need makeup (foundation) help!

Hi all, I need help finding a good foundation. My skin is very blotchy because I have rosacea and even when I do find a foundation that will cover up the redness, it never lasts all day long. I've tried using different primers like the Smashbox photofinish both the regular and the green and also the Monistat trick but my makeup is still gone at the end of the work day. (actually it's gone by around 2:30-3:00). I am so tired of everyone asking what is wrong, did you get sunburned, do you have a rash, etc........

Right now, I'm using the BM matte foundation in medium beige. I love the way it looks in the morning or right after I put it on but it only lasts a few hours.

Any suggestions?

I was going to suggest the BE Matte. I'm using that too. Also have rosacea although it's not bad.

I find that the BE is on most of the day--I'm still not very red by the time I get home, but I do use the foundation, the warmth as a middle layer, and then the mineral veil on top. Of course if I have a flare, it won't stop that redness, but so far it is really the best foundation I've found.

Well, I was going to ask...why don't you just do a bit of a touch-up at lunch?
If you have something that you like, just retouch/reapply at lunch. I have to powder my face a couple of times a day and its no big deal.

I have the same skin type as yours plus vitiligo and I love Laura Mercier Silk Cream or Estee Lauder Double Wear (in that order). Both are great for our skin type, plus my skin is very sensitive/reactive and neither of these irritate it. Good luck!

I have used Elizabeth Arden Sponge on Cream Makeup for years. I think it gives good coverage (but not heavy).

I use the Monistat trick too but for foundation I use the new(ish) Cover Girl / Oil of Olay Simply Ageless foundation that comes in a compact. I'm not sure if I have rosacea, but I had problem skin and have been on Retin-A for over 2 years. As a result I have ruddy-redish cheeks and this foundation seems to help without looking heavy or cakey.

FWIW I used to use BM religiously until I got sick of literally sweating it off or it wearing off in hours. Not sure why I spent so much money on it for so long. But I'm very happy with the Cover Girl product.

wow, BM is the only makeup that I don't sweat off, but I really want something with more coverage, maybe I will try the Cover Girl, I hate spending a lot of money, I just want to look like I do.

Small tip - buy from CVS because if you don't like it, you can return it.

I've used Clinique Superfit for years. It's oil free, humidity and sweat resistant, yet has good coverage. I believe it's $24.

I haven't tried the CG foundation yet, but I did buy some of the cream blush. It was actually kind of yucky and I don't care that it has a smell to it. Have you tried that yet and what did you think of it compared to the foundation. One thing I've noted with some drugstore brands of foundation--they stink. Some Lancome stuff does too.

I'm going to have a scar from Thyroid surgery soon so I guess this makeup would be good for covering that up too. Could someone please explain the Monistat tip?

There is a MOnistat chafing relief cream which turns into a silky powedery finish. Many are using it instead of expensive foundation primers, because it is a lot cheaper. The idea behind the primer is just that - primes your face for the foundation layer. It fills in your pores and is supposed to help the makeup stay on better.

If anyone has an Ulta store near them, I love love love them. I started using Studio Tech liquid matte foundation from there a few months ago. I LOVE it. I used to use Mac, but like this one so much better. I believe it is $24 a bottle, but it lasts, covers very well, stays on, and there is usually a coupon that comes in the Sunday paper for Ulta.

You can also try on samples to find the right brand or color. Ask a sales lady for help. And if you don't like it, as long as you save the receipt, you can return it for a full refund after opening the package & trying it.

I never wanted to spend a lot of money of foundation either, but you pay for what you get. If you want great coverage, it's a little more expensive.

Love Bare Minerals, but yes I have to touch up during day.

Double Ware by Lauder is known for its staying power, and I used for years, but wanted to go with something more sheer in the heat.

Revlon ColorStay liquid foundation - I found out about how awesome it is on a makeup/beauty board I post on. It's better than ANY dept store brand I've tried. The people on that board are all brand snobs and love this stuff.

I can't tell you how much better my skin appears now that I'm using it. It has better coverage than anything I've used and doesn't feel cakey. I LOVE it. Pick up a bottle at CVS for $7 and see what you think - you can always return it if it doesn't work as well for you.

I have very pale skin that rends to redness very similar to roseca, and i use clinique almost powder foundation. It is a true powder, not a creme to powder so it is really light, but covers the red well. i do reapply at lunch, but it is so light it doesn't look cakey or overdone at all.

The only foundation I use, after lots of experimenting is MAC liquid foundation. A friend of mine is a professional makeup artist for some of the TV shows, films & commercials here in NYC. I get to visit her on set sometimes, when security isn't so uptight and they let me visit. There are usually 3-4 makeup artists on some of the bigger shoots, (like for Sex & the City,) and most of them use MAC make up.

The foundation is heavily pigmented, so you don't have to apply a thick layer and look "made up." MAC has a professional line, and an every day line. The professional line is thicker and is appropriate for hiding skin problems. Their concealer is superb. It is not overly thick or chalky; covers really well. I have lots of age spots. Apply both with a slightly dampened makeup sponge.

MAC has a mineral powder line, but even they do NOT recommend it, nor is it used on film sets. It just does not give the necessary coverage. It's very sheer. The LIQUID foundation is better.

Also, the number ONE trick: is to make sure you finish off your foundation (any brand,) with a very light dusting of fine transparent powder, applied & blended in with a great soft blending brush. The transparent powder really sets the liquid foundation so it looks like the texture of skin, rather than makeup sitting on top of the skin. And it gives a flawless finish. My MAC blending brush costs me $30 and it is worth every penny.

Also, when I watch my friend retouching the actors right before shooting, she usually re-dusts more of the translucent powder on and blends & buffs like crazy. She rarely has to redo the foundation.

Before I got a nice summer tan, I was mixing two shades together. Pain in the rear for awhile but worked.
