What do mean lines? I've never seen any lines marked on my caps. But I want to make sure everything gets cleaned and all bacteria/germs are gone. So we use a capful, wash on the hottest setting with laundry sanitizer and use liquid fabric softener. Then when we dry clothes, we also use a dryer sheet.

You could also put a cup of white vinegar in the wash with the same effect.

Look at your rinse water. Is it full of suds? If so, you’re using too much.

I did just break out our humidifier last weekend. I only use it when it’s really bad. It’s important to clean it often or it can make you very ill. We use an anti-fungal/bactericidal additive to the water to help on that end.

On the dryer sheet front, we switched to dryer balls instead. A drop of essential oils on it makes it smell good and kicks the static and they are reusable over and over so the cost is minimal over all.

I'd love to line dry but when it's finally nice enough to do that we have awful amounts of pollen *everywhere* so my clothes wouldn't be clean and I'd be even more miserable than normal.

As a family of 5, we do probably 4 loads of clothes a week and one with towels and one with bedding. A big jug of detergent lasts us.... a long time. A thing of toilet paper will last us over a month. We stopped using regular paper towels (minus the ones we keep for pet accidents since we have a puppy) and instead use reusable paper towels or old flour sack towels to clean things up and just wash and reuse.

I got so tired of paying for things we just constantly throw away, literally throwing money away, and instead we're slowly switching to quality items. Glass containers, stainless steel, cast iron.

I'm trying to live in 2026 like it's the 90s. I don't grow up being so wasteful so why am I now?

There's a whole variety of things on the list, including many that cost nothing "volunteer 60 hours", "read 60 books", "watch the Godfather films" - I have never seen any of them and I am sure I will track them down somehere on free TV.

Lots of cost nothing on my 50 in 50 year also. Been at it for 2 months now and some are starting to be life changing. Smile more. Be kinder. I have things that aren’t free also, but most are free. Some money saving ones @WDW_fan_in_TX are date nights at home, cooking together after finding healthy foods on sale together.

And we still have at least half a pack left a few years ago I devoted a drawer to flour sack towels and microfiber rags and bought a dollar tree basket to throw the dirty ones in... our paper towel consumption dropped drastically

hey-those of you dealing with dry air and static. if it affects your hair (like it does mine)-did you know that the product 'static guard' is made to use on your hair as well as on your clothing/fabrics? says right on the can-and it work I spray it on the comb or brush I use.

I also use a tiny bit too much lotion on my hands and the little bit of excess I rub along my hair. That cuts down on static in my hair.
I like Eucerin in the big tub. It's a tad greasy at first but once it soaks in, it lasts a long time. At work that means like 15 minutes later when I wash my hands again. It's amazing for my feet and legs though. It's expensive at CVS but with the 2-pack on Amazon's Subscribe and Save, it's not too bad. I keep one at work, one in the bathroom and one at my computer desk.

I saw these recommended on a yt channel about housecleaning tips. So I bought some different colored ones so I know which belong to the bathroom, which are for the kitchen, which are for furniture polish. Also on Subscribe & Save though I haven't needed any more so I keep pushing it out another 6 months. We still use paper towels for handwashing/drying and for really gross messy stuff while cooking.

I do 2 loads for dh's work clothes and one load for mine. He has a lot of sweatshirts and thermals so it can't fit in one load. One load of towels and a load of sheets. That's 5 without even touching regular clothes and delicates yet.

I grew up hanging clothes out on the line to dry and they smell so clean and fresh. mmmm... We had a clothes tree in our back yard here but once I started getting recurring sinus infections and looked further into controlling my allergies better, all the tips say to not hang laundry outside because of all the pollen. We all see the yellow stuff in spring but that is from pine trees but that is just one of many that you cannot see. I just can't do it anymore. I can't even open my windows. It goes from tree pollen in spring to grass pollen in summer to ragweed in fall. I'm also allergic to English plantain and I don't even know when that pollinates but I'm allergic to dust too and that's all year long.

