Mommy...Why does Crush talk like you? Final thoughts and summary 10/15

Chapter 13: Who designed this park anyway??

Well, here we are on day 4, sleeping in our beds. The phone goes off to get us to the rope drop, but we ignore it. Why?? We are going to the Animal Kingdom, and the cattle call at rope drop ticks us off.

Finally, we get up and dressed, grab some food, and head off to the bus stop. What’s this? The stop is PACKED!! There are tons of people! And tons of STROLLERS. Bleh. :scared:

The bus pulls up, and everyone, it seems, is waiting to get on the same bus. We get on the bus, and the driver has a selection of pins sitting out. He tells the kids to each take one, which they do (Brianna takes a “Happy anniversary pin, and Spencer took a “first trip” one....both are untrue, and I was a little upset HHBG let them wear the pins), and we sit down. Family after family piles on behind us. Everyone seems to have those big, bulky, take up too much room strollers. You know the ones I mean. The Strollers that “fold down” and still take up just as much room.

:offtopic: Ok, mini rant: WHY do people NOT prepare their strollers and stuff BEFORE the bus gets tot he stop?? I’m not talking about having everything all folded up and stored while waiting, I understand that your child may want to sit in the stroller while you wait, but is it really THAT HARD to fold up and get ready as the bus is pulling up? Why wait until you are standing directly in front of the bus doors to decide to start unloading the kid and paraphernalia...Oh! And I need this too!! Inevitably, mom would take the kid and leave dad to wrangle the stroller and all of the stuff onto the bus.

Also....what’s the deal with the huge strollers and the thirty pounds of stuff?? Seriously. What’s wrong with a small umbrella stroller, a diaper day-bag, and one each of the blanket/toy/pillow trilogy? How long are you dragging that poor child to the park?? I used to travel with TWO kids in diapers who are 12 months apart in age with less stuff for a WEEKEND than some of these people carry to the parks, I swear. I saw one lady with THREE bags for ONE child!!

Uh...not such a mini-rant, but I’m done now.... :rolleyes1

ANYWAY.....

With all of the stuff people were hauling on the bus, things got really tight. The bus was standing room only. HHBG got up to let a lady carrying a small toddler take his seat. I had Brianna on my lap, and offered my seat to another lady. The bus was pretty full....

Then we went to our second stop!! Grand Floridian and MORE PEOPLE WITH TOO MUCH STUFF!! :scared:

It was ridiculous. There was no way to walk. Men were carrying these huge strollers that blocked the entire aisle off of the bus so people could get on,t hen carrying the strollers back onto the bus. I was starting to get claustrophobic.....

FINALLY we got to Animal Kingdom....which is officially the worst designed park of the Walt Disney World resort. What’s the deal with that park?? You split into two groups on either side of the circle all to come right back together into a huge choke point over the bridge?? Then, on top of that, they set up a great photo spot on that bridge so people can all stop and block off all of the traffic trying to take a pic?? There’s never any way to see everything in one day at AK, because it’s set up to make things difficult. Every time we go, w e have to decide which rides we want to go on ahead of tie and plan it out. I am NOT a planner to this extent, and I hate it. Even so, we STILL always end up not making it to something. Bleh. We have been to AK three times, and I have never been on Kali....it’s always the thing that gets left off, since it is a wet ride. One of these days.....

Ok, we got inside and through the throngs at the BRIDGE OF DEATH. We immediately headed off and got fast passes for Killiminjaro safaris. We were going to head to kali River rapids then, but HHBG and the kids insisted that we go see It’s tough to be a bug. We had skipped this show last year because I was afraid it would be too scary for the kids, but they had had NO problems on any of the other rides, including Tower of Terror, Honey I shrunk the Audience, and Stitch’s great escape, and HHBg had given me a hard time, so this year, I said OK. What could go wrong, right?? :scared:

Oh....the horror.......:faint:

The waiting area for ITTBAB is a little creepy. The kids were nervous. We tried keepign them chipper by taking pics of them in their glasses:

Spencer’s already a little nervous....and how does he see with all of those fingerprints on his glasses??

We went in to sit down for the show, and ended up in the front row. This makes for quite the headache, as the 3-D effects don’t quite work at that close range, but, pretty quickly we weren’t worried about it. Spencer was scared of the wasps. Then the giant grasshopper came out, and it was OVER for him. The fog came, and he curled into a little ball and started to shake. Brianna was with HHBG, so I don’t know how she did (He says she did OK, but announced that she NEVER wanted to go back), all I know is I spent half of the show chanting to Spencer “It’s all pretend. You’re Ok. It’s all pretend” Over and over again while he cried that he wanted to leave.

