Wow I'm so sorry that is just awful. I'll keep your family in my thoughts.

Sorry to hear...wish there was something to say...best of luck with everything!

:grouphug:
I'm so sorry. We'll be here if you need us.

You have way more important things to worry about than a TR. We're here if you need us:grouphug:

Dude that rots! :grouphug:

Angela,

I'm so sorry to hear that. Hope he finds something that he loves and pays better very soon!

Angela, I'm so sorry! When does the merge happen?

So sorry to hear that Angela.... Hopefully he'll find something really quick

I am so sorry for your family. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers and keep my fingers crossed that a better job will come along.

-Becca-

:grouphug: so sorry about the job situation.... maybe a new (better) opportunity will present itself?! :scared: My Dh works for Morgan Stanley and there are lay offs every few weeks - we keep our fingers crossed at all times. Of course- he's mentioned the "severence" opportunities, but I very strongly disagree.

Your trip report is hilarious and very *real*. I have had the sunscreen in the eyes situation many times myself. My favorite line: "actual wait time- an eternity."

Hang in there- I hope it all works out for your beautiful family :cheer2: :flower3:

Good luck with sorting everything out, and I hope your dh finds another opportunity soon. (((hugs)))

I'm so sorry Angela, hope he finds something really quickly :goodvibes

My thoughts are with you! Hope HHBG finds something soon, an even better job!!

Thank you everyone for the support. Financially, we're Ok for a while. HHBG wants to finish something he's thought about for a while, so it looks like he won't be too actively looking for a job for the summer. We ran the financials, and with his severance, we can swing that.

I appreciate everyone stickign with me, and I think I'm feeling inspired....:scratchin:

Chapter 11: Yummy food and the worst afternoon EVER.

Where were we??

Ah yes, we had just gotten off of Soarin’ and taken the necessary pictures. Now, it was time for lunch....in FRANCE. FYI: French food is my absolute favorite. I want to live in Paris when I get old and get hugely fat on French food. I made ADRs the week we were in WDW for BOTH restaurants in France.

So, all excited, we set off towards France. This time, I went the right way....through Mexico! Ok. Not really. We started in Canada. What, you think I would even CONSIDER taking the long way en route to my beloved French food? Cha.....As if. :snooty:

Again, my little alien children whined the ENTIRE way to France. Some excerpts:

“My feet hurt!”
“I’m Tired!”
“It’s too long!”
“CARRY ME!!”
“Wait Mommy! Can we buy one??”
“My ear is itchy, I can’t walk!” (I wrote that one down, it was so unbelievable.)

After our little happy jaunt, we arrived in FRANCE. FRAAAANNNNCCEEEE........(insert another drooling Homer Simpson face)

I went up to the podium to check in, and we sat down in the shade on one of the benches. The guys who climb on stacked chairs were out, so the kids were content to watch them and ask me how much it would hurt if the guy fell. (Seriously. My kids are morbid that way).

While we sat there, HHBG and I indulged in our favorite “waiting for french food” witty banter, stolen mostly from Better off Dead.

HHBG: “so, what do you think you’re going to order? I think I’m getting......frahnch fries....”
Me: “frahnch toast....”
HHBG: “Frahnch dressing”
Me: “and to drink.....Peru!”

We are easily amused.....

Just as the chair climbing guys were finishing up, they called our name to be seated. Oh, and BTW, don’t you just LOVE my immense Disney Trivia knowledge in having absolutely NO IDEA what the “French chair climbing guys” actual name is?

We were seated in a nice spot by the door and given our menus. After looking it over, there were about 5 appetizers I was interested in, and not too many entrees. HHBG fortunately felt the same, so we decided on 4 appetizers to eat as our meal. Gotta love the Cash plan. The kids, for once, saw things they wanted, so we were set.

Our server, Jeff, came over, and we explained to him what we wanted to do, and he grinned at our choices. We decided, Hey, when in France.....and also ordered a bollte of wine to drink with LUNCH. (Alchies). What we ordered:

HHBG and ME: Escargot, Cheese plate, Charcuterie, salmon tartare
Kids: Cheese pastry and Chicken with pasta.
Wine: Chenin Blanc

Our food and the kids’ pastries arrived and the wine was served, and we started to eat. Ok, first we laughed at the cheese, because there was NO Brie or Comte, which are some of the most popular (i.e. best selling) cheeses in France (I know more obscure trivia about France than I do about Disney). But the cheese plate looked good, the escargots were fabulous, and the tartare was excellent. The charcuterie was good, but that was more HHBG’s choice. HE loved it, I was less into it. The kids were loving their pastry and eating well. They were even behaving well and staying seated!!

Then........

This is where things go VERY BAD.......

OK, here I am having had little to no sleep for DAYS. I am surviving on caffeinated soft drinks. I am finally eating in my Favorite country and eating some of my favorite foods. I have already picked out my dessert and made the decision to pig out.

So what happens to ruin this wondrous meal??

How about a crippling sudden-onset migraine of death??

Dude. This was one of the worst headaches I have gotten in the 15 years I have been dealing with migraines. No warning, just sudden SEVERE pain, light sensitivity, and dizziness. BLEH!

What’s worse? I never put my migraine meds into the Cargoes of Holding +1. Nope. I just have Advil, Aleve, and Tylenol (and more...one of my pockets was the medicine pocket). Usually, I get a 30-45 minute warning headache before a migraine shows up that I have learned to recognize, so I had figured I would have plenty of warning to get back to the resort for the migraine meds. No such luck.

