Month of July - WISH Team Walkers and Runners

Monthly makes sense. These threads seem to go from busy to slow with the Disney running season.

Had a full day today. I ended up working 8.5 hours then got a haircut, hit the gym for a hour, and got in 7 miles before the rain that has yet to come. I managed to get the 7 in at a pace just quicker than what I need to finally break 90 in a half.

Hi all! Been kept busy with LTO and crud. Things moving along better so I hope to get in some regular posting. Been keeping up with at least some walking, bicycling. Needs more work is my motto for these next several days.

Mel, monthly will be great! Thanks.

10.5 miles, 54 minutes. Nice cruise through Waikiki on the bike.

Happy Tuesday WISHers.

Ronda Sometime in the fall, there is bound to be a shirt order. I don't recall who do it last year. Just stay tuned!

Susie Good to see you back. Seems like many of the veteran WISH'ers have gone quiet for a while.

Frank Glad you're training is going well. We'll all cheer for your sub-90 half (since none of us could ever run it that fast!)

Tracey pixiedust: for your shins.

Jeff Mr. consistent--always out there getting it done. Kudos!

Hi to everyone else!

This week I started (for real) my 10k training plan in prep for RFTT in October. So I am back to running 3x/week, which will take some getting used to. Today was speedwork. Yesterday, I went to the Costco website to buy the Garmin 305 and it was gone! So now I have to start bargain hunting again. The Costco price was a steal at $150.

Anyway, off to work.

Maura

Last brick workout, I think...

8.25 miles in 1:15. Garmin must be off, since we were running faster than last week. Felt sub 1:10.

800 meter swim in the rolling seas.

Can't wait for Sunday. Let's get it on!

Hi Maura, Frank, Mel, Lily and Jeff!!!

I had my first appointment with the PT yesterday to eval my right posterior shin splints. Lots of, "walk over there, stand like this, stond on one foot then the other, stand up on tippy toes, go back on heal, push down against my hand" and lots of measurements. Then I got some Ultrasound on the area, then the torture began where she just went to town on the areas on the shin where there were knots and stuff - OMG!! I was about in tears!! Then a nice and easy ice massage followed with electric stem with ice. So all in all, lots of fun. She said I can still be doing my reg miles walking but no jogging/running.

So I went to the Weston Regional Park near work and did my 4 miles after work at a nice and easy 14:30 pace. I am just going to take what I can get at this point so I can start my official training starting August 16th for the Spacecoast Half in November.

Have a good one everybody!!

Tracy

Can I say hi??? I'm a completely new runner. Well almost. I ran track in HS but that was 20 years ago! Recently I just became really sick of my gym. They cancelled some of my favorite classes. I was down to just doing a spin class which is mind-numbingly boring. And HOT!!! Maybe it's just my gym, but I have no interest in losing 8 pounds of water weight in one hour!

So back in April I took a run. First...do you realize that when you run, you create your own fan? Right there is a refreshing change from the gym. So I had a tough time at first, but here's what happened - I improved very quickly. So quickly, in fact, that I said to myself..."hmm, this might be just the excuse I need to get back to WDW." So I have a goal now to do the WDW 1/2. Probably won't get around to it until 2011, unfortunately. It's a long way off, but til then, I plan to just keep on running.

So there it is....just wanted to say hi. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread/forum. Lots of good stuff.

Welcome ckay87! There are always shorter races at WDW to keep you going until the 2011 races...just saying, :cool1:

I did 3 miles last night at about 14.5 pace. It felt very rough, I think because it had been several hours since lunch, I'd worked a 10 hour day, and only gotten 5 hours of sleep the night before, and I'd skipped my CT on Monday because it was DH's b'day :flower3: so I made him dinner instead of going to my yoga/pilates class.

Today I get two new fillings :scared1:, and tomorrow another 3 miles! Whee...

Hey Jeff, what are you training for right now? You're not doing the Ironman this weekend are you?!?

another sneaker question

I'm currently using asics 1130's, they are about dead, and apparently discontinued, does anyone know which model replaced them?

I'd say the 2130's, but those are old models as well. Latest are 2140's.

Tracy I feel your pain, well almost. I did the PT thing for a while for my IT band and I continue to do all the exercises they gave me. Good luck with returning to your running. I keep telling myself that I'm just happy to be able to walk.

But...I'm happy to report I ran 2 full miles yesterday w/out pain. Now I must wait two days (according to my PT) to run again. My summer has been in and out with more out so I can hardly keep up with everyone. I missed signing up for the DL 1/2 so I will try for the CTC next year. I was taking care of my mother and had very little internet access so it is probably for the better as I'm not currently ready to run that distance.

I missed signing up for the DL 1/2

Joan,

I am aware of someone who's injured, and probably won't make it to the DL 1/2. Likely they will try to sell their registration at cost. Let me know if you're interested, and I'll put the two of you in contact to work out the details.

:welcome: ckay! If you don't want to wait til 2011, there's a Princess half in March at WDW.

Good luck in your tri, Jeff!

Tracy...sorry about the shin splints. I had those my first year...different brand of shoe corrected it.

Shirt orders should commence in a month or so!

Hat/Visor order I will probably start a thread in Sept. Get the order out in November so people can have them by December and before Jan. races.

Ooooh, I need a WISH visor and hat. :lmao:

Yikes, was looking all over for the weekly thread and I couldn't find it....then I read this title.....duhhhhhh been one of those mornings.

Will go catch up.

Hope all is going well for everyone!!!!

Hang in there Tracey, don't get out too early or too long and sabotage your recovery. It is sooooooooooooo hard to let yourself heal but you will regret it if you turn your temporary injury into a chronic problem.

The weather sabotaged my long run yesterday. I am hoping the gloomy cloud of ick that is currently blocking the sun from northeastern Ohio goes away about 5:00.
