I don't like the names Patrick, Jason or Jerry. They were my step relatives name. Same with Jimmy Joey Jerry and Anthony. Just bad memories. Oh and you can add Mark to the list. Boy I have alot or resentments LOL. :confused3

Hey!! Skywalker

I was going to state the same thing that Mrs. Toad did, so I thought I would just quote hers to reiterate the point!! Maybe you should take the time to read it again.
Thanks Mrs. Toad! :teeth:

You see my son's name is Hunter. And no, "it's not just a name", as you stated. Did you pick the name Skywalker because it's "just a name"? No, I'm sure it has some meaning to you, that's why you chose it. :)

In the future may I suggest you choose your words and/or phrasing more carefully. As I have so carefully choosen mine. :)

Hey thanks for your instructions. I read the post v-e-r-y-c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y and know what? I still don't like the name Hunter. Perhaps you can provide me the acceptable wording of my opinion and then I will re-phrase it to your liking. Promise. Or perhaps it is just unacceptable altogether to dislike the name Hunter. Is it okay to dislike any name, or just Hunter? :rotfl:

Anyway, good night & good luck :wave2:

My daughters name is Jasmine and if someone I knew wanted to name their dog Jasmine I would find it kinda cool.:

My dog's name is Jasmine. :goodvibes

And that reminds me of the time I was talking with a woman who told me her sons' name is Thunder, and I told her I used to have a dog named that... I hope she wasn't offended! But, I suppose since I told her how great he was, it turned into a compliment. :rotfl:

I've never liked the names:

Bethany
MacKenzie
Kendra
Ashley
Rachel
Amber
Kelly
Chelsea
Tiffany

I don't really like the name Marie anymore either. My aunt's middle name is Marie, my middle name is Marie, my great aunt's middle name is Marie....and just about every Heather I know has the middle name Marie!

can't think of any boys names that I dislike

I don't like names that are spelled awkward either....my friend just had a baby girl. She named her Rayvyn.

My DH's first lab was Hank (after some famouse TV fisher). This one is names Doc. A good friend of his is Dr. Al. Al sounds too much like "owl" so I talked him into naming the dog "Doc" instead of Al. Little did he know I was sneaking some Disney in there (from Snow White!)

Nicki got her name from Nichole, a girl from our local college whom I "adopted" and loved while she was going to school here and away from her home in GA. I am not sure Nichole was flattered but, oh well! :rotfl:

A friend of mine has a DD named Sadie. Actually her name is Sara Helen and they call her Sadie (named after 2 grandmothers).
I think I have always been "weird" with my naming...not only do I have a DD named Hunter but I had a girl dog named George. Hmm. :confused3 I never thought about it before. :lmao:

Honestly, I am used to people being mixed about DD's name. When I was pregnant and asked by my ILs what names we were thinking off, we said Hunter and my MIL said, "Well, maybe you'll change your mind." :rotfl2:
And there were a few nutty comments like, "Will your next one be named "Fisher"? :rotfl: (DH used to hunt and fish.) As long as I like it and DD is happy with it, that is all that really matters.

Now the name Brenda  ;)

Female dog named George....hahaha that's a good one. I like it. :) What is most important is that you name your pet/child something you like. Who cares if someone else doesn't like Hunter, you didn't name her to please your MIL. :rotfl: When I 1st told my Mother if I had a girl I was going to name her Jasmine, she thoguht it was horrible. She tried to get my husband to change my mind. My grandmother thought it sounded like a boy name. :confused3 At that time, Jasmine was not heard. Then the movie came out with Princess Jasmine and it become more popular. I wasn't too happy about it, but nothing I could do. Have fun coming up with a special name for your next family member.

Well my kids names are pretty common. Timothy John (TJ) and Aleksander Paul (Aleks). So yes Aleks' name isn't traditionally spelled, but phonically correct and people still have trouble saying it.

Our dog's name was Hunter and we loved him very much and choose his name carefully and like the name very much. I also have a distant cousin whose son is named Hunter, (I didn't know until after we named our dog).

