Hello!!! I am new here.
I had always loved WDW and I had visit it al teast a dozen times.
The Thing is I live in southamerica, so travelling over there is not cheap.

Since I Have 3 kids just the airfare for the family is at least US$6500
Not to be boring my wife and I plan to take the kids every 3 or 4 years.

As I live so far away, i don´t want to buy to many points that may be losing and may be complicated selling them.

I am interesting in buying through reseller a very small amount of points let say 25. In order to become a member.

When I go to Disney I can try to get the other points I need from other members and book the 2br Villa I need on the resort where my points (not the obtained by trade) belongs

Therefore I got the benefits of membership, I manage my own reservation and save some money in accommodations.

As you all have a wide experience in booking trough your DVC points.

Do you think is an effective way using the system??? Is it possible to do it and get reservations???

One more thing I travel in May, June or September October to Disney. Almost never on US holidays.

I will appreciate any comment on my idea.

I don't think that your plan will work. If you were going to visit every two years, I would say maybe. Unless you own enough points for your entire stay you are looking at a lot of work to get things just right.

You might think about renting a reservation from a member to save you some money compared to Disney's rates.

Good luck

One piece that may be difficult is the number of points you would need for your stay. You mention needing a 2 bedroom but don't say for how long you are going to be visiting.

What you are thinking will work is to accept a transfer. However, DVC rules only allow one transfer either in or out of your UY. Therefore, you would have to find an owner who has a lot of points to transfer to make it work.

While not impossible, I think harder if you are looking at needing 300 - 400 points for a trip.

thanks for your answers!!! It really help.
regarding the lenght of the stay I plan to stay for a week in a two bedroom villa.
I thought you could receive points from different owners during one UY. What yo cannot do is receive and transfer some yours to another on the same UY. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks

you can only recieve one transfer in per use year. ( or out for that matter)

If you only plan to go every 3 to 4 years, then this is really not a good thing for you to do. You can only bank your points till the next year, so you would lose points unless you rented unused points on the years you didn't go to WDW.

I hope this helps and good luck with your decision!

Unfortunately, it is one transfer in or out of your UY. So, you would not be able to secure transfers from more than one owner for the UY.

Of course, depending on what UY your trip falls, there are ways to secure two different UY transfers that would cover the same trip, but again, it makes the planning extremely difficult. You have to secure the transfers before you make the reservation so timing it would take a lot of work.

For example, say you have an April UY and want to travel in Sept 2012. This would fall in your 2012 UY. You could seek a transfer of 2011 points from an Oct or Dec UY (which would still be good for that Sept trip) into your 2011 UY and then get say Feb 2012 UY points at the same time. This would be your 2012 UY transfer. Both these points would be good for your Sept 2012 trip as they are valid for travel during that time frame.

You would then not be able to secure a transfer until your 2013 UY. Again, while it might work, I think it would be a lot of work and risk trying to work it this way.

The only totally OUTSIDE way this might work would be to figure out how many points you would need for your 7 day trip every three years and divide by three. That way, with banking and borrowing, you would be okay going once every three years. For example, if you plan on traveling in 2011, you bank 2010's points and borrow 2012's. That gives you three years worth of points. Since you borrowed 2012's, then you bank 2013, travel in 2014 and borrow 2015, and so on... You do still have to pay your Maint. Fees every year so this would still be a big investment.
Just another take on the situation...
