We are a family of 5 & I am trying to figure out if the Dining option would be worth doing. I am not sure if I am doing this right so I'd like some advice.

A "sample" day at MGM...

Sci Fi Diner
Appetizer for 2 adults $11
Dinner for 2 adults $28
Kids meal for 3 kids $15
Drinks for 2 adults $ 4
Dessert for 5 $25 ($5 each) I assume the kids each get a dessert from the adult menu since there is no desserts on the kids menu?

That totals to $83 before tax & tip...is that right???

A Counter service breakfast would come to $26.50

5 snacks would be $10 so a grand total for breakfast at abc comm, snacks, & dinner at Sci Fi would be approx $120...

The cost for us 5 on the dining plan is $100 so we'd save $20 a day for 9 days or $180 for the trip...does that sound right? Seems like a good deal.

What do you think?

Don't forget the MYW meals include tax AND tip (which comes to close to 25% of the bill!!) and the kids also get to order drinks, appetizers and deserts....at the sit down meal and a desert at the counter service (if it is not included with the kids meal)....so actually you would come out even better than you figured.

Also Sci-Fi diner would be one of the least expensive options...as is the breakfast option you listed....so I think you will come out substantially better than your $180 savings for the week!!

The way we are going to use the myw dining plan is to buy breakfast since we know we can get away with paying less than lunch or dinner (that's our "theory" anyway). Our daughter is 3yrs old and will ultimately eat off my plate most of the time anyway. We will use our "counter service" meals for lunch and will use our "sit-down" meals for the character dinners...then there's the snack daily!

Soooooooo...in using our meal plan towards the more expensive meals (lunch & dinner) we figure the savings to be quite good.

Also, I read that you can purchase $5 meal vouchers in AK??? I think they are for lunch (kids happy meal?). I don't really know too much about them, and would like to find out if you can use them for breakfast. That would tremendously help with the cost of breakfast!

Just another quick note...

You can use the "sit-down" meal for Character Dining. The Signature Restaurants or dinner shows charge TWO "sit-down" meals. We are sticking with the Character Dining since we all have kids.

I think you'll save even more once you figure tax and tip, plus I think the snacks are at least $3.00 each.

This will be our first experience with the meal plan, but I calculated a savings of almost $400 for our family of 4. Of course we are doing a character meal every day.

I'm only sorry it doesn't include the fantasmic dinner package.

SarahandHannahsmom,

I read on this thread that for an added $10 you could do the Fantasmic Pkg if you are on the dining plan. Call and check it out.

We used the $10 upcharge on the Fantasmic pkg at Hollywood & Vine.

Your children don't have to eat off the "kid's menus" at the counter serve locations either, a bonus for my "picky" son.

We had 2 adults & 1 child and used the plan once at breakfast, thought lunch was a much better value.

In the MK we had lunch at Columbia Harbor House, over $ 40
dinner at Cinderells's $117

And we way too stuffed to eat any snacks that day. We are hardy eaters, but got to the point where we skipped breakfast, ate an early lunch 11:00 a.m. and then had dinner after 5:30 p.m.

Several nights we took popcorn back to the room for a snack and bottled water.

I had reservations about the plan working out, but I'm hooked to the point where I'm going to book a Land/Sea Cruise separately just to be able to purchase the dining plan.

What exactally is the Fantasmic Package and how does it work? It is $10 more per person? What are you getting that makes it so great?

Thanks!

The fantasmic dinner package is a package that includes a reserved seating area at fantasmic. Rather than waiting for 2 hours, for the show, you can get there, about 1/2 hour before, and be seated in a special section, left of center. Fairly decent seats. The package is available at MM, BD, and H&V. It is a set price, that includes appetizer, and dessert.

There are now reports that it can be used, w/ my way dining, which is different than the info given out a few weeks ago, and very good news.

As with dining plans, vouchers, etc.....
You also have to figure if you were just ordering on a normal meal....would everyone order an appetizer, their own entree, dessert, etc.
So how much are you saving if you wouldn't have ordered all that food to begin with.
Now for vouchers we could just use one and split, but dining plan, everyone gets so much!
