Most romantic value resort???

We've been there during Value and Peak season and it's not that much busier than elsewhere.

I agree with the poster that said Romance is something that you can create anywhre!! this is soooo true!1

we were there during Hurricane Frances and propped open the door to our room and dragged the chairs out to the balcony and joined all our neighbors in watching the storm. There was occasional conversation, but mainly everyone watching. DH had his arm around me and we each had a glass of champagne in hand and it still remains one of the most romantic moments i can remember :)

We were at POP in May and it was very busy, BUT we never had to wait for our food, housekeeping or any other service there. The resort is built to not feel crowded. With the building layout, lake, walkway and extensive landscaping, it really buffered the number of people. Early Feb is very slow and I know several who go that week for exactly that reason. They won't consider any other time.

OT: Now i have another month to consider vacationing in :) Thanks for the February reviews

That is not all of February.....you get close to the President Day/Week off and it can be quite crowded. We did it once and never again !

We have been able to get some excellent rates at the WDW Swan (Westin) & Dolphin (Sheraton) which are both adult oriented resorts, quieter, with interior corridors like all of the Disney deluxe resorts, heavenly beds, frequent upgrades (especially if you join the free Starwood Preferred Guests program), great service (My DH & I have received special treats on last 2 visits for birthday & anniversary - free complimentary towncar service for a tour, bottle of champagne & card sent to the room, etc..), great restaurants (Palio's at the Swan, Blue Zoo at the Dolphin), 24 hr room service, a fitness room, beautiful pools, a wonderful spa (Mandara Spa), walking distance to the Boardwalk & Epcot World Showcase, etc...

We recently went on a TravelZoo rate of $139/night & have booked another TravelZoo special rate of $149/night for end of Sept/beginning of October. The hotels also offer special rates for teachers, nurses, govt workers, ? military. For an additional $ 50-60/night (if you can find a good deal for your time frame). You might book a value resort & just keep checking to see if a special becomes available for the Swan/Dolphin if you are at all interested.

If you decide to stay at Pop which is a fun resort try to set aside a little time to go over to Music and revisit the garden.

Then PM me and let me know your true thoughts.

I am very curious to find out why so many think Pop is quiet and romantic.
The time I went to visit it was full of children having lots of fun which made me smile and think what a fun resort it was. I just can't picture it as quiet.

I will visit again in September and really try to view it as quiet.

Did you read the Just Back from the POP - AKA "Vegas for Kids"

That is the way I felt when I visited like it non stop action from morning till midnight.

Please let us know how much you enjoy trip.
I wish you much happinessand a wonderful vacation!

We have all had our experiences which vary from each other....my last trip to POP was extremely peaceful even during a busy time, which was enhanced by the lake, bridge and space throughout the resort. Most times when we walked out of our room there wasn't another soul in sight, anywhere.

My experience at ASMu was the opposite. The hotel was full of cheerleaders, hundreds of them. They cheered outside the rooms all hours of the night. The food court was not even approachable for all the kids, so we had to eat elsewhere. I felt like the resort should have booked families away from these girls as they know what they are like. It was not good customer service and made for an unpleasant trip for us there. Being that groups do book the All Stars as part of their packages, both my kids have stayed there with school in Feb & March, I would chose POP in hopes that it would be quieter.

Thank you for your response.

I have never stayed at Disney when a large school group was there. When DH and I chaperoned DD and DS's High School Marching Band in Febuary of 1999 we stayed at Doubletree Suites and our practice field was away from the hotel.

BTW I found a couple of quotes indicating Pop Warner Cheerleaders leaders stayed at Pop Century in @00$.

They certainly didn't take over the resort, but Pop definitely took some "spill over". So to say they won't at all effect Pop I think is false. We didn't use the Food Court in the AM, so that wasn't an issue. They were at the pool late night (being a little wild...I agree just kids being kids), after my kids were in bed, (I only saw them when I was doing laundry). Since their schedules keep them very busy at WWofS during the day, they were not a problem then. The only time they impacted my vacation was leaving the parks at night. If I can be truthful, the kids were fine; it was the chaperones...and I use that term very loosely. On 2 evenings, once at MK and once at Ep, we were waiting in line for the bus back. If there were a few of their group in line ahead they'd all cut and join them. One time the cheerleader basically said, "Mom, we can't stay up here. These people have been waiting." The mom ignored her. I am not talking about 2 or 3 people popping up to their family after a bathroom break. I am talking about groups of 10 or 12 just strolling ahead of 100 people in line. It was infuriating! Not only because it wasn't a fair thing to do, but because of the example it set for every single kid witnessing it. Mind you, I was with my DH and 3 princesses, plus 6 months pregnant at the time...

