We posted at the same time, so I missed your response to me. As you can see from my post, DTD was the only place I was considering using the car. I think you just help me make up my mind for sure with your post. Thanks for your help.

we just returned and I can tell you the boat service was great.....we never waited for more than 5 minutes for a boat. That being said we rented a car and used it to go to DTD, MGM, AK, Sea World. I don't like to wait long for transportation and am very glad we had the car for those places. Also I was talking to a couple of ladies while doing some laundry and they were at the bus stop on EE AK day at 7:00....every bus that came by was full and they did not get on a bus until 8:05....they were very disappointed that they basically missed all of EE at AK....my recommendation: take the car to DTD and AK and MGM. Good Luck!!

Rugratsmom.....so glad you had a safe return and it sounds like fun....can't wait to hear your reports.

Fishbones is a big local favorite.
If you want to splurge for a steak to die for it's Charlies Steakhouse.
Read my trip report about Angels. They have several stores in the area and big local favorite.
Shells is another big local. several stores in the Orlando area and have some very good seafood/pasta dishes and very reasonable. Hit the peanut barrel while waiting and the SHELLS go on the floor. LOL
If you don't mind a drive, take I-4 East to Maitland Blvd, 20 miles est, take west exit off I-4 to Sam Sneads is on the right. Classy and good.

Here is a link to area places.

Thanks Kimmar, I have eaten at Fishbones and it was wonderful. I also really enjoy Timpanos on Sand Lake. The Smoked mussels are excellent. I tend to load up on seafood when I go to FL or CA since living in KC our seafood all has to flown in. I never have trusted Sushi unless I am near the water.

I am also renting a car (we got a weekly rate on a full size that was only about $40 more than roundtrip fare to the WL) and planning on using it to DTD, AK, and MGM. I was planning on boating to MK and catching the Monorail to Epcot when we go there so we can all experience that. Anyone done this?

Thanks to all for the wonderful welcome, I have to go now and secure that second mortgage (I just looked at my budget for restaurants and it will not cover it). I have PS for CRT (b), Biergarten (L), WCC (D), Teppenyaki (D), Hollywood & Vine (D),
Rainforest Cafe (L), CA Grill (D).

Can't Wait!!

Kimmar gave you a good tip on the lobby. One caution, we had PS for WC, so I was ready and told DD & DGD I would wait for them down in the lobby. I got in one of those big comfy chairs slid back so I could see up into the rafters and listen to the music. You guessed it, when DD & DGD arrived I was knocking off the ZZZZ's. Oh well, it gave them something to raze me about.

This is a test of the emergency picture gathering system. If this had been a real emergency you would have known it by now!

Where are all the pics I am supposed to get? I haven't gotten any since Tim (Ratpack) sent me his BEFORE I left for MY trip.

I am currently workin on going through the 500+ digital pics I took so I may be a while but what about the rest of you?

I want pictures of YOU for the FAQ Members gallery and I want balcony view pics with room #s!!! Send em over to wdwwl@majesticnetworks.net ok? TODAY! No excuses!

We now return to your normal programming already in progress.

Thank you.

We saw a guy snoozing on Sunday evening - beer in hand. I was afraid he was going to spill it, but I didn't want to wake him.

Day 4 is now up for those interested.....enjoy

KCDISDAD.....we did the boat to contemporary and then monorail to Epcot....this worked out very well

We have an upcoming trip this December with my whole family, us, my brother's family and my mom and dad. It is a Christmas gift from the folks. Now to set the reason behind this question, my mom suffers from congestive heart failure and is seemingly getting weaker as the months progress, so this may be our last chance at a family vacation. What I would love is to get some photos of the family in MK without all the crowds, we did this in July with my daughter. I have a wonderful picture of her in a Cinderella costume standing in front of the castle with no one else around. Would it be totally wrong to book a PS just to get into MK before the crowds? My mind is whirling on this one.

Oh, and Fred, your siggie says your daughter will have been twice before 3, with this trip, my son will have been twice before he turns 1. Boy do we spoil our kids now a days.;)

Go for it and I would even ask a CM to keep the are clear until you have taken the picture

Check out my post above on wheelchairs

When we went to MK last Friday for our PS at 8 AM - we were told that we would need to give our confirmation number in order to get in early. There was a greeter but we did not have to give our confirmation number. Although, they did have a sign up saying there was seating available so they must not have been booked. It was really nice being able to walk up Main Street without the crowds. Really gave a different perspective. It was worth it. When I made the PS, I didn't even think about being able to get in before the crowds. It was a great surprise. Even though DS did not eat a thing, DH and I enjoyed the breakfast.

