Hello Leafette - That set is very similiar to the one that I bought for our bestfriends son for Christmas. They have a lot of different sets but this set gives him 40 different cards.
Walmart, Kmart, and Target all carry the cards. They should have starter packs (a larger "deck") as well as expansion packs.
I got DS a starter set that came with a game case (to hold game deck when playing), a card case (larger holds all the cards as individual cards or as decks), and a starter pack and some special expansion packs- I got it at kmart for $20 I think- which is a pretty good deal.
The older card packs will be cheaper- pay attention when you are buying- you can have a $2 expansion pack next to a $8 expansion pack lol
I know absolutely nothing about the games but I've been shopping for them for ds for years- he will still play a game of Pokemon for kicks and that was the game I knew a little more about- but has played Magic, YuGiOh, and now plays World of Warcraft (those are the hardest to get)
Yes - that's what you want. You may want to get her a binder with card sleeves in it as well so she can display her cards. Some kids are into displaying/collecting, and others want to actually play the game.
I remember when my oldest was into this. They usually trade cards for a better one, or they play a game with it. It's sort of like baseball cards. Some cards will have a greater value than others. It must be an age thing cause he was in the 3rd or 4th grade when he was into this.
My DD's 8th birthday is on Feb. 12. She's asking for some Yu-Gi-Oh cards (apparently all the rage in the mixed-grade gifted class). I have no clue what to get. Is there some kind of starter set or something. I saw some in Blockbuster when I went to take a movie back and am now even more confused. There were so many choices.
Wow, I remember when my oldest (almost 15) was into Yu-Gi-Oh. He even dressed up as the purple guy one Halloween. It has been a while, I'm surprised they're still popular.
DD likes Pokemon cards, she actually plays with DH. We get hers at Target, they have a pretty good selection. I'm sure that they also have Yu-Gi-Oh cards.
Wow. I've not heard about those in years. I'm fifteen. They were popular when I was in fifth grade.
You want to buy the tin starter deck. That has everything you need. You also might want to get a few of the little packs. They're cheap, and they really spice it up.
Sorry to offend. I just meant that it was in this class that she heard about the cards. The kids in there all have them, and now she wants them too. It's a mixed grade class, and she tends to like to keep up with the older kids in the class.
Again, sorry to offend. I have deleted the offensive post. I had never heard of these before and was just asking for information. I didn't realize that people would take such offense to the wording.
Wow, some folks really have an issue with the word/classification gifted, don't they? Then again only on the DIS can a thread be turned into something else. lol