Sorry for the long story. However, I thought I should share my firsthand experience. Of course that was in 2004 and a lot could change. And I should say, I loved everything about Pop and probably would change when I go versus where I stay.

Good luck deciding.

we were at the POP for the pop warner/cheerleading week in 2004. the place was over run. you heard cheers until well past midnight. the food court was impossible to use. they were practicing their pyramids in the pool until late in the evening. i would opt for another hotel.

DBF and I went "cheap" last year and stayed at POP and I must say that we did not encounter any of the "negatives" I had read about.

Be sure to tell them it is a honeymoon trip when you reserve and request a king bed - values and moderates have doubles - not so romantic. :thumbsup2

I was worried about noise and requested a top floor room facing away from the pool - it was very quite. For you, I'd request: King Bed (1st request), facing lagoon (2nd request), top floor far from elevator (3rd request)

The big school groups are at the All-Stars, I've never heard of them at POP. Now, I'm a high school teacher, so large groups of teens really don't bother me but that said, kids will be kids - not bad, but often loud so for a honeymoon, I'd take it out of the equation.

Definitely do the Dining Plan - especially if you are on a budget. You can plan really romantic dinners (don't forget a couple that you go back to your room to get a little dressed up for) and I must say it is so nice to go order whatever you wish without thinking about price!

Bring a bottle of wine (or stop at the store) - drinks are quite expensive at WDW.

Congratulations. Have a wonderful honeymoon and life together.

sorry but I must say, romantic and value dont go together. You can get some nice places for romance at a moderate like French quarter for just a little bit more. would really recommend that from much experience.

MY HEAD IS SPINNING!!!! :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 Don't worry I have had my heart set on the POR since I have been planning this adventure but.... $ 500 really means the difference between nice quiet sit down dinners with adult beverages or counter- service for every meal.

I don't think they have the dinning promo for 2007.

My mom's suggestion to save money....stay off-site!!!!! (GASP!) No way Jose it would just not be the same!

Maybe if I get a really big tax return we can upgrade. HECK by then I will be married and that should count for some kind of tax break!

pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: Hoping for a BIG tax break!

Actually Mom's idea might not be so bad.

I stayed at a few DTD hotels. They are very close to Pleasure Island and the Downtown Disney Shops, and most of them have shuttles.

I have not stayed there in several years but they might be worth looking into.

I hope you have the happiest of weddings and a most Magical Disneymoon! :wizard:

I found out the Pop Warner cheerleaders also stayed at Pop in December 2004 so large school groups do stay at Pop also.

I stayed at PC in December 2004. The Pop Warner kids were definitely there. I specifically chose PC since I had read in multiple places that PC was not equipped for large groups and that the Pop Warner kids would be at the All Stars only. That turned out to be untrue. For one night, it shouldn't be a problem, but if you want to avoid the Pop Warner kids, stay at CSR or a deluxe. Pop Warner has yet to announce what resorts are available this year, but in years past they have been at CBR, POR, and POFQ as well as the value resorts.

Here is a good thread Are the values as bad as they say?

Here is another good thread:

are value resorts THE most UNROMANTIC you can get??

There's an awful lot of different opinions thrown at you, but ultimately it's your trip and you'll make the most of it no matter what resort you pick. Much of the time will be spent in the parks, dining, etc. with the resort as a place to relax at the pool and sleep. I usually see what I can get into with a AAA or AP rate, then that decides it for me - my trip in Aug. only had ASMu open at a AAA and/or AP rate, so I went with it.

Enjoy your trip - whatever you decide!!!

Pop - I think lakes are romantic....
showphoto.php

For Romance definately All Star MUSIC! Broadway or Jazz, depending on your likes.

We just got back from 8 nights at Pop, and it was very quiet. We had a corner room in the 50's building overlooking the lake--great location! Not too close to all the "action," but close enough to get there quickly, if you want. We also visited Pop one afternoon during President's Day weekend, just to check out the noise level of the resort (DD8 is ADHD and very sensitive to sound). The resort was fully booked, but did not seem crowded at all. You'd have never known it was booked completely. Romance is what you make it--enjoy!

I think you can amke anything romantic in Disney, that's the beauty of it, so I don't think its' an oxymoron at all!
It's just the magic that's Disney that makes everything special, and when your with a loved one, makes everything Romantic.
So, just enjoy!
(And don't forget, you probably won't spend THAT much time at your resort anyway).

the only time that I though Pop was crowded was during breakfast - with everyone trying to rush off to the parks.

Not sure if I'm missing something but I don't see how a ton of screaming kids at the value resorts and the decor there = romantic? I'd say upgrade to a moderate for the 60 or so a night.

If you do choose a value, I'll never go back to the All stars, as I"ve stayed there twice and felt like I was at summer camp. I'd go with Pop as I checked out the pictures and actually must agree with others and say it looks nice.