It took so many years to get my sinuses to a good place and I just can't wreck it now.

I guess the perk to hubby's and my jobs are that we don't need "work clothes". I just wear my regular jeans and tshirts and he wears sweats and a tshirt and hoodie under his freezer gear that work provides. Plus with him on nights, he can lounge around the house in his "work clothes" for the 2.5 hours he's awake before he goes in so we don't have a lot of extra clothing. When we get changed for bed at night we just throw all the dirty stuff in the washer and once it gets full we run it, which is usually every other day-ish. I do towels on Friday nights and sheets Saturday.

The only time we have extra laundry days is if I needed to wash softball uniform for DD10 if she had back to back game days.

I guess the perk to hubby's and my jobs are that we don't need "work clothes". I just wear my regular jeans and tshirts and he wears sweats and a tshirt and hoodie under his freezer gear that work provides. Plus with him on nights, he can lounge around the house in his "work clothes" for the 2.5 hours he's awake before he goes in so we don't have a lot of extra clothing. When we get changed for bed at night we just throw all the dirty stuff in the washer and once it gets full we run it, which is usually every other day-ish. I do towels on Friday nights and sheets Saturday.

The only time we have extra laundry days is if I needed to wash softball uniform for DD10 if she had back to back game days.

I don't work anymore and spend my life in very casual clothes 90% of the time. DH works from home since COVID and has "indoor clothes" - shorts and t-shirts that are fine for being seen on Zoom but would not face external scrutiny. I think that has halved, at least, our laundry loads from when we were both office based. And the ironing has dropped dramatically too. As has the dry cleaning bill.

This morning I discovered my cable and broadband service was out of contract and was about to increase about 25% as the discounts all dropped off.

I did an online chat and got the same price for the next 2 years, with increased broadband speeds, wifi boosters to improve the service in the living room, standard Netflix and an improved sports coverage.

I have put a note in the online diary to renegotiate when this package runs out in 2028.

This was not what was on the agenda for this morning but the other jobs can easily wait until later.

Nice job. I'm getting heavily screwed by Spectrum cable internet, up to 90 bucks a month now. I was paying 60 for the same service a few years ago. I have no leverage though because the only alternative where I live is either something like Verizon or TMobile hotspot which is not enough juice for my job (work from home), or Starlink which is more expensive. The only consolation is that I'm a 1099 so I can claim a percentage of it on my taxes for home office expenses.

Us too. We were up to $90. I called in and threatened to cancel, and they suddenly could lower it to $40 and lock it in for 2 years. It's amazing what threatening to cancel could do. But I've had times where I've threated, and a company has said okay see ya later

I believe this happened with our electric bill. The plan we were on expired in December. I didn't get back on a plan and our electric bill this month is forecasted to be between $700-$800. I'm thinking it's probably cause of the cold snap we've had the last week and a half. But now that you've mentioned this, that could be the case I guess. I will wait until the February bill comes out mid-March. If it's higher than our normal bill ($250-$300), then I will call them.

I have no realistic alternate supplier as anything else would require considerable infrastructure changes that I am not prepared to pay for but fortunately my supplier doesn't know that!

You are lucky. I tried to renegotiate a couple weeks ago when my contract was up and both offers were way more than what I had been paying. That’s even with me letting them know about the offers the 2 alternatives in my area were offering. So…I guess I have to change. But I really hate reconnecting the garage cameras to a new WiFi. It’s just not easy.

I bought multicolored with a similar plan but was too lazy to maintain. Now I just make sure I grab a few colors when I do the bathroom then match them: blue for index, green because we use simple green on counters, yellow for toilet Then I know not to use any yellow rags in the bathroom anywhere else!

Love this for my job too - I buy jeans then get an allowance for tshirts, sweatshirts, jackets each year. DHs jobs have been fairly casual dress overall too, polos or decent long sleeves (not collared but say, good condition quarter zips) and jeans or khakis have been good. The main issue is DH laying on the ground for something auto related in the "good" jeans
