Most Compact Resort

This past year, we stayed at Wilderness Lodge and loved it. It was easy to get around the resort, and we loved that everything in the resort was a short walk from our room.

Are there any other Disney resorts comparable in size and "compactness" of Wilderness Lodge? We are planning another trip for December 2016 and thought about trying another resort. However, the small size of Wilderness has spoiled me.

As some of the PP's said, POFQ is very compact.

We stayed at CR in April and that is incredibly compact as well. :)

Some would consider the Contemporary a "compact resort". Its all in one building and shops/restaurants are just an elevator ride away if you are in the main building. Even the garden wing is a short walk.

It sounds like you enjoyed that everything was in a single building at WL, so here are some other single-building resorts:

Contemporary, if you're staying in a tower room
Grand Floridian, if you're staying in main building club level
AKL Jambo has probably a bit more walking than WL, but it's all in the same building
Yacht Club and Beach Club are in one long combined building, with most facilities sort of in the middle of the two resort sections
Boardwalk Inn and Villas are also in one long connected building, but most of the resort's shopping and and dining is on the Boardwalk itself

Once you get out of the single-building resorts, GF and Poly are probably the next most compact, followed by POFQ.

Of these resorts, which one is most kid friendly? We will have 2 4-year olds and a 1-year old with us. There will be a total of 6 adults too.

Of the three Epcot resorts I would say that the BC is the most kid friendly of the group. There are kids all over that place, all the time. The Yacht Club is more serene and sedate and people will often stay there to avoid the kids at the BC. ;) And you can walk or take a boat to two parks, which is very convenient.

The Boardwalk doesn't have any indoor access to restaurants, so if it is raining you would get wet trying to get something to eat.

GF is comprised of several buildings so I don't consider it compact at all unless you stay in the Royal Palm Club.

I think with 2 4-year-olds and a 1-year old, the CR is great for its ready access to MK -- which is going to be the top park for a group with those ages.

There's a lot to be said for the ready access to MK. Some people think the CR doesn't have a theme; they are not 4. The CR's theme is "Mama, there's a TRAIN!"

While it's true that AKL Jambo House is all in one building, we felt like the hallways were never ending. We happened to be near the end of one which made it very inconvenient to go back and forth to the pool, QS location, etc. Awesome resort but not good for someone specifically looking for compact, IMO.

I totally agree.

Thanks for all of the responses. I will share them with my group. I would love to stay at Wilderness Lodge again, but I need to get the opinions of everyone else in our group. I'd like to see it at Christmas time, but construction scares me.

This exactly! This past summer DS (then 2) fell in love with the resort. He loved the monorail, balcony, and especially the TPV from the balcony - watching fireworks, boats, buses, monorails, trucks, and the MK train was incredible for him (& us, too). :)

POR FQ was really compact and had dedicated buses many times. Everything was an easy walk. I enjoyed staying there very much. WL is our favorite though!

POFQ is definitely the most compact. The Contemporary in a tower room would be great too.

i'd agree that port orleans french quarter is the smallest. it is very easy and convenient. we liked it a lot when we stayed there but haven't returned because we like the food choices at other resorts better. at the time of our stay, pofq food was pretty limited. maybe it has changed? also we never checked out riverside which is supposed to have way more choices.

I think the CR (main building) is the most compact. The GF is pretty compact as well... If you look on a map (like Google maps) you can see the relative size of different resorts. Also, AKL (if you ask to be near the elevators and get that request) is pretty compact as well, but the hallways are quite long.

POFQ is an awesome, compact resort - with the added benefit of using ammenities at POR.
