Multiple Resorts, One Visit

I'm so glad I read this thread. We have a split stay coming up and I need to move one dinner.

Quick question...okay, if your credits come on your Key to the World card....Check in may not be until 4. Can you go early and get your cards so that you can access your new credits on transfer day?

:surfweb:

Yes, you can check-in as early as you want to - you'll just have to call back for your room number. We usually pick up our KTTW w/DDP around 8-9am and use them all day.

We do this all the time. Sometimes to save points or just because we fancy something different. One holiday we moved 5 times! Mind you it was over 3 weeks. Now we only move once, we usually start the holiday off at a resort with a studio and then move to a 1 bed in OKW. This Christmas we are splashing out and having 3 nights in 1 bed AKLV Con level followed by 15 nights in OKW. Also it is hard go from a 1 bed to a studio, it is better to get bigger. We also pack in such a way that only one of the bags has to be opened, so we don't fully unpack. For us it makes the holiday seem longer.

We split the stay last February and we had the yogurts, milk etc for the kids. We went to the WinnDixie that is just down the road and purchased a stryofoam cooler for about $5. We packed the dry stuff up and put all of the dairy in the cooler and put it in our rental car with us while we were between resorts. I didn't want to take the chance that it would be sitting out somewhere and get spoiled. We wound up leaving the cooler in the room at the end of the stay because we obviously couldn't bring it on the plane.

Our 1st split stay will be from BWV (2/9-2/16) to BCV (2/16-2/22). Unfortunately we will go from a 2BR BW view to a 1BR at BCV. They had no more 2BR at BCV. I hope we don't feel squooshed after having the big 2BR for the first week!

My question is will they keep your cold food refrigerated during the move from 1 resort to the next? I am sure we will have some stuff left after the first week.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: I hope that "fun and adventurous" means your DH will be helping with the packing & unpacking and the kids (who are very cute, BTW).

I'm looking forward to hearing how this all works out for your family. I wouldn't want to move with younger children - being without a room can be a pain.

:rotfl:
I hope so too..... we'll see. I am not going to stress about it. He is really good with the kids...better than any father I have ever met. Still, I am sure I will be doing most of the packing up and he'll do all of the moving.

Those homeless periods between resorts is what gets me. We're a "get up early, go to a park, leave around lunchtime" family. So, if the room isn't ready to move back into at lunchtime, we're not happy. And the odds of the room being ready at lunchtime are not that good. So we hunker in and stay in one place for the entire trip.

We did do four resorts in one trip once. Never again. Two nights Coronado Springs (and we had to change rooms those two nights), three nights Doubletree Guests Suites (Hilton Honors discount and tickets to Seaworld), three nights AKL (did the Sunrise Safari) and four nights at BCV. In the middle of this trip, we had to pick up our niece at MCO since she was joining us for the last week of the trip. No more resort hopping for us. We've been going DVC for nearly 10 years now and we've found plenty of time to "try out" resorts.

As you can see by my signature below we often do split stays to save on weekend points. I actually like the split stays. In 2005 we went for 16 nights and split between All Star sports for 2 nights, BCV for 10 nights, and ended with AKL for the last 4 nights. It was awesome!

We are doing our first split stay this Aug. We are driving this year, so I thought that it was a good time to try a split stay. I can't wait to try all of the DVC resorts, this way I get to accomplish my goal sooner. We are usually up early to do the parks. After reading this thread I will make sure that we sleep late on the days that we are moving because I never thought about the new room not being ready.

we are splitting our stay on our trip, 7 nights at the Boardwalk (1 bed), 1 night at Royal Pacific at Universal, and then 6 nights at Wilderness Lodge (1 bed).

We are doing it for 2 reasons, we needed one night offsite as we didnt' have enough points for the full 2 weeks, and we want to try as many resorts as possible. We also think it will give us the feeling of 2 different vacations.

We have moved in the past, although not since we had our 2nd child, but I think the key is not having too much stuff! Which is definitely easier said than done. Since we will have the washer and dryer in the room I am hoping we can manage with a smaller amount of clothes, and it will make it easier to pack and move everything.

Well, March 2006, we split. but not between two DVCs. We stayed a POP and then at the BCV. it was a question of shortage of points and budget. I personally like seeing different resorts. It was fun and since it was just ONE change it wasn't a hassle. Bell services also made it a breeze to transfer.

NEXT trip ( 2008 ) we will be splitting again because we didn't have enough points to stay the length of stay we wanted at BCV. I haven't booked the second resort yet. But we're booked for our BCV ( home resort ) days and will be staying at either AKV ( not much chance, but trying it anyway ), BWV or OKW, depending where we can get room. *fingers crossed*

It's our first DVC trip coming up and we are staying a few DVC resorts in 3 weeks, see my signature below:)
I really want to try as many of the resorts as I can to see which ones I like the best.
We have no small children, so moving won't be a problem.
For us part of the excitement of the trip is moving to a different resort.
Next year we will be doing the same thing only hopefully staying at the resorts we have missed this year.

Will Disney move your bags for you to another resort if you are not a DVC member? I've got a trip planned this December where I'm going to need to move twice - starting out at Pop, moving to Contemporary (where my business will be paying for my stay while I'm at a conference!), and then back to Pop. I never realized they offered this service!

Yes, they will move your bags for any resort, it's not specific to DVC

We have done this several times but have always had a rental car so it was easy- my husband doesn't like changing resorts but I don't mind. He was not with us the whole trip this past Christmas when we stayed at 3 different resorts. The first 5 nights were OKW 2 BR with 4 people. Then 2 nights off site with 2 and lastly SSR in a studio with 3. I checked into SSR on NYE at about 7:30 am and left the luggage and food with bell services because I needed to return the rental car and did not want to leave the park once we got there. DH got the luggage when he arrived and was able to get into the room around 2 in the afternoon. We did pack a smaller bag for the middle two days so could leave the rest in the car. I am currently deciding on what to do for our upcoming trip where we will have an SSR studio the first two nights and then a 2 bedroom OKW for 5 nights. So far the car rental rates have been a little steep but think I will get one anyway. I looked at one for the moving day and then again for the return to airport day and it was almost the same as for the whole week so why waste time picking up and returning cars. We definitely pack lighter and do laundry as we go so are putting things back in the suitcase as we go and then it is only a few things to pack up the last minute before changing resorts. We also plan a more relaced day for the day we are moving- this time it is a water park day, at Christmas it was a DTD shoppping and a nice meal day. It is definitely a good way to try out the different resorts and or save points depending on which resorts you are staying at.

We change resorts mid-stay quite frequently (and this is with three young kids!). We really like doing it because then it feels like your vacation is just starting all over again. The kids love having a new pool, a new resort to explore, etc.

As for packing mid-way, yes it can be a pain, but it depends on how much you spread out. Our big key is that we simply don't bring a lot b/c of the washer dryer right in the room--it cuts way down on the amount of "stuff" we bring.

Finally, as others have said, do it on a park day so that it does not matter if you are "homeless" for a few hours. And definitely, on your way to the park in the morning, check in at the new resort. That way, when you are ready to go home, you are already checked in and can really do that...just go home.
