Month of July - WISH Team Walkers and Runners

Good Luck Jeff!

Welcome CKAy!

Hi Susie! Thanks for the good wishes!

Nothing for me to report. I've been through an x-ray and ultrasound, neither of which showed anything wrong. :) I have an MRI scheduled for Aug. 3rd.
Good thing the Maui 1/2 has a 4 hr. time limit. I may need every minute of it if they don't figure out what my calf problem is.

Tracy

Hey Everyone! Its been a while since Ive checked in. I just read through the whole thread. Congrats to everyone in getting in all the training miles! Ive actually been side lined for a few weeks with a shin splint along my right interior tibia. I pushed through and was running with it for a few short runs, but on my last short run I realized I was actually run/limping and asked myself what the heck I was doing. I enjoy running and do it because its good for my body and mind (plus I can eat more carbs!). I knew continuing to run with an injury would make it worse and possibly chronic. SO, I made the tough decision to put off my goal of running my first marathon at the Maine Marathon in October. I WILL still run my first marathon, but I cant do it this fall. If I heal right and correct the problem thats causing the shin splint, I may be able to run the 1/2 at the Maine Marathon, but with my 3rd long run missed this week and only 10 weeks left, I just cant get to where I need to be in time. I was very disappointed at first, but I reminded myself that my goal was to run a marathon, not to run the MAINE marathon. I can still do it. It may be the same one next year or maybe even the disney in Jan. since its not yet full ;) I will get it done. SO tracy, I will be following closely how your recovery is going. I have not seen anyone for the problem. My guess is I was increasing my miles to quickly. Ive never had problems with shin splints before. I am going to a running store this weekend to have them check me for pronation, but until now Ive always had a neutral foot as far as I know. Anyway, just wanted to check in and congratulate and encourage everyone! Hope you all have a great weekend!
Lisa

Happy Friday! Well, I flaked a little on my training last night, only went 2 miles instead of the 3 I was supposed to do. We have friends coming into town tonight, and the house needed a bit of attention, so I figure I still got my 2 miles plus "housework CT" time! Only 44 days to the DL 1/2 now...

Good luck on the PT today Tracy!

Hi Lisa. Ya know, shin splints seem to be so common, and I know I feel a bit of tightening in my shins every time I go out, but then things stretch out as I warm up and the pain goes away. Here's some pixiedust: for a quick recovery!

The rain managed to subside last night so I got in my long run. Starting next week my long run will be at least half marathon distance. Kind of feels weird to run that long every week, or almost every week.

TGIF, all! I got a nice little surprise of a medal for Muddy Buddy in the mail the other day--well, not exactly a surprise. When I found out we had place 3rd in our age group, I emailed them and they said they'd send it. Nice and chunky!

Lisa Smart to back off when injured, but oh so tough. I hope you do recover enough to race the half.

Kara All miles are good--even if you don't quite make what the plan says.

Frank You are singlehandedly keeping the thread alive. Kudos! And for some cross-talk, I pick Andy Schleck for Ventoux. Hey, Frank got one, so now it's Andy's turn! (Plus Alberto has it in the bag, anyway)

As for me, booked my cheapo airfare for January yeseterday--yeah! Now working on procuring DVC points for my ressie at OKW. That plus some financial numbers juggling this weekend, 6 mile run, Ventoux stage will keep me busy.

Maura

GOOD LUCK JEFF!!!! and HAVE TONS OF FUN!!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Maura!!! That is AWESOME!

Tracy, Terri and all dealing with injuries sending positive thoughts your way. Hope everything eases up and issues resolved ASAP.

So far this week I've gotten in 6 yucky miles. Yuck cuz I had to stop there as I was sooo sick. Learn from my mistake. Do NOT go to the movies (though Harry Potter was good) and eat buttered popcorn then go out and try to do miles

Some good news I lost 10 lbs since I last saw my Dr & my cholestrol levels are all wonderful :woohoo:

The weekend is here!!! Hope everyone gets in some wonderful miles and our racing members have tons of fun!!!!

WTG on the medal Maura!!!!!

Diane, that is awesome about the weightloss and cholesteral counts:cheer2:

I have high cholesteral and if I don't get it down by Dec when I go back they will start to look at meds...not happy about that.

