I am betting Melinda did not have a will, so her parents are the executors of her estate (in Florida the state recongnizes them as the next of kin). Since they are the executors of her estate, they would do the filing on the behalf of her estate. So even if she wrote them off, legally they are the responsible party.Seahunt said:It bothers me that it's Melinda's parents that are suing - from what I've read, they pretty much "wrote her off" long ago, and that's why she was with the grandparents. I think they (or a lawyer) sees big $$$$ signs at CNN, but I have a feeling they might be sorry they started this if the big guns bring out more dirt on Melinda.
I DO agree though with the part where they are asking that "Team Trenton" keep track of all the donations coming in, since it's supposed to be used for a reward fund. I kind of thought the same thing the other day when the news showed Josh (Trenton's dad) wearing some sort of pimp hat (that's what they called it - it was a huge hat, purple, with a big feather. What's up with that?) and his team working at an outdoor venue of some kind and the reporter showed a donation jar just packed with cash.
I still have faith though that Trenton will show up someday, one way or another. But then, we still don't really know whatever happened to Jon Benet after all this time either......
Miss Jasmine said:I saw on the news that "Team Trenton" was selling T-Shirts and Buttons with Trenton's picture on them. It's getting bizarre on that side now as well. I am sure they are doing it to raise donations AND to get Trenton's picture out there, but it still seemed strange to have those items "for sale".

I thought this information wasn't discovered until Trenton's disappearance.FSUGrad97 said:IMHO, both sides seem to be pretty shady.
What I don't get is how she took him to court about a threatening e-mail that he supposedly sent to her (but it later came out that she actually wrote it), and she STILL had custody of the child. I don't know much about child custody, but I would think this type of behavior would be frowned upon by the courts.![]()
I could be very wrong though, as the stories all bizarre and running together at this point.britchick said:Guys,
Just wanted to say something here, a lot of you have been dogging the Eubanks for suing CNN, but... their daughter killed herself on the 8th Sept, Nancy grace showed the Melinda Duckett interview on the 8th Sept, literally hours after Melindas body was found. Some of the Eubank family had not even been informed of Melindas death by the authorities at that point.
The interview could have waited a few days, a lot of people have been traumatised by this, and we all know Nancy Grace is a very biased person, she has from the begining made up her mind that Trenton Duckett was not taken through that screen in the bedroom, (she told us for weeks that the cut was 10" and it wasn't possible, then recently we saw the size of the cut, it was huge!! no problem getting a 2 year old through it and yet she still maintained it was impossible to get that boy through!) yet how could she know this, let alone state it as fact. We can all have theories but Nancy Grace is reporting incorrect facts to the media.
While I don't think it is right to sue for money (prob just because you can) Nancy Grace has not been fair, and the Eubanks will for sure have suffered from all this media attention.
Their young daughter could be being bullied at school because of this.
Melinda hurt a lot of people when she put that gun to her head, and this is the Eubanks way of trying to make the hurt go away. (it won't work though)
Lets all remember a little boy still missing, and if he is alive, what will he come back to, will he ever have a normal life again, such a shame!
mrsltg said:Exactly. And don't forget, CNN and Nancy Grace have DEEP pockets. One might think they'd be busier searching for their grandson....
summerrluvv said:There is still no way someone reached through that window and grabbed the little boy. His bed was so low to the ground and not directly under the window. It would be physically impossible for someone to reach in and take him.
DWDreams said:Well, they are much too busy. So busy they hadn't seen their daughter since she was 17 and so busy that they'd actually never met their 2 y.o. grandson. In fact, so, so busy that when Melinda Duckett was alive and looking for her son, they told her they couldn't come but would be there for the funeral when he was found.
It's amazing they've found the time to pursue a lawsuit, though.
Aside from all that, the suit is ridiculous in general.
britchick said:From what I know the Eubanks are not wealthy in the slightest, they were unable to afford the flight to come see her when trenton went missing, but they were in the process of getting a free flight from a carrier of course Melinda killed herself, if she had just waited a few days they would have been there.
Of course all that is reported in the media is to do with the ducketts and team trenton etc, from what I know the Grandparents of melinda have been very active in their church and have raised a fair amount of money to go towards the reward, they have given numerous interviews that have not been shown, so with all this biased media attention we really don't know what the Eubanks are doing to find Trenton, all focus is on Josh, and all the crapolla is about Melinda.
You have to look at this case closely and realise we are not being told the whole truth here, we don't know much about the Eubanks and I really don't think its because they are too busy, they are probably very busy raising money themselves and putting up flyers, it's just not getting reported.

britchick said:How do you know did you try? Melinda said he was the kind of child that would be ok around strangers.
What if a stranger was holding a popsicle to the window and Trenton got up and went to the window.
I am NOT saying this IS what happened, I'm just saying until we have all the facts we cannot disprove anything like that, and Nancy Grace has no right to say things are impossible when in fact they are totally plausible.
Sure Melinda was all over the place, it wouldn't come as a shock to me if it came to light that she had done something terrible with Trenton, yet I can't say she's responsible as I have no proof and no facts, and now she is dead the police have to work a whole lot harder in finding this little boy.
The police say they believe he is alive, why? because he was seen at a wendys? we are not being told a lot of things in this case, and some of the things that have been released are shocking beyond belief, not just Melindas antics but Josh Duckett too.
At the end of the day I understand why the Eubanks are suing, but I don't think it's right. These people have lost 2 children, a daughter and a grandson, and no matter what anyone thinks of them they just have to be destroyed right now, they are angry that they lost their daughter, and as any parents they don't want to believe their own child was this messed up. Its so much easier to blame someone else and that happens to be Nancy Grace and team trenton.

DWDreams said:I thought it anyway, but now with the information that they've discovered she was involved with pornography and there are even pics of her on the net with her son right in the picture while she's "busy" in the forefront, well I guess it just affirms to me that she didn't have much respect for her parental responsibility at least.