My brother's kids are Cheyenne and Madison. And when they had their son we tried like crazy to get them to name him Austin. But it was a no go and they named him........wait for it.....Cody. The funny part is I have a Dakota at school that goes by Koty and I occassionally call my nephew Dakota and it is not even his name.

Like another poster said there are no names that I dislike, but there are several that make me cringe when I hear them since I have a PTSD episode from work.

Awsome! :goodvibes Whenever I see a dog on petfinder named Jasmine, I call my daughter over to see her.

I wouldn't have been offended. :) I had a friend who had a beagle named Thunder. Now that is a cool name.

Now you are choosing to be sarcastic. And you're missing the point all together. To further explain would be futile.

About 3 weeks ago we were at the park and there was a very pretty little girl there named Sophie. And I just knew without a doubt one of my 5 year olds would say. that our dogs name was Sophie. Sure enough before I had even processed the thought. I hear my son. Hey we have a dog named Sophie. The lady was kind and she said oh how nice. and they talked about the type of dog she was. I apologized and she seemed ok.

a few minutes later she starts calling her son, Oh Sam.. Sam, I wanted to run and hide. of course our bunny is named Sam. And of course my son points out this fact. Still she laughs..I say well clearly we have the same taste in names... They are very pretty names. My son says to her we also have a cat named Sunny? do you have one of those? Nope, a cat named Sonic? Got one of those. Nope...

A few minutes go by he says we have fishies too... She says really whats there names? I say Mr And Mrs, Goldberg. ( get it goldfish goldberg) any guess as to her name????Goldstein.

She laughed again, but I think by this time she was not particualrly amused)

That is by the way a true story. :rotfl2:

I'm keeping things general to avoid offending anyone but my naming pet peeves are:

1.)People naming daughters with boys' names because they wanted them to be "strong". An Eleanor can't be strong? Tell that to Eleanor Roosevelt.

2.)Extraneous letters in any name. Madassyn, for example.

3.) Occupation names or last names used as first names. It makes your kid sound like a law firm.

4.)Taking an established name and spelling it wrong so that your child will be "different". The teacher can't hear that you spell your kid's name Emmyleigh. Your daughter will end up having to spell her name every time she signs up for something and the teacher will still refer to her as "Emily R."

Whew, I feel better getting that off my chest!

My next family member will be a little beagle named Elmer. :goodvibes

I used to tease the girls that I wanted to name them Fluffinella - because their daddy wouldn't let me name the cat Fluffinella - but he wouldn't let name them it either, even when I promised to just call them Ella for short.

They would say they were so glad he won :rotfl:

LOLOL.. I thought we were only going to have 1 child and he was a boy. My girl name choice was Cassanda. We got a kitten in 11/98 and named her Cassie. My daughter Cassie was born 9 months later. So the cat and kid have the same name :lmao:

Glad you feel better. :)
I was one who said something about giving girl's strong sounding names. I meant as opposed to *fluffy* names. Eleanor isn't a fluffy name IMHO. I really don't consider those types of names *fluffy*.
I like classic names. Kathleen, Meredith, even Jane. :teeth:
I like Hunter for a girl but if I had a son his name would NOT have been Hunter. It isn't a name I'd pick for a boy.

Different names make life fun. Glad we all aren't Bobs, Bills and Sallys.

:rotfl2: That is the cutest story!!

My DH had always said he wanted to name his son "Buck" :sad2: . That frightened me! So when we got our first little house dog, we named him Buckalew (after the bar on LBI in NJ) because I wanted to name a dog that name and he had a BAD underbite (upside down buck teeth) and DH would "sorta" get nhis wish of a "son" named Buck. (Cause in my opinion, that was as close as he was gonna get to a son named Buck!! :teeth: )

Ok two names I don't like are: Damien, or and I can't think of it off the top of my head, I'm experiencing a tip of the tongue phenomena, the bad kid from the Children of the Corn... starts with an M.

I don't like the names:

Kevin
Christopher
Michael
Matthew
Bruce

Christopher, Matthew and Michael are way to overused in my opinion. Kevin and Bruce I have no explanation for. Of course I think many people dislike my son's name - Nolan. (Which I obviously love)