So, here I am, surrounded by great food, and I feel like I am about to die....or puke. I hit my pain tolerance in about 5 minutes flat. I chugged some Advils, and HHBG started looking for the waiter. He had been so attentive, where did he go!?!?!

I have no idea how long we waited there, they ate, and we looked for the waiter. NO IDEA. I know int eh beginnign, I had told HHBG not to worry about it, and we could finish the meal. But the headache got worse and worse and worse. I was to the point that we moved my plate and the food away from me, and I was lying on the table with my head clenched in my hands.

FINALLY the waiter shows up.....with the kids’ pasta and chicken. DANGIT! I forgot about that. The kids want to eat it. We ask poor Jeff for the check ASAP and let the kids start eating.

The kids ate well again for their lunch, and Jeff returned quickly with the check. He had also told the manager I seemed ill, and the manager came by to make sure it wasn’t the food. We assured him it was a migraine, and there was nothing he could do, but thank you for the concern. Jeff brought a Styrofoam doggie box with the check, and helped the kids put their leftovers into the box.

HHBG paid, using the DDE card, and in his concern for me, didn’t pay attention to the fact that DDE automatically adds an 18% gratuity, and double tipped. Oh well. Jeff was pretty good about getting us the check right away. We didn’t feel too bad about it.

We left the restaurant, walked out of the gateway to the world entrance, went to the Yacht club or beach club (whichever is the closest there), through the lobby, and out to the taxi stand where we got a taxi and went back to the hotel.

The instant we were in the room, I crashed. HARD. Apparently, according to HHBG, so did Brianna. Spencer didn’t sleep, so he and HHBG stayed up and played video games and watched TV.

We had reservations that night for our fist night out without the kids and dinner at the Flying Fish Cafe.....our favorite restaurant......would we make it, or would I still be too sick, forcing HHBG to order rom service???

Coming soon......What did we do for dinner????

Oh no!!!! Sickness should be illegal while on vacation!!!!

I can sympathize with you on the pain, I've had headaches for about 14 years that if they get out of control, make me pass out. Good times.

I hope you felt better and got to go to dinner..........

SNAILS??? You ate SNAILS????? I imagine that like swallowing a huge booger.:scared:

Oh I suffer from Migraines and know your pain. I take Imtrex pills to help prevent them but Imatrex also has a nose spray that I swear gets rid of them in an hour. Considering Migraines can last days I love them. You should look into them. They are wonderful!

I was just reading winkers report, and lo, and behold, I see that you have an update! So sorry about the migraine; I can't imagine how bad that must have felt. I used to have mild migraines. I know that sounds weird, it was mostly blurry vision, light sensitivity and then shooting pain for about 20 minutes, leaving me feeling zonked for hours. Haven't had them since I had dd though, which is weird. I hope you were able to make it to date night!

OMG you and HHBG sound like me and my DH when there is time to kill...cracking out some nonsense from some movie...and my kids are all into "Mort" (as we call it from watching too much Godfather!) and is someone will end up "Mort" from doing something dangerous...:confused3

Sorry about the brain pain!:headache: I hate Migraines!!! I hate them!!!! I am so FEARFUL one will show up while on vacation! (Mental note to self...keep meds with me at all times!)

That sucks about the migraine!! I too loved the escargot! It was amazing!!!!!

KC gave it a thumbs up! :thumbsup2

Ooh - so sorry about the migraine!

Must admit, I know much more about the more plebian French food than fancy French food, since I was a student when I was there! When I'm jonesing for French food, I'm thinking of a real French baguette, crepes from street vendors, and pastries...I ate a lot of Gruyere when I was there, and maybe camembert. And strangely enough, I was hanging out with a non-drinking crowd, so never really learned much about French wines. Dh, who has never been to France, knows more French food, because his parents took him to fancy French restaurants when he was growing up. ;)

I hope you got to at least enjoy your evening!

And good luck with the summer plans - I hope they involve something more than incessant WoW...(I'm sure they do, or no way would you have agreed!)

coming out of lurkdom...I've been really enjoying your trip report. Thanks for the entertainment!

Because I'm new, I don't have enough posts to PM you, but if you are interested - or hhbg is interested, I may have a possible job lead for you if he's interested in the computer programmer career. I don't know exactly what hhbg does now, but I read that he was a computer programmer. Anyway, you can PM me - maybe? (can I get PM's even if I can't send them?)- and I can get you more information if you are interested. If not, no biggie.

Now I'm off to read the latest update.

Yeah, you know NOTHING about pain or drugs when on vacation...:rolleyes1

And they cook the snails. No slime, just yummy goodness.

Oh no:hug: Hope you were able to recover and enjoy your night out!:goodvibes

I hope so, too!

I have Imitrex. the nasal spray does VERY LITTLE for me. I even tried the shots. the pills are best because I can take more than one. even then, they sometimes don't touch the migraine.

Let's put it this way, I need to make another appointment with my neurologist because I am about out of Vicodin. :sad2:

I LOOOOVE all French Food. we did a picnic at versailles with 3 different cheeses, ham, a fresh baguette, strawberries and a bottle of wine. It was awesome.

This summer, we have a bunch of plans, and are making more. So far, we are goingt othe poconos for a week, camping for a weekend, goign to New Orleans for a week while my ILs watch the kids in August, and the kids will each have a week alone with my folks. We are members at the Bronx Zoo, and have an ice skating rink, and a pool at the park. We're also going to do a little bit of "catch up" work with DS on his handwriting.
