Moms to Be Part 3

Can I ask you what activities you do on the Wii Fit? :goodvibes I was nervous about using it because I don't want to mistakenly do something that will hurt the baby. I know that may sound silly, but I know there are certain things that shouldn't be done, you know what I mean? I have prenatal yoga DVD and I can tell how the poses are modified compared to my regular yoga.

That's so weird that you asked this! I was doing Wii fit last night and thought "are there things that i should not be doing?" Hula hoop used to be my favorite, but last night it started hurting a little so I didn't do that again. I did the step aerobics a few times and heading the soccer ball and some of the yoga but some of the balance ones are getting tricky!

I'm 24 weeks and feeling dizzy tonight! Is this normal? I'm not doing anything, mainly sitting around playing on the laptop.

I had an ultrasound at exactly the same gestation you are now with my son and he was also estimated to be 6lbs 10oz. He was born a week later at 36 weeks, 2 days, and he weighed 8lbs 4oz. So if he had gone another 3 weeks like yours likely will, I am sure he would have been a good 10lbs. So I would agree a c-section would be the way to go!

Oh gosh...I read that and though, holy cow, is he going to be born next week? :lmao:

In a way, I'm ready, and in a way, I want more time!!!

It's a ..........................BOY
Chase Michael arrived yesterday at 5:59 pm. He was 8 lbs. 7 oz. and 19 inches long. I haven't gotten to see much of him, because his breathing was too fast for awhile and they were keeping him in the nursery alot. Hoping to cuddle with him alot today. Labor and delivery was not too bad. The pain got bad when I arrived at the hospital and he arrived pretty quickly. I was admitted around 3:00 yesterday and he born in less then 3 hours. Luckily I only had to push for 2 rounds before he was out. Good luck to everyone else.

Congrats!!! I love the name Chase!!!

Thanks everyone! We're definitely not in labor yet - the more intense contractions I've been having today are definitely not intense enough for me to think that I'm actually in labor yet but they did get me thinking about how to actually time them.
We've got our next OB appointment tomorrow morning....here's hoping those "fake" contractions are actually doing something to speed this up!

Cappy, good luck to you! With my first, I never really went into labor. I had preeclampsia and I was far too drugged to do anything at that point. I wonder if I will be lucky enough to have 2 children and not experience labor? But from what I've read, it does sound like the little one is getting ready to make an appearance soon for you!!! :goodvibes

Congrats and Welcome Lilianddomsmom!

Cappygirl - I agree with the others, real labor contractions are way different from the BH contractions. With all my pregnancies I start contracting very early, 15/16 weeks. So I am very used to the usual tightening, discomfort, etc. But with my older 2, when I was in labor, there was NO mistaking it.

With my first the contractions were different in that they were radiating from my belly to my back, like bad cramping/back pain. They were every 7 minutes apart initially, but I couldn't tell you how long they lasted. When I called my dr's office they were every 5 minutes. The triage nurse said to lay down, drink a ridiculous amount of water, wait awhile (something like 30 minutes or so after the water), then call back and let them know what was happening. I did that (well, I didn't drink all the water as I was getting sick) and when I called back the contractions were then every 3 minutes so she said to head over to the hospital. When I got there I was 4cm (and I was barely 1cm at the only internal I had, which was a few days prior), completely effaced, and admitted.

Oh, one thing to note, with that kid, her head was positioned poorly, so in between contractions I had steady, terrible back pain. If my husband took his hands off my lower back I felt like it was ripping apart. I never had that with the BH contractions so that was another big sign.

With my 2nd kid my water broke in the middle of the night, but I didn't start contracting for a couple of hours after that. When I did, they were all in the belly, no back pain at all, but way, way stronger than the BH contractions, to the point where I couldn't really stand or walk during them. Part of that was likely because my water already broke, so his head was sitting on my cervix with no cushioning. But the nice bonus was that in between contractions, zero pain. None of that back pain crap I had with my 1st.

In his case though, the contractions started very irregular around 5am (2.5 hours after my water broke), so I just stayed in my bed. Then by 6:30 they were regular and picked up FAST. By 8:30am they were loooong contractions (though I never timed how long) and every 2 minutes. So the relief in between was very short lived, but very welcomed nonetheless. ;)

So both experiences were quite different from each other, but each time there was no mistaking that that was it.

I hope your appt today shows some progress for you!

Patsy - I am going to test out your links and see if they worked for my kids. I know in the past I tried them (though different websites I think) and had mixed results too.

Oh, and that heartbeat thing, my SIL was a firm believer in that. She didn't find out the genders of any of her kids, so she used the heartbeat to guess. It was higher with her 1st and that was a girl, lower with the 2nd and he was a boy, then came the 3rd. Heartrate was identical to her son's so she had no doubt in her mind that this baby was a boy. Till SHE came out! She was blown away.

