Netflix!!

We just set up our free trial of Netflix about a week ago. While the kids are loving it, I am not so much.

Am I the only one who thinks the selection is extremely limited?

I swear I went through the entire movie library and all I saw were movies I've either already seen (some of my favorites are there but I've seen them many times) or movies I have no interest in. Every movie I did a search for was listed as unavailable. These were not new movies either. Does it get better once your free trial is over? Will more movies be added once we actually start paying for it?

We cut our cable in October and bought the Roku player to stream Netflix. We LOVE it! There are so many movies and tv shows and I really like the recommendations that Netflix throws out. There are times we sit down to watch a movie, but end up scrolling for 20 minutes because there are so many good choices.

The other thing I love about our Roku is that there are free channels on it as well as subscribed ones. We have free music channels, news podcasts and various other channels. It's also Hulu and AMazon ready. It really was a great decision for us.

Which selection? Their selection of DVDs? or their selection of streaming titles?

Their selection of DVDs is not limited. If you think it is, then we need to know: What movies are you expecting to be available, that are not?

Streaming titles are limited: Many production companies are not yet comfortable with the new technology so don't allow Netflix or anyone to stream them. Still other production companies feel that Netflix is charging far too little for streaming a movie. They object strongly to the idea of splitting $8 per month with Netflix and a bunch of other studios, for work they did that would garner them far more money else-wise. They do make their titles available via services like Amazon.com, for $3-$4 per movie. But that's a different service.

So if you feel that Netflix's streaming options are limited, that raises the question: Which unlimited movie subscription service is available to you for less money per month, with more titles available?

The streaming is very limited to me. I couldn't find anything I wanted to watch. Seriously, nothing. I was very surprised and disappointed. You'd think there would be at least a few I'd like to see but there was not one. I guess I expected it to be more like On Demand, which has all the latest movies (which, yes, I understand you pay per movie). Chalk it up to misguided expectations. If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

The kids and my husband are enjoying the service, though, so we'll surely keep it.

Evidently, I'm the only person on earth who hasn't subscribed to Netflix yet.

I've got a question . . . DH and I usually watch movies in our living room. The kids sometimes watch movies in the living room and sometimes in the playroom. My younger DS watches movies a lot from different locations in the house on a portable DVD player. So, if it streams through the Wii, which is in the playroom, how can we watch movies anywhere other than on that TV? Do I still need to have the service that sends DVDs, too?

There are a number of different devices that can run the Netflix software, not just the Wii. We have an Xbox 360 that runs it, a Samsung television and a Samsung Blu-ray disc player that both run it, and then of course our computer runs it. Now, if the only Netflix-compatible device you have is the Wii, then of course that's the only device that you can stream Netflix movies to.

Here I am: The Last person to sign up for Netflix!

And I have a question:

I'm considering getting the Roku box to stream my Netflix shows. Can I take the Roku box to my mom's house (like for Thanksgiving) and watch movies there or can I only use it at my house?

Another question:

Do I have to have a NetFlix subscription to stream movies via the Roku box or can I stream movies without the Roku?
