After my DH spoke with the computer experts at work, we just did a Lavasoft Ad-Aware ad on to try and remove it and it is still there, even after following all the instructions!

DH is going to try one more thing, then he's giving up!

We're probably going to end up uninstalling everything (after backing everything up ofcourse) and putting everything back on.

This is a tough one folks. :sad2:

Have you tried Spysweeper?

I've also found that with some things the only way to get rid of them was to use a program (like spysweeper or adaware) to find out where the files actually were, then reboot, get into MSDOS and delete the files from there.

VX2 is a nasty bugger, that's for sure. Download the latest version of Ad Aware, and get the latest update for it. Then, go to the plugins section of their website, and download the VX2 Plugin. Run the plug-in, then run Ad Aware. That should take care of it.

We do have the latest version of Ad-Aware SE and dowloaded the VX2 Cleaner ad on, but it keeps coming back! I've found lots people on different Tech Support forums who are also having a hard time getting rid of it.

DH will work on it some more tomorrow morning. He's thrown in the towel for the night!

I have been dealing with a spyware and browser hijack mess all day today. Some one suggested the new Microsoft antispyware program. it's being beta tested and is free. It did a better job than both adaware and spybot. Good luck.

Boot into DOS? What the heck? Still using Windows 98?

Want to :rotfl2: I still use Windows 95! My computer does everything I need it to do so I never saw a reason to update anything. I still have dial-up for the internet too. I see no reason to waste my money on updating anything when my Gateway is still running great.

Run the new Microsoft Anti Spyware software. Free on their site. It finds much more than Ad-Aware and Spybot combined.

Well that makes perfect sense :earboy2:

Just struck me as odd, because dos has been pretty much eliminated in XP ;)

Nothing has worked so far. We have 22 files or whatever they're called of this VX2 thing. DH is going to wipe everything off the hard drive/system and reload everything. Luckily he can do this and we don't have to take it in to be fixed! It's just time consuming.

What a PITA!

Blondie, I use a combination of Ad-aware SE Plus, SpySweeper (both the pay-for versions) and MS's beta, all active, running constant in the background. And a Spybot S7D sweep maybe once a week (never picks up any additional). MS's is pretty good, IMO, and SpySweeper does get some tough ones to prevent. Good wishes.

I too will be restoring mine soon (keep procrastinating, LOL), as Norton has trashed too many things for me.

My DH has everyone beat. He's still using Windows 3.1.

and I just downloaded the MS spyware thing..it didn't pick up anything that spysweeper hadn't found..so I am gonna continue using both for now

for the recommendation on the Mircosoft antispyware downloaded last night I love it! Already use adaware and spybot so it only found 6 but they were real BADDIES!

thanks again guys!

I guess he's a "retro" kinda guy.

No, I'm using XP.

I didn't say boot into DOS, I said Reboot, and then get into DOS. I suppose one really should go into msconfig first to minimize the things that are starting up when the computer boots. Although yes you actually can skip the XP system when booting to go directly into DOS (don't ask me how, I know I had to do it about 6 months ago).

XP may be significantly more powerful and functional than the previous operating systems, but there are still some files that you can't find using it. Even when I tell it to show hidden files, it still won't show some of these spyware ones. They know how to hide them well.

I can fix stuff like that, but I am never sure how I do it... I get in and start working, and I never pay much attention to where I go and what I click, But somehow, I seem to fix it... Lol I don't know if it is a good thing or a bad thing...

I don't get that... I have my stepdad's computer all on the latest stuff. He has XP, Wireless DSL, a bran new IBM, a new browser thingy...(Mozilla FireFox) and he is behind two fire walls, and a router! He is untraceable, I could take over the world from that computer! (not that i am trying! lol) But i can't stand it when you have great hardware and you are working with dinosaurs!!! and 3.1, My god!... lol... I am really impaitent...
