Has anybody every used their mother's maiden name on the internet for any reason? I was thinking of setting up a my space account that way so only people who really know me could find me. Is this a good idea?

Personally I would say no. Lots of places use your mother's maiden name as a form of ID. But that's just my opinion.

I was going to say the same thing.. Perhaps it would be safer to use her middle name - or something of that nature..

I don't use her name, no.

But how would that let only the people who really know you find you? How would they know to look for you under her maiden name? It seems you can easily enough make pages private, so they have to request that you add them, which seems a good way to keep private.

Yeah..I agree...using your Mother's Maiden name could leave you open to Identity theft. And Thinking about it, even most of my close friends wouldn't know her maiden name anyway.

I don't need or want anyone, employers, etc. to read my opinion. Cuz, sometimes, I, like most Americans, speak ill of my employer.

But my real name would be far easier to find and then steal my identity with. I guess I need more reasons that this is a bad idea.

perhaps you could use it and then use your SSN as your password? just a thought.

I use my mothers maiden name all the time.... but because its my middle name! Don't know why they did that to me (since its a boys name) but they did!