Can we go now???? I am not prepared but I need some heat...this summer is more like 1/2 spring with the rain and 1/2 fall with the cool temps......I want summer!!!

Diane - Glad to hear the good news for your cholesterol and weight loss!:)

Maura - YAY for cheap airfare! I booked my Jan. airfare about 2 months ago when I saw a chaep fare. I was very happy!

Frank - 1/2's every weekend! OMG! You go guy!:worship:

Kara - good job on getting in the 2 miles. Housework counts, too! ;)

Terri

Thanks all for the :cheer2:. It helped, I felt really good on my 8 miler this morning.

Way to go Maura! Double awesome on losing the weight and getting your cholesterol down!

Just catching up on today's TDF - and thinking about dinner. Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far.

I'm heading to the gym in a little bit. Im going to do my six miles on the elliptical so that I can get use the heart rate monitor. I'm getting further into MfM and I realize that while I am fairly comfortable at my runnin pace, I need to do a long workout at a lower heart rate. So for this week, that is my plan.

Have fun with your 6M today Megan.

I just finished my weights and hip hop abs...now to re-hydrate and get out for my 10K

Thanks guys for the :goodvibes on my health improvements :)

LISA! I was reading back a bit and saw your shin splints issue and the decision to give up the Maine full. That is one tough decision and so smart of you to pull back when you were running and to ask yourself why you were running while limping. I had the limping issue yesterday and it's at time so hard to pull ourselves back so we can run another day. So  and a big :cheer2: for listening to your body. You'll get there, it's in your 'voice' the drive to cross that finish line. Stay strong!!!

I did some miles yesterday. I'd almost call them junk ones :headache: because of how bad it was. I'm fretting it's the newer shoes or maybe because my arm hurt from the booster. Dunno. I was given my marching orders back to the gym this week. LOL Hopefully next week will be better. If not I will be revisiting the running store.

I hope everyones training is going well!!!! and :wizard: to those healing and awaiting answers. Stay strong!

JEFF!!! Waiting to hear!!! :cheer2::cheer2:

Hi all! I am a relatively new WISHer and runner. I started with C25K in January and am now running 3 miles 3 times a week. I have signed up for the WDW half. I just finished reading the '09 marathon weekend TR thread and cried at Jeff's video - well, it was the Wishes soundtrack that got me.

I have been fortunate in my running that so far nothing hurts. I started slowly and with good shoes. I am looking at half marathon training plans and need to pick one soon.

I saw that we have a volunteer opportunity at waterstop 11 on Sunday. I hope to join that crew.

I hope all had a wonderful weekend! See you around.

Ronda

:welcome: Ronda! A lot of us use John Bingham's Marathoning for Mortals plan. He has a walk, walk/run, run/walk, and run plan. We've got some Galloway fans here too. Whichever plan you decide to use - getting that medal and the sense of accomplishment is so amazing! And volunteering is a blast. DH and I were at red water stop # 2 last year and enjoyed it so much.

Can we go now???? I am not prepared but I need some heat...this summer is more like 1/2 spring with the rain and 1/2 fall with the cool temps......I want summer!!!

Come on down, Kim! It was 83 degrees at 7 am yesterday when I ran :scared:

Kimmers, You are always welcome to come on down to S. FLA!! It was 87 this AM with lots and lots of wetness (humidity!). Getting ready to storm now as I can hear the thunder out west of me.

Aloha Jeff: Thinking about you, hope your TRI is going well.

Diane: Sorry to hear about the "junk" miles. They are miles after all, I would take em.

Rhonda: Yes there is going to be a group somewhere near the MK to volunteer at a water stop for the full. I did it last year and had a blast volunteering. Most have signed up as a group for WS #2 for the full, if we can get a group of like 10 we can sign up there as an official group.

AFM: I got in six stonker miles. My leg/shin splints are doing fine, no pain, but then again I am not allowed to jog just yet. They were stonker miles because they just felt slow. Walking is a good way to think and well, I think I was just thinking too much and doing that "self talk" kinda thing and was not really paying attention to pace. Oh well, I got in the miles and the time and the sweat to prove it, so I will take em.

Have a good Sunday everyone!!

Racey Tracy
