and then a bit of work on the flames this morning. And yes, mine is a vector drawing in Illustrator, versus a raster painting in Photoshop (or Gimp). Generally things like logos and technical illustrations are done in vector. Vector is not good for graphics with lots of texture, transparency or subtle shading (though it is much better at it today that it was several years ago), so it is not generally well suited to photorealistic work. And here is the revised graphic, with elongated flames and nixing the yellow:

Daaaaaaang, you're QUICK!!!! Thats it! Thats ME!!! Thats a wrap! Im so happy I could crap my pants right now!!!! Shan....I cant thank you enough for selflessly devoting so much time to this. I owe you big time....would you like one of my kids? I have extra!! If ever theres ANYTHING I can do...it would make me feel great to return the favor and help you out!

We do this all day every day its an art unto itself. SHANMAN seems to be on the ball and as I say to my guys GET IT DONE......

You guys are awesome at this. I am very impressed, and will pass along the information to others I know. My BIL does similar kind of work, so I'm guessing it's probably along the same line of work. The company he works for has done things like the new Coke bottles at Fenway Park in some sort of wrap. But it was this thread that just some of what is involved, and it looks pretty intensive.

yep!

I am sure you now see a little teeeny bit of the work that goes on behind the scenes for vinyl graphics, layered or printed...it is truly an art in itself.

For those of us who have no idea whats involved in the actual creation of a decal, only a general idea of what we would like a good decal to look like.....people like motofamily (and Jen) are GODS for having the ability to create 100% original custom work like this. I never have to worry about seeing someone with the same graphic as me. Not that I would have a problem at ALL if someone wanted to buy this decal from motofamily for their own personal use(Id actually feel flattered, but...for some reason......people NEVER want my weirdness on their own property).

I cant WAIT to get this decal.......Im still not COMPLETELY sure about painting the camper black....but I AM completely sure that the decalwill kick much booty on whatever color its on top of.

I've been following this thread and contributing where I can (I do printed and cut vinyl graphics for my company) but I have to put my two cents in about painting your camper black.

I wouldn't do it. You can't be sure what the camper's skin is going do when it heats up.

In the sun I can imagine that the skin will be hot enough to burn you and its most likley not designed for that kind of thermal expansion. Also it will cook your decal and it may start peeling.

Oh and thats one sick looling decal. :goodvibes (I'm not using "sick" in the cool way)

Ok, just cause I'm SUCH a geek, I thought I would share one more pic to help distinguish between vector and raster graphics. In vector graphics the lines and shapes that define the graphic are called the 'artwork', and when these are filled with colors, or gradients, or even images we get the 'composition'. This is the 'artwork' behind Rog's graphic:

VectorArt.png

Each of the lines in the artwork are mathematically defined, not by the artist but by the drawing program, and since they are defined by math they can be scaled to any conceivable size. I have used the same logo in both newspaper ads and billboards, for instance, where one prints at 1/2" across and the other at 5' using the same art and both print nice and crisp! Anyway, that's the graphic design lesson for the day... maybe next time we can talk about bleeds! Ohhh!