I never knew the heart rates with any of my kids, but I saw this one's on the ultrasound this week and it was 159. Is that considered high or low? I know she's a girl (or so they tell me anyway...), but have no idea what the 'high' and 'low' heart rate numbers are.

I'm taking my kids out to grab breakfast on our way to school since we've already been up 2 hours. Ugh. I know in the grand scheme of things this is nothing, but yesterday my car decided to break on my way home from taking the kids to school. I was making a turn and all of a sudden there was a really bad, bad noise like a grinding noise, and I could barely turn the car. Luckily I was 2 blocks from my house so I sort of coasted back. Then had to walk to the school to volunteer in my son's class and go on a field trip with my daughter's class. That was fine, I planned on walking anyway, but not in such haste. Then we took the Metro for the field trip so more walking. Got back and both kids had afterschool classes, so I had 1.5 hours to kill, so I walk to Starbucks with a friend. Went back to the school at 3:45 and sat in the lobby, to realize it was the first time I sat down since 10:15am and my body definitely felt it! A friend drove the kids and I home and someone came to tow my car to the dealer (as it's in warranty).

I then spent the rest of the night contracting regularly, likely from all the walking, and with some nice back pain. So I slept horribly and then had to get up to take my husband to work at 5:30am so I have his car for the day. We can walk to school, but my daughter has dance this afternoon and it's not walkable or metro accessible. This could not have happened at a better time and I am sure they will take ages to repair it.

That happens to me. I can just be sitting and watching tv and feel dizzy. strange but I think it's normal. :goodvibes

Ok, has anyone read Jenny McCarthy's Belly Laughs? Funniest book about pregnancy ever!!!! I highly recommend it!!!

congratulations Lilianddomsmom!

justhtat - you were so quiet yesterday, I thought for sure you had gone into labor! Sorry about the car troubles.

Just back from the doctors - nothing new to report unfortunately :sad2:
My cervix is still closed up and far back....however the baby has dropped even more which surprised my doc - she seems shocked every week by how low this baby's head is. I'm taking that as good news that means hopefully we won't have a lot of pushing to do once we're actually in labor!

I have another appointment scheduled a week from today. Our due date is the 18th (this monday) - I don't think I ever updated it from the master list or my ticker after the 20 week ultrasound that changed it from the 20th to the 18th. So if there's still no baby by next thursday then we'll schedule the induction for either the 24th or 25th.....at least there's an end in sight but I would really appreciate that end coming sooner rather later!

Welcome, lilianddomsmom! I was due last June 10th with Lucas. It was a great time of year to have him with all the warm weather coming up!!

I think I made all the appropriate changes to the list for others.

I am excited my appointment is a week from today. I'm pretty sure I'll get an order to schedule an ultrasound so thats got me pretty excited. If they don't give me an order I might just beg for one. hehe.

I've been posting on the other threads and forgot we had a MOMMY TO BE community...originally due date was april 17th..but its april 18th. and its going to be a boy..so this will be my second boy!!! was hoping for a girl so i can have a little PRINCESS..but whatever I'm going to have two PRINCES...yay for me...

Well, unless Elliott decides to make his appearance sooner, we are scheduled for induction on January 26th! There is a light at the end of my tunnel!!!

Patsy - Can't wait to hear what your official due date will be after your appt!

BabyTigger - Congrats on a date! It's so nice to have an endpoint in sight, isn't it? And that is the date my daughter is hoping for with our baby, cause her birthday is 2/26.

Congrats on the little boy MommaMouse!

Cappygirl - I wish I had the baby yesterday, as it would have been better than the ridiculous pain I was in. My big fear is that it will now happen this weekend, when my friend is in Mexico so that I can scramble to get someone to watch my kids. Sunday would actually work well for me since my daughter has a playdate and pawning off my son somewhere would be fairly easy, but unfortunately I can't plan it.

I hear you about the pain, justhat!! Every part of my just HURTS!!!

I believe "high" is 150 and up.

Edit: Ok, I just looked it up and several sites say 140 and up... Of course, they all say this particular wives tale is a myth too. :)

I finally went back and tried those links. The 1st one said girl for all 3 of my kids, though my 2nd one is actually a boy. 2nd link said girl, boy, girl, which would be correct.

So 140+ is high? I didn't think fetal heart rates were supposed to be much lower than 140, but then again, what do I know since I never knew what my kids were!

The first time I got to hear Elliott's heartbeat it was 152. So much for the heartbeat theory! I will say it did get my hopes up of having a girl!!

This LO was consistantly in the mid to upper 150's and higher in the beginning. Now he is down in the 120's.

Lucas usually had a HB in the range of the 160s I think.

I could look it up in the earlier pages of this thread. ;)
