My close friends will be visiting Disney World in a few days. They have a small baby and the he has been coughing a lot lately. Since I'm like the "Disney expert", she asked me where the closest good hospital is?

So, I thought I'd ask the REAL Disney experts! :wizard: Can anyone help us out??? :goodvibes

Thanks in advance!

I usually make a trip to Celebration Hospital on almost every trip. The only thing I can say is that its a typical ER in that you will wait almost all of your day away (or at least it feels like it).

I think ive seen other posts recommending the physicians who come to your room or a medical center on site? Maybe some of the real experts can give you some better advice.

I have also heard that the physicians that do "house" calls are excellent. She might be better off doing that because I am sure they have pediatricians on call. Guest Services at the resort can help them.

Whatever you do don't szend them to Heart of Florida Hospital, DS had to make a trip there last year at this time, and they messed up royally!! It's about 20 minutes from Disney. I would definatley look into the in-room doctor
They could call Disney before they leave just to get the info IF they need it.

For a small infant I would suggest Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital.

I have had the in room Physicians come to our hotel room about 3 years ago. The Dr. came a 2 am and was excellent. We had been food poisoned and were becoming dehydrated quickly. The service was excellent. He even called our room for the 2 days following to check up on us. I have the name and number in my files, because I tried to get Blue Cross to cover it but they would not. It was worth every penny though

I recently used CentraCare right outside Downtown Disney for my infant and was very happy with it. The pharmacy in the same building doesn't take insurance, though, and I was not able to find a 24 hour pharmacy nearby.

There's a 24 hr Walgreen's on Rt. 535, right near the Vista Way Apt. Complex for College Program kids....

We have been to Centra care and it was very good. Our insurance picked it up-Aetna. DH has also been to Celebration Hospital.

and we used the service where the MD comes to your room. We were very pleased with the service. We called the fron desk and they connected us to the service. Since her fever was not getting better, we were advised to go to a clinic called After Hours Pediatrics on John Turner Road. Again, we were very pleased with this service also. Back home now and daughter is doing fine.

Just a quick question..how much was this service and did he accept credit cards or cash only? Just trying to add this expense to my trip so there are no surprises.

We have also used the Centracare at the crossroads. We were pleased with them, and (God forbid) if we need medical care on a future visit we would use them again :)

I got a sinus infection last week, and got the number for Centra Care's on call doc. He was there in 15 mins of my call, brought the rx with him, and took credit cards. $200 to show up, plus $60 for the antibiotic, if insurance doesn't cover it it's still worth every penny. When I called they said walk-in was $155 or $200 for hotel visit, totally worth the extra money. He also called Turner Drug for me to order a nasal spray, which they delivered to the hotel for $5, and the front desk called when it arrived. I was very pleased with both services.

Looks like people have pointed out most of the options. One thing I'd tell your friends (or anybody else when travelling) to do is check to see what their insurance covers.

We've use Sandlake Hospital, as well as the walk in clinics. Several years ago we were down (the year with the big flu scare) and our son got very sick. At the time our insurance (an HMO) didn't include the walk-in facilities, so our best option was an ER and the $50 co-pay. Sandlake Hospital was listed under the plan and they were very good.

Last year we used one of the Centra-Care facilites (they were added to my Aetna HMO) and that was very convenient. They fill the prescription for you right there, saving a trip to the pharmacy.

Always a good idea to be aware of what health facilities your insurance includes when you are travelling.

And they are great! I used to frequent that place at all hours for food and soda and such when I was in the College Program!

I can't say enough about Celebration Hospital. Even though I now live about 30 minutes away from there, I would pass right by several hospitals (Including Heart of Florida) and go to Celebration.

Unfortunately, I had to visit Celebration's ER. They are WONDERFUL!!!!!!

We have also used Centra-Care and were not impressed....The wait was just as long, if not longer than Celebration.

As my DD has a cold which due to Murphys Law will most likely turn into something green, I was thinking about this very topic last night.

You guys all had great information, I am printing some of these replies and adding them to my travel packet just in case.

Resting easier.......Knowing Urgent Care is near.........

We have used the dr.s that come to your room, and we were really pleased. It was expensive--around $260, but they did take credit cards and our insurance (BC/BS of Illinois) did reimburse us for most of it when we filed. The dr. called in a prescription to a pharmacy that delivered to the front desk of our hotel. We would definitely use this service again!

If it is a non-emergency situation, I would recommend AfterHours Pediatrics in the strip mall area at the corner of Dr. Phillips and Conroy. They are great there. I've taken my DD there a couple of times. They have great private areas for each family complete with a rocking chair and a television showing some type of movie. We watched Shark's Tale the last time we were there. They take most forms of insurance and are open very late.

To get there, take CR535 to Conroy. It is about a 10 minute drive from the Crossroads are to Conroy. Make a right on Conroy. Take Conroy until you come to Dr. Phillips. It will be in the strip mall area to the right.
