Found out tonight when we went to renew oldest daughter's DAS that if you are an annual passholder your DAS is now good for 60 days . Also, you must keep your DAS card once it has been issued or another one will not be issued. We always kept our GAC making it easier to renew so keeping the DAS wasn't a question for us but I thought it was strange that if you had one issued and didn't bring it back to get an updated one that the CM said one would not be issued.

I have confirmation that it can be renewed for Annual Passholders at WDW for at least 60 days.

They are using the QR code/number on the card to reissue a new one when the old one expires (and they are keeping the expired one).
I'm not quite sure what they meant about not reissuing a new one if you don't bring back the old one? :confused3
Maybe what they meant was they could not reissue a new one and you would have to re-apply?

Hoping the CM miss spoke, as denying a DAS card to someone qualified and with an identified need under ADA would clearly not be compliant.

I think they would have to re-issue it, but they will most likely really give the third degree, as they should. Possessing two DAS cards at the same time would pose obvious problems with abuse.

I have my DAS from our Dec trip and since we'll be down for about 2 mos, the 60 days will work out great. Thank goodness I have the old one, I hope the renewal is fairly painless this time.

It is.
You tell them you want to renew and hand them the card. They compare the picture to the person, ask if anything has changed, thorn go to print the new card. My DD didn't even need a new picture.
Then you sign the new card and are on your way.

Thanks Sue that is a great relief. I do think the ability to book FP+ is great. It eliminates the need to walk to the ride and get a time, and will take a burden off my husband who gets the return times for me. I encourage everyone to utilize that system to save walking. Since the standby waits have been long, waiting for the rides using the DAS will be long as well.

We are unable to get to the parks early and the crush of rope drop would not be good for me to navigate. Sadly since our visit in December my vision has further deteriorated, but my walking is more stable than it was. Now if I could only get my dh to remember to warn me when there are curbs <sigh>.

Should my dd bring back her DAS that was issued last October or is this something new to the cards being issued now?

Definitely bring back her pass from Oct. otherwise you'll have to start the process all over again. See Sue's post above.

If she is an AP holder, apparently you'll need to bring it back. If you use regular tickets for your visits, it sounds like this might just be an AP thing (likely related to the 60-day expiration). But it's a good idea to bring back your previous expired DAS anyway to save time and questions.

I also agree with OurBigTrip that Disney is probably trying to prevent abuse/misuse by having a long-term DAS card in circulation. By requiring it be turned in to get a replacement, they hope to ensure it can't be shared or altered by someone else while the original DAS-holder simply requests a new one in a shorter time period. I'm sure there is a way to get another one issued if it's truly lost, but it likely will result in more questions than a simple "renewal" would. It is too bad abuse causes extra challenges for those who need it, but that seems to be the way of life today. :sad2:

I think it also helps to get a new one because of the photo. Goodness knows my guy looks different year to year. Factor in haircuts and missing teeth, well you get the picture. However, I am VERY happy about the 60 days as we purchased our first AP this year. It will definitely come in handy.

I posted this a few weeks ago with my trip report, but something I thought was interesting (and convenient) was WDW honored the original DAS we were issued in DLR four months prior. Meaning I did not have to start the process over and they just issued me a new one that was valid in WDW. It was very unexpected because I know the two resorts run on two different systems, but was very much appreciated.

We made our first transition from the GAC to the DAS last week at the Studios. The CM told us that we should bring our son's DAS back with us on our next visit and that they will scan the QR code on it and issue him a new one. He told us that the QR code will keep us from having to "explain" our son's needs all over again and that we'll quickly be on our way. We used to have our GACs issued for 3 month blocks (we are locals), so it will be interesting to see what they do on our next visit.