Finally the show was over. We were carrying two very unhappy children, and our fast passes weren’t up for KS. We decided to go on Dinosaur!, because, you know, we hadn’t scared the kids enough for one day. :rolleyes1

The kids both really enjoyed Dinosaur!, so it was all good. Then, since there was no line, we went on Triceratops spin. Oh, and look who was in line with us:

Afterwards, the kids wanted to do their midway game, so we let them. Brianna won something and Spencer didn’t. Bleh. That pretty much guaranteed that we would have to listen to him whine about that fact for the entire time we were on line for Nemo. LUCKY US. :crazy2:

We waited or Nemo, and got a decent seat for the show. Last year, Nemo was HHBG’s favorite attraction, so we HAD to go see it again. Again, it didn’t disappoint. We are a weird family. We aren’t too into Festival of the Lion King, and skipped it this year, but we waited in line for Nemo. Oh well.

After Nemo, we walked out, again chanting “Mine....mine....mine....”

At this point, we could have gone to KS, but it was time for lunch.....

Coming soon: Does the Yak and Yeti live up to it’s name???

Oh, ugh - sorry to hear your AK day was so sucky! Very, very glad we skipped Tough to be a bug - I had decided early on that children that were terrified of most real bugs at actual size might really freak out about big huge ones complete with special effects. Sounds like that was a good decision...

I don't get the 3 bags for one baby thing, either, fwiw. Although, I did pack more stuff for AK than any other day, simply because I didn't want everyone to be soaked and cold after Kali, and I knew everyone wanted to ride it.

ITA...I have used an umbrella stroller every year since we have taken Jimmy. I could not see lugging one of those BIG HEAVY strollers around WDW for 2 weeks:scared1:

Great update Angela!:thumbsup2

YOu really think that you can not take AK in one day, we always end up leaving by like 2 or 3 but i guess we do not see all of shows they have either.

I agree why don't they just bring umbrella ones?

:offtopic: Ok, mini rant: WHY do people NOT prepare their strollers and stuff BEFORE the bus gets tot he stop??
Agree again, it holds everyone up :headache:

I was starting to get claustrophobic.....
I would have too

Oh poor thing, my DD's still refuse to go on it as it's too scary!

See I'm such a mean Mummy that I won't let the girls play the games as I won't spend any more $ :rotfl2:

I think it's hysterical that Tough to be a bug brings them to tears but they like Dinosaur!:lmao:

I think some people are just totally oblivious to the fact that they share the planet with others!

Yep, we always skip ITTBAB, too, and I think we'll just keep on skipping. Jordan's TR has inspired me to give AK another chance and see some stuff we haven't--I'm just hoping Dec. will be cool, b/c I think the heat always makes us leave after lunch time.

Yuk on the stroller, and stuff. I refused to carry one of those huge quilted baby bags or have the condo stroller. Of course, I'm not the mom you ask for a bandaid, either....:rolleyes1 .

Love the bug glasses... so sad they got scared inside and waiting however... :(

I can't wait to see that Nemo show... we missed it last year...

I can't wait to hear your review of Yak and Yeti... It's on our list to try the CS this year

They were scared to DEATH! At least Spencer was.

It's one thing to pack a big backpack for the family, or a mid-sized baby bag for a baby, but these peopel had ONE kid, many of them and a world of stuff!!

PEEPS! :rotfl2:

Great update! :thumbsup2

I swear, once you start looking, they're EVERYWHERE!

Great update.

Thanks!

Thanks! now, I admit to being biased, as we are non-stroller in the park people, but it was a joke. People literally couldn't walk around them. For me, it would be worth the $25 to buy and lug a decent umbrella stroller. I know not many people have the extra $$, but those huge ones are so cumbersome and crazy.

YOu really think that you can not take AK in one day, we always end up leaving by like 2 or 3 but i guess we do not see all of shows they have either.

Well, you are (were) also two adults who could swiftly walk between rides, and wh probably skip such thrill rides as triceratops Spin. We are constantly dragging the kids with us while they whine that they don't want to walk....and stopping for snacks, potty breaks, etc. You'll learn.....

We also have to leave parks by about 2, because the kids start to melt down.

I agree why don't they just bring umbrella ones?

We let them do ONE midway game. Usually it's the throw a ball into a cup game, but this time they wanted to whack a dino, which is a race game, and HHBG helped Brianna before I helped Spencer, so she won. Bleh.

