You'll defintely find more inexpensive apartments in the suburbs like Kissimmee etc.

How do we feel about Maitland? I'm willing to pay a few extra bucks for something nice... and I understand Celebration is not the most gay-friendly part of town? Too family oriented?

Where will you be working? Maitland is way across town from WDW via I-4 which should be avoided at ALL COSTS! Maitland to WDW at least 45 minutes on a good day!

Celebration non gay friendly? Hmmmm Thats a new one on me. :confused3

Hunter's Creek is a nice area to start looking. Davenport, Clermont, Haines City are growing like crazy, these are just west of WDW.

That is excellent info on Maitland - many thanks :thumbsup2

Someone told me the other day that Celebration was too family oriented for gays. Not sure how they made that assumption.....

I will be working near Currency Drive, which is apparently in Southern Orlando. Kinda looking for a place near to there and to WDW where I won't deal with much rush hour.

Thanks again!! Help is appreciated!:scared:

Honestly, Celebration is too family oriented for me, and I'm straight. It's just downright creepy, but then I've never been into the whole Pleasantville, Stepford-wives thing. To drive through there one morning and watch all the little blond girls and boys with bowl cuts riding their bikes to the school has to be seen to be believed. It's an Aryan supremacist's dream come true. And the blond soccer moms hold hands with the younger blond kids and walk them to the school. Brrrrr....

We're in the 4 Corners area, because it's cheap. I have a friend who lives in Cagan Crossings & has a 2 story townhome for less than I pay, though! They've got a lot of new construction there, and they're trying to fill up the apartments.

Cheers!

Hahaha! Thanks for the advice...it's funny...every person I speak to compares it to the Stepford Wives......I'm tempted to move into the area, hoist a rainbow flag, start a Wiccan church and open a strip bar for black communists :lmao:

One of my very good friends is black and lives there with her also black boyfriend.

She'd probably love it if you did that, even though she isnt a communist (or wiccan I don't think hehe)

Maitland??....ewwww!

I had a house in Celebration, and there is A LOT more gays living there than you would think! But the thing with Celebration is that there is not alot going on inside Celebration.

Like the Publix is across the street in tourist hell!!

Well, I'm back from two weeks in O-town. Had a really great time, hung out with cast member friends of my partner. They sure know how to party! We went to a taping of TNA Wrestling at Universal, at the behest of my partner. We stood three hours in a tiny corral waiting to get in. I wasn't pleased. However I enjoyed the wrestling more than I thought I would. They had a coffin-match, which was very lame. To win you had to slam the opponent into the coffin.

Other things I noticed spending my time outside the world was the Orlando Alehouse, great place. Dragon Court Oriental Buffet by the Crossroads, best fried dumplings ever. The sheer amount of tacky giftshops and "welcome centers" *cough* timeshare *cough cough* really got my attention. Honestly the city is much cleaner than Indianapolis. Oh, and everyone and their brother had a "now hiring" sign up.

Anyways, we had narrowed it down to two places on south I-Drive and finally picked the one we wanted with the CM discount it's about $920 including the pet fee, nice pool with a fountain in it. And it's very, very close to WDW property.

Hey!

Watch how you throw around the word "tacky" around here! :lmao:

Some of our best attractions are at best "tacky".

(See Gatorland, Old Town, and any gift shop on 192 for more info)

Welcome to Orlando!!!!

Where'd you pick to live? Those orange-ish apartment buildings right near SeaWorld?

My youngest daughter and new son in law are moving down next month. They rented an apt close to Full Sail School, where he will be attending classes. I'm hoping one of you local DISers will allay my fears about the escalating crime I've been hearing about in the Orlando area. Now mind you, living right across the lake from New Orleans, we aren't easily scared by crime. We know what areas to avoid. But we don't know much about Orlando except it has Magic in the air!!! So, please, how bad is the area around Full Sail??

Thanks,
Darlene

Looks like it's in Winter Park. If thats the case the only thing you have to worry about is someone cutting in line in front of you at Starbucks! Very nice safe area!

LOL yea, from what I've seen, should be fine. :-)

Started packing now, and I have less than four weeks left at my current job. Will be starting with Disney real soon!

Gonna work attractions, then transfer into Guest Relations. Until I finish my degree in Tourism Management. At least, that's the plan now. :cool1:

You will have fun! But remember, it's almost summer.

Attractions equals long hours doing the same thing, over and over, in the heat.

Just remember "We work while you play" and you will be fine!

Good Luck

LOL!! Thanks, OrlandoMike. I'm very relieved to know that they'll have to look out for the line-cutters at Starbucks!!!

They left this morning to head down there. Joe will be at Disney Casting tomorrow to attend the Traditions class. He will be working part time, (I think on the weekends) at POFQ. So in a few weeks if you're around POFQ and you see a goofy looking dude in the gift shop, Jow from New Orleans, stop and say hello!

Well...the company I was working for denied my transfer request at the last minute. So....I called my boss something you wouldn't hear on the Disney channel and found a new job. They have several openings in Orlando - but I have to wait 6 months to apply for a transfer. :sad2: So here I sit holding my breathe and turning blue
