my honest review of Port Orleans Riverside

Okay, I take back anything I may have said in defense of Riverside.

We are there now, having the worst experience traveling anywhere, let alone in all of our times staying in WDW.

After I find out whether our luggage (ALL of our luggage) was stolen or just lost (and I am praying VERY hard for the latter!) and whether or not they are going to somehow resolve our HDD res that we will now miss, and what they are going to do about the whole room fiasco, I will go into more detail.

Had a great late night in the MK last night (first day down here), but I saw the look on my wife's face just now and the tears in the kids' eyes and I just don't anticipate ANY more magic during this trip.

Regardless, Riverside is dead to me. :(

I wouldn't be so quick to throw Disney under the bus when it comes to your luggage. Could very well be a airline screw up.

And while I don't know what is going on with your room (I'm hoping it isn't too horrible) please make sure you are ready to accept any magic that may come your way, that you are not so sure the rest of the trip will stink that you don't make that come true. I wish you all of the best for the rest of your vacation!!

No airline involved, we drive here.

The luggage was room to room in the same resort... somehow disappeared of the face of the earth after bell secs picked it up.

Oh no! Keep us posted. Hope it doesn't spoil your whole vacation.

:faint: Wow, that is not good!!I hope they find it soon, and send some extra pixie dust your way!

I would be furious. that is awful. I really hope this is all resolved to your satisfaction. I have noticed that it doesn't always seem to be the case at first but Disney usually comes through in the end.

I can understand why a resort wouldn't appeal to you after that occurred regardless if its really resort specific or not.

I have to say that neither port orleans resorts have ever appealed to me. They seem to get so much positive attention on here though. We have not ever stayed at a moderate but we visited port orleans in march to do the pirate cruise and I didn't see anything that would get me to stay there. just my personal opinion.

Okay, may have to take back my take back... but please understand that my first post above was after almost 3 hours of trying to resolve things.

Luggage has been located and returned, room issues finally resolved, HDD pushed back to the later show so we wouldn't miss it, and they are generally trying their best to make it "right."

That kind of effort goes a long way with me.

We lost most of today dealing with it all, but we still have several more days here and today was mostly a rest and recovery day anyway... really only missed out on spending the afternoon at Typhoon Lagoon.

Glad things are looking up! :thumbsup2 Enjoy the rest of your vacation. :goodvibes

I think it is a lovely resort! I love the rooms and decor. Bus service has always been terrific during my 4 recent trips there. But I think they are resting on their laurels a bit, and I have noticed very unfriendly help at the food court and rather bored, disinterested, and never going out of their way to help staff at check in. The bell staff and gift shop staff were very good though. :confused3

I was about to tell you to take a deep breath and look at it again a day later. This was mainly learnt from my experiences on this thread. Our family were tired and worn out due to the travel and I very much reacted when I started this thread. In the end, we loved the POR. All the CM'S were fantastic, with the exception of one, I've sent you a PM on this. BUT, your issues seem to have resolved itself. I'm pleased for you.
My advise, chill and have a fantastic remaining time.

But this thing when I asked for a spare dish to share some of my salad with one of my children, she just starred through me, no reply, no "sorry I didn't understand", nothing. .... My wife (red head, mess with her at your own risk) asked for a spare dish, this CM just starred at her, almost with an anger on her face. My wife knowing what I'd seen over the last week or so, was prepared. So instead of trying to be polite and asking or explaining again, just starred back and said nothing. The CM after what seemed to be 20/30 seconds, just didn't move her stare from directly in my wife's eyes, slowly put her hand on top of the dish, left it there for another 10/15 seconds, picked it up and gave it to my wife. Absolutely no conversation at all.

Bizarre.

While I haven't seen a manager at POR (though I haven't looked for one, either), I've seen them roaming fodcourts before. One at AOA materialized when DS dropped his plate our first time there. At an All Star I needed some help and a manager was right there. If I had a problem at the foodcourt, I'd get a manager at the foodcourt, right then and there, personally.

No airline involved, we drive here.

So what happened, now that we know it was resolved? Where did it go?

They had put our luggage in the room that they first said they were moving us to (the very first place I asked them about when it went missing, FTR) but then said we couldn't have, then told us they gave it to another guest already. Had it not been for the honest family who called and told them there was strange luggage in their room when they first checked in (hours after we were told we couldn't have it, BTW) we still wouldn't know where it was because bell svcs apparently had no record of picking it up nor putting it anywhere.

Things have gotten better and we are enjoying ourselves. HS all day yesterday, and now we are waiting for a bus to Epcot (have a pre-opening res at Akershus, my kids always love the PSB).
