So I"m sitting in my computer room minding my own business. I hear a chainsaw outside but think nothing of it because I didn't hire anyone. My dd comes in from school and tells me 2 guys are cutting down MY maple tree on MY property. I go out and ask WTH??? :confused3 and they tell me my aging old senile neighbor told them to go ahead and cut it down. They've butchered my tree! I'm so mad! I'm beyond pissed off.

So now I have this really sad looking maple tree with no branches on it or anything just standing there looking pathetic and the tree was probably 25-30 feet tall and now it's probably 10-15 left.

UGH I hate neighbors sometimes! It was probably more than likely her son in law that arranged for it but still...I'm beyond pissed. Thanks for letting me vent. They did stop cutting it when I went and told them no way but still it looks pathetic now! :headache:

Is that even legal?? Isn't that destruction of property? Seriously, I would have the police out to their house so fast their heads would spin.

Sorry to hear about the tree, have had a few dealings with neighbors over things like that in the past.

Sounds like a “Peoples Court” thing to me

WTH! My neighbor would be ponying up for the removal of the old tree and a new mature maple planting.

I would have there heads!

Seriously. Esp if it's the son-in-law-let him deal with it.

I honestly didn't even think about that. They are gone now and left my tree in a pathetic state. I highly doubt my neighbor or her son in law would know or admit to knowing the name of who they were. We have a lot of "entrepreneurs" around here doing odd jobs like this. Most of them probably aren't legal or licensed. The tree will grow back *like hair I guess* but it just really irritated me. Lesson learned! I just hate cutting down trees!

I don't think there is much they can do at this point considering the people are gone and this sort of thing happens all the time. Knowing how they work they work for cash only. They had no name on their truck and it was just 2 men out there. They stopped when I said so but honestly I don't think there is much I can do about it. It's now a he said/she said thing between my neighbor and I and since I have NO idea who they were I can't get them to verify who hired them. I'm just so po'd and po'd at myself for not calling the cops first. I've never had an issue like this. The neighbor or her son in law have ALWAYS asked first. Ugh!

Take a picture of the tree now, this way if you need it you can show what it looks like. Also, find a picture of what it did look like. It would cost alot to replace it, you don't know but the tree might be sick now and die.

Do you see any trees on their property that were worked on? I would call the police just to make a report, even if there isn't any evidence they were working for the neighbors.

How can a neighbor call people to take down a tree that isn't even on their property!? What kind of company would even do such a thing?! Isn't that considered trespassing (among other illegal things)?

If you get the police involved, I'm sure the neighbors will have to divulge the name of the people they contracted to take down the tree.

Let me tell you, I'd be so steaming hot mad that I don't know what I would do!!!!! Please keep us posted on what you decide to do. If it were me, I'd call the police and track down a lawyer friend for advice!

Are you kidding me? Who would think it was okay to cut down a tree on someone's property because their neighbor said so?

Sorry about your tree. We have a big old Maple too and they are beautiful.

I do have pics of the tree before and can take one now. Am waiting for dh to get home....I am not the best at these kinds of situations. It took all I had to go confront them about it. He will be home in 30 min or so and we'll go from there. I think the tree was getting some kind of disease and we were going to have someone look at it this spring and decide what to do with it. It just really shocked me that they would do that.

There are people that just ring your doorbell all the time around here wanting to trim your trees and such. I wouldn't even know how to find them. I used one YEARS ago to cut down a walnut tree that really needed to come down and I couldn't afford the 2K the tree people quoted me so I hired them. Right or wrong I did it but it was MY tree on MY property. They didn't give me an invoice or anything. Told me the price, told me to pay them cash and they did it. I'm sure it was the same type of deal. In fact I really *though I am pissed at the neighbor or her son in law* highly doubt they even had a company name. It was probably 2 guys just trying to make some cash quick.

I have a friend who is a lawyer that I can contact about it but I'm not hopeful to get a resolution to it. I just know how these guys work. Cash and carry quick! My neighbor has no trees on the front of her property but the tree is right ON the property line though I do own it according to my county records.

I will see what dh says and go from there! Thanks for letting me vent and not think I was insane about being mad about a tree. It really doesn't serve a "huge" purpose with my house as I don't have anything it shades but it was more the principal of the thing that got me.

Maybe if this tree is on or near the line, they wanted it just trimmed on there side. And the people doing it got it wrong.

I wish that was the case but they took down the whole top of the tree all the way around. I'm going to get a pic and try to post it here in a few.
