My windshield washer fluid is frozen. How do I thaw it?

This has never happened to me. Even growning up in MN which is bitterly cold all winter.

I have never added it. I have a Saturn, and the dealer always fills it every 3 months when I take it in for service. I thought it might be empty, and added some this morning. Since there was only room for a few onces, it wasn't empty.

I don't have a garage, so it's parked outside. This morning, I parked it in the sun. Maybe that will help?? Even when I've driven it for 30 minutes, it still is frozen....... :guilty:

I buy the Prestone Deicer washer fluid, it hasn't frozen on me yet. It worked yesterday morning at 2 degrees.

I would call your dealer for advice. Hopefully they don't put straight water in it.

I agree buy some De-icing windsheild fluid the straight stuff freezes at these temps I use Rain-ex brand but anyone is good.

You never had it happen in Minnesota, because most of the stuff sold in Minnesota is rated for 20-30 below zero temps.

They probably put water in it when they've refilled it. I found a dealer I went to doing that. Just leave it alone as opposed to adding water!!!

Sometimes the antifreeze element in the solution can evaporate in the lines if not used too much, plus at times the nozzles can freeze up (same basic reason), even with correct solution. Some time in the sun, even on a frigid day, can help much.

You can put isopryl alcohol in there to help thaw it out.

Happened to us when we went to Jiffu Lube in NC and then drove to Maine. I think they may have either watered down the fluid or put in fluid not rated for low temps. I have never had that problem with any fluid I put in myself.

BTW, we use RainX too, it is amazing!

Denae

It may be only frozen in the nozzle. Sometimes it helps to put your windshield defroster on high for awhile. That can loosen things up (if your sprayer is in the wiper itself).

That's what I was thinking, the nozzle may be frozen.... rain/snow could have frozen in there. I put water in my tea kettle until it's almost boiling and pour it on

the easiest and safest way to thaw it is to use a hair dryer, start at the spray nozzles and work your way back the lines to the reservoir..

keep checking every few minutes, that way you'll know where it was frozen