I think it's hysterical that Tough to be a bug brings them to tears but they like Dinosaur!:lmao:

I think some people are just totally oblivious to the fact that they share the planet with others!

NOTHING else scared them. :confused3 In fact, they were mad they were too small for expedition everest. but the bugs kicked their tushies.

Yep, we always skip ITTBAB, too, and I think we'll just keep on skipping. Jordan's TR has inspired me to give AK another chance and see some stuff we haven't--I'm just hoping Dec. will be cool, b/c I think the heat always makes us leave after lunch time.

I had bandaids with me. I'm just selfish, and don't want to kill my back lugging a huge bag around. I had things streamlined.

Love the bug glasses... so sad they got scared inside and waiting however... :(

We did TS at Yak and Yeti, and have heard they are relatively different, just so you know.

I too have never been on Kali, it does always seem to be the ride we never make it to!

Ah true, i forgot about park hopper, that is why i told DW that i am bringing the rum into the parks to knock him out when we want him to take a nap.
:thumbsup2

JK:lmao: I wont do that, i will drink it.:goodvibes

I hate that triceritop spin thingy,i hope parker does not like those rides.
:faint:

HHBG's impressions of the bug show:

The holding area for the bug show is straight out of an Alien's movie. It's a dark, dripping cavern filled with frightened children and the rustling sounds of small moving creatures. Not a creature in sight... no visible source of movement... just skittering outside your range of vision... Ahh... but this is the safe part of the show. The screaming starts later. That's when the little kids will curl up into quivering balls of whimpering terror... but the adults... ah, the adults will be become the true stars of the show. Shrieking and screaming and batting invisible insects like the best of schizophrenics. Do you feel the spiders crawling on you yet? Don't worry... you will. But that's all in the future. Right now, we are still in the holding pen and the screaming is still in the future. The kids know that this is a BAD PLACE, but the adults are still deluding themselves... walking headlong into the BAD PLACE with the mantra 'but this is Disney... but this is Disney....'

Slowly the doors creak open and the crowd moves deeper into the gaping maw of the theater. The lights go out, fog blocks what little you can see, and the skittering of little insects is all around. But it's OK... it's just show. Disney won't let anything bad happen. Just keep saying that, you might believe it for another ten seconds or so. Yes, it's still pitch black and you are still surrounded by the sound of skittering insects. And then a spider crawls up your arm. Not just your arm - a spider crawls up the arm of everyone in the theater at the same time. You try to bat the spider off... but it was just your imagination. And then you feel something on your leg. And there is a buzzing sound of bees attacking; then, something stings you in the back...

Yes... the theater is full of special effects to make you seem like bugs are crawling on you. It's not really your imagination... there really is stuff in the room. Then the announcer says something about 'everyone run... the roaches are attacking...' (followed by realistic feeling special effects of insects crawling on everyone). People are losing it.... Not just kids, there are adults screaming hysterically... one lady is broken down and sobbing.... the kids are all petrified, those that aren't curled into balls are jerking their heads around looking for somewhere safe to bolt...

To put it politely, this was a once in a lifetime experience. The kids might go back someday, but I am never going near the place again.

It's Tough To Be A Bug.... People wonder why I'm scared of grasshoppers in such! Well, they haven't witnessed the terror, the scary special effects I was SCREAMING, tearing at the seat and started sobbing right then and there that I never wanted to come in EVER again. Well, every trip my parents always say... Aww, it won't be scary at all! Just like Snow White's SCARY Adventures?!??!?!?!?! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! I'm even afraid of the Haunted Mansion and ToT because of the twilight zone part.

Am I the only person who HATES any of these rides?

I love this TR so far!! I want to see her in that gorgous minnie outfit!!! Who made that fabulous Set!!! :rotfl:

The one and only time I saw ITTBAB..I cried and jumped into Jim's lap when they did the part about remaining in your seats:scared1:

Great update!! LOL about the strollers! Makes me so glad we stayed at the Poly AND had our car - used the monorail or drove wherever we went. We had a mid-sized stroller and an umbrella stroller. One bag of stuff and a small soft-sided cooler in the basket of the mid-size. If there was a crowd at the monorail (only once), we just waited for the next. I am ITA about those using strollers and not preparing them IN ADVANCE. Hello? How about common courtesy. I thought the 2 strollers, 2 bags essentially and 2 kids would be too much for DH and I to handle on the busses, so we just never used them. I never wanted to be struggling to hang onto everything or taking up a ton of space, crashing into others, etc. The monorail is heaven, LOL!
