names you HATE

I have to just say that there is absolutely NO way that someone won't be offended by a name ....that they have chosen for their child/children.

My name is the #1 dog name for the Dis boards. My son was named Sean over 26 years ago and when we named him we knew of no other child/baby named Sean. He was also named after 3 generations of Sean's.

My mother named me a name that she thought would be easier for me to not only spell but would help me fit in since I was adopted from South Korea in 1959. My given name was Mykunga Sieu.

All I can say is she really tried. :rotfl2: She named me Lauren in 1959 and I never met another Lauren until I went to college and then it seemed as if the name Lauren was coming out of the woodwork in elementary school.

Edited for spelling...yet again.

I have a Matthew and a Jefferey. or Mutt and Jeff. At least they were named in the order of birth. lol Also, Jeff was named after my step-father. I wanted the name, just not the same spelling. Now I wish I had used the geo.

Your name is the #1 dog name? I'm missing something.

My DD's middle name is Lauren. :teeth: Hunter Lauren. And yeah, it'll look good with Dr. in front of it. :rotfl:

2. Cody

You posted about the name Cody at the exact moment that I was having my Cody (see below) put down. It was a cute dog's name.

Our youngest dd is named Teagan. We were looking for another unique and meaninful name. Well, Teagan is Irish and so is my dh's family so we went with it. I love it. It sounds like a girls name to me but the only other Teagans I have ever met are boys.

I went to school with a Teagan many years ago & she was an absolute sweetheart. The name always stuck with me after that because of her. :)

I've never heard of these names being used for girls except for Taylor. But really, Darrell, James, Spencer, etc. for girls????
Actresses with boys names:
Michael Learned: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0495229
Daryl Hannah: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000435/

I also know a woman named Kyle. Not Kylie. Kyle. And her brother's name is Kim. And they are not Asian.
I went to college with a girl named George.
I have a friend (girl) who is named Rand. My ex's sister named her daughter Ryann. My best friend named my Goddaughter Ramsey. I still don't like the name, but I love her! :goodvibes My friend's sister is named Matilie.
I also have an aunt named Jerry. She hates the spelling and uses Jeri instead. :thumbsup2
I also won't be naming a child after my mom - Gladys. Never liked it. And my niece has already used my mom's middle name for a child.

I'm not partial to unisex names like Robin, Jamie, Hayden/Haydan, Mackenzie, Taylor, etc.

But names that I really dislike that I have come across in my years:
Lesbia (girl)
O'D'Angelo (boy)

And I have a whole slew of names I won't name my kids. Mainly because I already have these names in my family and friends, not because I don't like them.

I don't really dislike this, but I don't understand why people name their kids after themselves. This is pretty common with men (jr., II, III etc.) but I also know several women with daughters with the same first name. Why?? I find it really confusing when I call these people's houses. How do I identify the person I want? With a man, I could just say "Could I speak to Ben Jr.?", but with a woman, what do I say? I usually just say "Can I please speak to Melissa?" and then wait for the other person to figure out who I want!! Because really, what do I say? "Can I speak to Melissa, the mom?" or "Can I speak to the older Melissa?" There is no easy way!!

Why not give your child his/her own name?? I was named after my grandmother and it was always very confusing at family gatherings to figure out who they wanted when the name was called out! And that was only a few times a year. I can't imagine living like that every day! Bad enough that my brother's name rhymed with mine, so unless you clearly heard the first letter, again, CONFUSION!!
I so agree. I can understand why you might want to honor a person who is deceased. But to name your child after yourself is trying to make the child too much like you, imo.
When I worked in the state's Vital Records a few years ago, I did see a girl's record who was named after her mom with Jr. added on.

In regards to that, I have a pet peeve about men who name their sons after themselves and then try to add Sr. on to their names. Or people that add Dr., PhD, etc. Yeah. Those are considered titles like Mr. or Miss. I can't tell you how many times I had people trying to get their birth certificates and when they saw them said, but my name is Sr. Sorry, you weren't born with that name.

I have been having a laugh over your child/pet name discussion :rotfl:

I have a
Daisy - DD1
Molly - DD2
Jess - cat
Matilda - rabbit
Ruby - rat

There are loads of dogs/cats called Daisy and Molly !!!

And recently Ruby has become a very popular name here in the UK, and I have found it difficult not to say "Oh, I have a rat called Ruby" while peering into the pram at baby Ruby!!!

It would be boring if we all liked the same names wouldn't it? :confused3

Jen (Jennifer full name, Jen for short, but i DON'T like being called Jenny!!) :thumbsup2

Sadie is the #1 name for dogs unless it has moved down recently. ;)

I was in the military with a person named Dr. Doctor and she had to endure endless comments in regards to her name.

Your daughter's name will sound very nice with Doctor in front. It has a very nice ring to it, if I do say so myself. :teeth:

Always thought it was a little weird that Donald Trump and first wife Ivana named their kids Donald and Ivanka. :confused3 I worked with a woman whose husband's name was Bill and her name was Angela...their kids were Billy and Angelina. :confused3

I hesitated to name my DD with an M name because my name is MaryAnn...didn't like repeating the "M". Then there are those families where all the kids names start with the same letter...like the Duggars...16 kids (last I heard  ) all starting with "J". I call each of my 3 kids by the others'...or the dog's...names as it is; can't imagine how the Duggar parents ever get it right.

My daughters name is Jasmine and if someone I knew wanted to name their dog Jasmine I would find it kinda cool. Many may think that is wierd but I'm a huge dog lover so I would in no way think of it as an insult. If someone really loves a name, go ahead and give it to the new addition to your family - person or pet. BTW - I have always liked Nicki; it's a great name for either a puppy or a little girl. My dogs name is Sadie and I told my daughter if she ever has a little girl of her own, she could name her Sadie. She completely thought I was nuts. :lmao:
My dad's dog is named Jasmine! :thumbsup2

I'm not trying to make Russ like the previous Russ's - but maybe it's different when you get to #4? By this point, it's a nice family tradition that we wanted to continue for my father (since he had only girls.) Also, my Russ is the only one with red hair, which is what Russell means. :)

Argh! I don;t care if people do this, but as someone who has had to live with the father/son combo my whole life it is VERY annoying to me.
My brother and Dad are both Don(not sr/jr,they have different middle names)..and I'd answer the phone..is Don there?
Do you want my brother or my father?

My FIL and my husband are both James(different middle names) and we share a 2 family house, so same address, even though different phone numbers..but I get calls for my FIL all the time.
My husband uses his middle initial for everything so we know when mail comes who it's for.
Mail gets mixed up still-our credit reports are always wrong..once my husband had an Amex opened in 1975 on his report, I sent in a correction-they sent it back saying thety had looked into it and it was not wrong, so I called and told them my husband was 8 and I don;t think was allowed to open credit cards. LOL
The good news is the sons always had a different nickname when they were little. Don v. Donnie and Jim v. Jimmy so that cit down on the confusion at home.

My DH definately did not want a son named James, so we gave it to our son as his middle name, which I think is perfect. :thumbsup2

We have a Matthew which as someone pointed out is very popular, but there's a reason it's so popular, it's because it's a good name. LOL ;)
I don't care if people like it or don't-I don't like every name either, so it doesn't offend me in the least. :)