I'll let someone else comment on using PS just to get in MK early. I don't know enough about how PS works since it's been 10 year since I've been to WDW.

Just a suggestion regarding a group picture. Last time I was there before my wife and I had kids we went down with my enitire family. We got some great group pictures of us in the lobby of the GF. My mom still has one of the pictures we blew up for her in her living room it came out so good.

I know you probably want an MK backround, but finding a good place in AKL, or if you take your family over to WL for a visit, may be easier. Other guest will usually give you a wide berth in the hotels when you are setting things up etc....

just a thought.

Hi all, I found this article regarding Walt Disney and family reunions. After reading some of your posts it seems like many of you just don't go as one single family, but also includes grandmother, grandfathers, SIL, BIL, brothers, sisters, cousins, etc. You get the picture. Coming in October WDC will be rolling out "Magical Gatherings", which will cater to family reunions. Helping with things such as blocking rooms together, getting priority seating for large gatherings, and also even making space so large groups of family members can watch the parades. Read the article below, I hope this will help some:

LOS ANGELES, Sept 23 (Reuters) - Walt Disney Co. is
about to roll out a welcome mat for big families, aiming to
lure still-hesitant vacationers back to its largest theme park
by making Disney World a hub for family reunions, the parks
chief said on Tuesday.

By doing so, the world's largest theme park company expects
to capitalize on one of the few bright spots in the travel
business and help assure moderate growth next year at its most
profitable unit, Disney Parks and Resorts President Jay Rasulo
told Reuters in an interview.

The attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, other global violence and
the weak economy have led many families to reach out to distant
relatives, Rasulo said.

"Here in the U.S., since 9/11 we have been seeing more of a
tendency for families wanting to be together and to vacation
together," Rasulo said. "Now we're trying to gear our business
around this trend."

Rasulo does not have high expectations for next year, given
the weak economy.

"I think we are targeting kind of sustained, moderate
growth in 2004," he said.

But the unit, which accounted for more than 40 percent of
entertainment conglomerate Disney's operating income in the
June quarter and had the fattest profit margin, is pulling out
the stops to take advantage of the move to multi-generation,
multi-family travel, he said.

In October, Florida's Disney World will roll out a program
for family reunions called Magical Gatherings that will help
book large blocks of rooms next to each other, prepare
restaurants for family dinners and even find space along a
parade route for a few dozen people to watch together.

"We think that we are doing everything that we can do to be
receptive to improving economics and improving geopolitical
situation and I think putting out messages and products that
can break through a lot of the hesitancy out there," Rasulo
said.

Disney has been building new parks around the world for the
last few years but now expects to cut capital expenditures
substantially. Deutsche Bank in a July report saw fiscal 2003
capital expenditure around $650 million, compared with an
average of $1.55 billion annually between fiscal 1998 and
fiscal 2001.

Rasulo said parks would return to classic themes and
stories, such as Mickey Mouse, more often in new attractions as
a less expensive way to improve the resorts.

I am creating a Screensaver slide show from your pictures. I must say we have a talented group of photographers. Ratpack, your night shots full screen are awesome.
When your computer is at idle there will be a parade of your pictures gliding across the screen.
When the latest returnees get their pictures into Majestic I will then complete it and have it ready to e-mail to you. Those that are not that comfortable around a computer, relaxed as I will make step by step instructions on how to load and use. Also how you can update it as new pictures come in.

Thanks Disneykid, great news.

I would just like to say that we are the luckiest thread to have people like Majestic and FloridaCat. You guys are the greatest for doing all these things.

THANKS

Thanks for the compliment FloridaCat, I am going to try and get some more good shots of the Christmas decorations at WL when we are down in Dec. I have to take the bus over though as we are staying at that other lodge. I may have to just go over and sleep in the lobby at WL instead.

Oh and if you want, I can send you the full blown versions of those night shots. The ones I sent Fred are reduced down for size constraints.

I'm really loving reading your trip reports. You are great at telling your families story at WDW.

Just one thing though..........I know I am new to this thread, but is there any chance of getting you tone down that Bon Jovi picture a little. It's kind of embarrassing for us guys to have this big picture of Bon Jovi.....with his leather shirt half open..... plastered all over our screen.....especially when you are trying to check this thread at work:) I think some of my co-workers are going to start spreading rumors about me soon.......if you know what I mean ;)

Not wanting to jinx myself but....we may be planning a return to the lodge around Xmas. Probably stay 12/18 to 12/22 and celebrate DW's birthday (12/19) there. That is of course if the pixie dust blows our way. (hint hint, nudge nudge....)

Maybe we can come pick you up Tim! :P
