Mystery at Sea

cruise ships sailing to Alaska do not need to be built in any special way safety-wise. many lines sail many different ships there every year. one item that is a comfort-only issue is DCL's lack of enclosed pools. many of the ships that sail there do not have enclosed pools. we sailed Celebrity's Mercury to Alaska several years ago, with no enclosed pools. out on decks there were beautiful wool deck blankets instead of towels available. so that alone would not preclude an Alaskan voyage for DCL. to solve the non-US port issue on an Alaskan cruise, a stop in British Columbia wold fit the bill. in Hawaii, a stop at fanning island is what other lines do to fill the requirements.

Okay, here is my thought after looking at the Lats & Longs on the maps. On the Mystery @ Sea Page, the numbers given are for NYC first and then CC. Could they be planning on departing from NYC, going to CC, and then sailing across the mid-atlantic to Europe? :confused3

One reason I think this might be the case is that, as others have mentioned, a trans-atlantic crossing across the norther route can be rather rough at times. Dad spent too many years in the Navy and told me too many stories about large waves in the N. Atlantic. Why would DCL risk it?

Obviously, this would be an interesting route to travel. So, the mystery continues!

Okay, I still do not understand at all why they have the Alaska
Long/Lat??? :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

Has anyone else thought about the dates with the Long/Lat?

Feb 27th - New York City
March 8th - Castaway Cay
March 10th - Alaska

BTW, I also took the Mercury in Alaska as well as Mexican Riverera and it actually does have an indoor pool. It is at the very back of the ship on the Lido deck and actually served food there as well.

The story in Italy is that Queen Margarita was visiting a restaurant and the chef cooked a pizza (one of the first ones). The queen was so impressed that she asked what it was called. The chef, being clever, said, "It is named for you my queen, a Margarita Pizza."

Does this make sense?

I sure do hope that disney will soon have cruises that leave from the west coast, Alaska or Hawaii would be great.

changing this one:

the postcard with the monkey - on Gibralter there are monkeys that looks very much like the one in the picture - the Barbary Macaque ..

Gibralter is at the Strait of Gibralter that links the Atlantic to the Mediterranean...

also regarding the coffee clue - although i still think it means Italy - Turkish coffee is made by boiling it in that way.....although i can't imagine they'll get all the way over to Turkey.....that's way in the Eastern Mediterranean.....

The first encoded riddle about the Queen just loving the pizza followed by a picture from the Rock of Gilbralter clearly represents the entrance to the Mediterranean sea. Gilbralter is a colony of the United Kingdom (subjects of the Queen).

What I thought was even more interesting was the annotated reference to a ships position using Latitude and Longitude on the chart. The coordinates for the February date are the passenger terminal piers on the west side of Manhattan, while the second set of coordinates are for Castaway Cay.

Distance between the points is 1003.9249 statute miles. The dates don't make nautical sense because if you apply the math (minimum of seven days between the dates) a vessel would need to average only 6Mph to get between the points in this time... Not very economical or interesting... The locations though leave a lot to the imagination.

I'll bet the Repo cruise for the Med. departs NY and goes to Castaway Cay and then on to the Med! It's either that or they're just messing with us because they can!!!

Dear DCL (if you read these boards, and we KNOW you do! :cool1: ),

We LOVE the Mystery at Sea!!! It is so much fun and definitely builds the excitement. We are not very patiently waiting for March 21st (and march 28 and April 4 and ... summer 2007!!!) So Thanks for all the fun! Now, hopefully, these wonderful (I mean Magical) cruises will not be priced out of our range (please!).

But thanks again, for all the fun!

Sincerely,
CACruisin' and family

Okay I'm following this mystery with great interest, I agree the postcard is Gibralter I have been there many times,
I was stumped by the new coordinates being in Alaska but I've just uncovered a little more info. They are the coordinates of Mt Edgecombe in Alaska which was named by Captain Cook after Mount Edgecombe in ......wait for it Plymouth England!
I'm still rooting for a Med cruise and if the Magic docks at a British Port I'll be over the moon!!!!

I think all the buzz is about something we just heard about from a crew member on our cruise last week. He said DCL is in the process of moving the actual pirate ship used in Pirates of the Carribean to Castaway Cay where they would turn it into a museum. Only time will tell.....

WOW!!! If there was any doubt in my DH's mind to go again in 08 this would surely seal the deal if it was true!!! That's the best "rumor" on this thread I heard. NO desire to sail Med. at all & NYC too close to get all hyped up over here about. I'll keep my Carribean cruises, thanks!!! Now if they could just get Johnny Depp on CC we would be ALL set pirate: !!! LOL!!! We'll just all have to wait & see!!!

With the Alaska clue, I know this is farfetched.... but could it be possible that DCL will announce two new itineraries..... Summer of 2007 - The Med and Summer of 2008 -Alaska!!

Hubby and I were just saying the same thing about different itineraries.

You are right with the Itineraries. Summer of '07, Europe with 10 and 11 nights. And in Summer of '08, Alaska with 7 nights round trip from Vancouver, BC.

Could they be planning on departing from NYC, going to CC, and then sailing across the mid-atlantic to Europe?
LOL, DH thinks this is probable only if Goofy is driving the ship (think: pictures on the wall in Ocean Quest). :teeth: :goofy:
