MM Warriors - Three Steps to Good Health (As of 11/18)

Dearest Robin, God has placed you in their lives for an important purpose. You are an amazing friend and angel! Thanks for sharing the good news that Dennis is better tonight. Prayers going up for him and you all. Rest well.:littleangel:

Hi All, its midnite and Im home...no gym, too tired and just need to sleep. I will catch up on posts tomorrow, so hopefully didnt miss anything major.

Dennis is a little better, hoping to be moved from ICU tomorrow...they cut his leg open from ankle to knee and also in groin to remove clots...so now have to regulate blood thinners on top of everything else...apparently its not uunusual to throw clots if you have lung tumors...hoping he will be better tomorrow so they can continue his radiation, which was started monday and was supposed to be every day for 10 days...now he has missed two days already. He was very weak and pale, but able to joke a bit, and I got all kind of bossy with the ICU nurse and made her get him a Glucerna shake to see if I could make him drink it. He is barely eating a few bites, and needs the nutrition to keep up his strength. Well, luckily he liked it and managed to get down almost the whole can, so Praise God for that!

Im more than just a little distracted, and emotional, so just trying to keep my mind on work and prayer...luckily carbs will NOT be my support! I refuse to give in to wanting a huge ice cream sundae and a big bowl of macaroni and cheese!! LOL, who would have thought I would just say NO and go have an Atkins shake instead!! :) off to bed like a good Pony, hope everyone else is ok, and I will try to catch up tomorrow...Thanks for the prayers and most of all for just plain LISTENING!! Love You All

 Good nite

Good morning everyone! I hope you all had a good night of rest. I slept pretty well, but woke up around 5 with a horrible migraine. I had some chicken salad last night, and remembering Lisa saying a while back about headaches and msg, I checked the label when I got up. No msg in it. It did have a tiny bit of sugar in it, about number 7 out of 10 ingredients.

I always have a really hard time at Christmas with depression. I have had it for years, but at times it gets worse than others :( It will improve hopefully soon. I also wish we all lived near each other. I think it would be so nice to get together for a lunch or just hang out. I think I need to surround myself right now with lots of friends and family. I am going to Tristan's house tomorrow evening. I am back on plan today. It wasn't even that I was craving carbs. Just didn't have time to eat right, so when I got hungry, I grabbed a slice of bread or a couple crackers. The lady I work for that her husband had surgery has me doing all kinds of stuff for her. I don't mind, but throws me completely out of wack. I need to plan for just about anything when I go to her house.

Kate, glad Chloe got home ok. How nice she will be home for that long! I know your enjoying your time with her.

Robin, so glad to hear Dennis is doing better. I am praying for you all. Thank God he like the glucerna. A note, CVS puts them on sale quite often, so keep an eye out for them ;) If I see them in the flyer, I'll let you know. Also Carnation instant breakfast may help a bit too. You can also add some whey or soy protein to the shakes for a bit more nutrition.
I also got your card yesterday, Robin. It is beautiful. And thanks for the picture. Is that the one you had done for work? You look great!! I will have to have some pictures taken at Christmas and post them. I will wear that purple shirt I bought a while back!

Ok, off to the shower. May help the headache a bit too. Just saw on the weather we may have a noreaster coming this weekend. Maybe a white Christmas!! Just as long as we don't get feet of snow LOL.
Have a great day everyone!!

Okay. Christmas tree in the house. Check. Lights on the tree. Not yet. Decorations on the tree. Not yet. At least it smells wonderful. Chloe is always in charge of the lights - thank goodness. She became "light person" when she was about 12 - she was watching her dad and Demi trying to put the lights on by starting at the bottom of the tree. They wouldn't listen and when they finally realized their mistake, they turned the job over to Chloe!

Kristi was running a fever yesterday and she is having some problems with the trachea tube. My sister says that the pattern seems to be a few good days, and then a not-so-good day. She says that at least the not-so-good days are always better than the one before.

By the way, I made the spaghetti squash & sausage casserole the other night. It was pretty good.

Our office holiday lunch is today. We go to a restaurant. While there is a fixed menu, I have some control over what I eat so I am pretty sure that I can stay legal. And although I still have not been able to get back into the swing of eating perfectly, I am not craving or eating tons of sugary carbs. There was a cake in the kitchen at work yesterday that didn't call out to me at all. Which is pretty amazing.

Robin - I am keeping you, Dennis and Rick in my thoughts.

Kathy - don't forget that you can always snuggle up to Tyson if you need a hug. The pictures were adorable.

Lisa - I would love the vegan butter-nup squash soup recipe. Chloe is getting two Cafe Gratitude cookbooks for Christmas and a blender (she wants to be able to make smoothies in her dorm). Demi is getting the ice cream maker attachment for her kitchen aid and a vegan ice cream cook book. Chloe is drafting a letter to someone at her school explaining why the cafeteria food choices don't suit her and why she shouldn't be forced to buy the school's food plan. She isn't very optimistic that it will work but you have to give her credit for trying. I will think good thoughts about J-P traveling on Monday.

Beverly - are you breathing?

Jocelyn - I am so wishing that I was visiting you right now! I haven't been to Hawaii in two years and I am over due!

Carol - I am sorry that you have been stressed about your marriage. Been there, done that. I will pray that 2010 brings you good health and happiness. Thank you and your community for continuing your prayers for Kristi.

Nell - has is Marti these days? Any better? Are you back on step 2?

Hi to Sharonlee, Cindy, Laura, Gena and anyone else that I forgot!

Wow, 10am and just getting up...I think I really needed to sleep last night!

Thanks so much for prayers and thoughts all of you, you are truly a blessing for me!

Kathy - so sorry you are having some down days again, I know the whole holiday seasoning can be quite overwhelming on top of our usual crazy lives! I know Tyson gives out good doggy hugs, like Kate said, since I got a much needed extra snuggle from Harley before bed last night myself!! I will watch for the shakes on sale, as I dont think Rick would go through the trouble of "making" them with protein powders...just kind of beyond his current capabilities...he is being strong for Dennis, but so so hurt in his heart and soul right now that he too, is somewhat handicapped.

Kate - glad you are staying close to plan, and your niece's bad days are fewer and less severe. Still praying for her, and for Natalie's mom too...it definitely could feel like a fuzzy socks, cup of tea and stay in bed day for me, but cant do it right now!! So up I am and off I go!

Lisa -Jocelyn, I wish I felt like their angel right now, but just feel helpless and kind of useless quite frankly! I know that he brightens up and smiles when he sees me, so that alone is doing my heart good right now. All he wanted last evening was to have me rub his back...his skin is so dry and itchy, so of course I have to remember how important the smaller gestures sometimes really are.

Nell - too funny that you cant wait to get back to step 2! Now you know how I feel about step 1! LOL

Bev - so sorry you are having to be "Superwoman" the next couple weeks...be kind to yourself, and remember you can only do what you can do! I agree that a wrapping party would be soo fun!

Carol - dont worry about the cards!! I finally got mine out, but had to do the addressing at work, and didnt have time to add the personal notes I would have liked to include with each one...

BTW, some cards have pictures included...I realized I had my office shots, but half the envelopes were already sealed, so only some got pictures! I know, I know...geez, get it together! I have lost since the pictures were taken, and I do believe my face is thinner now, but it will be awhile before I have another one taken! Im sure Ali will have the camera out at Christmas as she is a wonderful photog!

so sorry if I missed anything, I just skimmed the posts this morning...hope to catch up later on. My super is allowing me an extra 30 minutes at lunch today so I can go see Dennis for a short visit. Hoping he is out of ICU this morning as they thought.

Ken has been stranded with no computer for 5 days, so that sucks too for me...will probably be the weekend before we can talk again. "SIGH" Roger has been sending daily inspirational and uplifting e-mails, so that has been so nice, and some of his siblings have been in touch to say hi too, so I am counting my blessings as always, and thanking GOD for all the wonderful people in my life...my MM's are at the top of the list!

Haven't been doing well on my MM this week. I have been eating crackers, bread and such, but am finding that it is only a couple crackers or a slice of bread. Just not too interested in it anymore :)
I will jump back on the wagon hopefully tomorrow. Just really stressing right now, and feeling very tired from work. But I am grateful that I am working too.

I'll catch up with everyone in a while. Love you all

kathy - so glad that you have been able to control the carbs. You will be able to jump back on with no problems.

We could have a wrapping party for Beverly!!

I wrapped Chrstmas packages at a lovely store during the holidays when I was in college. I don't think anyone wraps packages gratis anymore. We were allowed to do very fancy ones. People would even bring things in from other stores and then we would wrap them for a fee. That was a LONG time ago!!

The we could have an ironing party!! Doesn't Beverly work full time, too?

When the car gets back I have to venture to the post office. UGH. Hopefully it won't be too bad. I go to a smaller neighborhood one that usually isn't too bad. The Waikiki branch is out the door everyday, no matter what time of year so try to avoid it as much as possible.

Jocelyn - Thanks for the offer of the wrapping party. I would love that. I do work part time, but it doesn't seem that way. I am off Sat - Tues., but with the kids activities on the weekend and Bob is off on Mon & Tues so that are normally spent running errands ALL DAY, both home and for his work. Sometimes I think I would be less tired if I did work F/T.

Hello everyone. I hope that Pony not checking in yet is a good thing and Dennis is recovering. I really don't want to stay on step one. :( It's been three days and my liver is clean now. :( Ok, enough whining.

You and your clean liver can now return to Step 2.:lmao:

A wrapping party would be a blast! So would a cooking party!

So now we are wrapping, ironing, and cooking. Can we throw in some margaritas also? Maybe Nell can research and find us some S/F Margarita mix.

Robin - glad Dennis is better, but that sounds like one horrific procedure. I think it was a blessing that you went back on Step 1, because it will be so much easier to regulate while working, running to the hospital, etc.

Good morning everyone! I hope you all had a good night of rest. I slept pretty well, but woke up around 5 with a horrible migraine. Kathy - I hope the shower helped. I have also suffered from migraines, but have found some relief since my hysterectomy. Many hours of my life have been spent in a dark room praying for relief. I remember sitting on the bed because I couldn't even lay down. Prayers for relief for you today.

I'm sorry you are struggling with depression over the holiday season. That can be so hard. Can you try to listen to a little Christmas music? It's hard to feel down when Alvin and the Chipmunks are singing.

I can't wait to see your pic and hope I get one from Robin!

Okay. Christmas tree in the house. Check. Lights on the tree. Not yet. Decorations on the tree. Not yet. At least it smells wonderful. Chloe is always in charge of the lights - thank goodness. Beverly - are you breathing?

Thanks for asking, I am trying to breathe (and not think I have to be multi-tasking at all times). You did make me feel bette to know that I am not the last person in the world who needs to finish decorating a tree.

Sorry Kristi is taking so long to heal, but it does sound like she is moving in the right direction.

Wow, 10am and just getting up...I think I really needed to sleep last night!

Thanks so much for prayers and thoughts all of you, you are truly a blessing for me!

Robin - I hope you feel rested after you lie-in.

As long as you make Dennis happy, that is the best gift you can bring him and Rick at this time. Any relief for him is huge. You need to know how important you are to them. Did they have some lotion you could rub into his back? If not, pick up a nice scented lotion and have at it. It will help him feel so much better.

Instead of Superwoman, I plan to be WonderWoman. I just need those really cool gold bracelets that have all the power and I'll be set!

I hope I get a pic!

Sorry to hear about Ken. I'm sure it would help to be able to "talk" to him right now.

Well, I am at work, so I had better get back to it.

Have a great day everyone!

Yikes. I forgot to say Hi to Natalie this morning. I don't think I mentioned it before but I love seeing you in your avatar when you post! I hope that your mother is better. Both of you are in my thoughts.

Carol: Don’t worry about any deadline with your cards. It will be lovely to get it whenever you can get to it. Sorry for the computer trouble and I’m soooo glad you are well in time for Christmas.:santa:

Kathy: Big hugs to you! I wish we could make up some gourmet coffees and miracle muffins and have a big round table chat together! Let’s do it in our imaginations. I think you feel things very deeply so you are sensitive to the feelings holidays can stir up. Spend some time with Tyson and doing your favorite things. I also sense you are giving of yourself to everyone but Kathy so work in some selfish pleasures too! I’m thinking of a pedicure today…:goodvibes

Kate: I emailed you the soup recipe. Kristi is making small strides, but always in the right direction. Her story will be an inspiration to someone someday. I’m holding good thoughts for Chloe’s success with the food issue at school. Do I sense a Legal Eagle in the making? Will she live on campus all 4 years? If not, maybe she can make some friends to move out with in a year or so. That’s what John-Paul did. Student housing was in an apartment complex and there was no food included. There were 4 boys in a 2 bedroom apt. It was crazy, but he’s made lifelong friends with two of the guys in particular. They make sure and see each other a couple of times a year and I’m quite sure they will work on projects together in their business lives. It’s soooo cool when that happens, especially to an only child.

Robin: I hope I get a picture! If not you have to scan it for us all. I’m amazed you are able to get cards done at all with all that’s been going on. I hope Dennis isn’t too uncomfortable today from that awful procedure. You are an angel and there is comfort even in the smallest of actions sometimes, like rubbing his back.

Beverly: I am all over that s/f margarita idea! That and some lc tortilla chips with black bean nachos and we have a party! It sounds like you were able to catch your breath and it was great to hear everything that’s going on with your family. I miss the hubbub and can’t wait for all the company to arrive on Monday. I hope you get your WonderWoman bracelets for Christmas!:santa:

Love to everyone and have a great day!

I found this book at Walmart. Mine only had 1 that I could find. It is a really great book/ cook book. It has the glymetic (sp) index of some foods, plus lots of low carb info. If you see it, I strongly suggest you pick it up. It was in with the books right in front of the book aisles. If you need bigger picture to see the book, just click on the thumbnails :)
Oh, and Prevention put made it. There are some inspirational stories in it too from low carbers.

Kathy, I hope your headache goes away and that you feel a little better today!

Kate, you need to keep breathing too! I'm glad your house smells good at least!

Robin, I'm glad Dennis is a little better now. I'll keep praying! I think it's a wonderful thing that you slept last night.

Marti is walking easier, which is wonderful. The doctor gave her a choice of getting knee replacement now or waiting. It lasts for ten years, so if she gets it now she'll need the operation again at 60. She's waiting for now because it's easier right now for her. Going back to work as a home health aide isn't going to be a possibility though.

Natalie, how are you doing? You've been quiet lately?

I'm on the forth day of step one and I really don't think I need the full ten days. I don't want to do the program art random though. I may return to step two tomorrow. Step one costs more too. I didn't realize that. I want to do things right however, and step one is necessary sometimes.

Beverly, I don't see how we could do low carb margaritas. Isn't it basically fruit juice? Maybe I'm thinking of the strawberry ones. Kind of fun though. I'm thinking on the low carb coffee brandy still, lol.

Good morning Barb!

Where is Melanie?

It would be fun to all get together, wouldn't it Lisa! I love your nacho's idea!:banana::banana:

Afternoon Nell. Thankfully my headache left earlier this afternoon. I did end up taking a total of 6 excedrin migraine pills. The shower did help a lot too. And my cappucinos too LOL. I am feeling better today emotionally. Tyson did sleep with me last night. I'm not sure if he left Mike much room to sleep though LOL. You have all lifted my spirits more than you realize, and I thank you for it. I have stayed on plan today. Had 1/2 of a Wendy's grilled chicken ceasar salad. It's almost a waist of dressing when I only use a tiny bit. I just tape the opening shut and use it next time.
I'm glad Marti is doing better. Too bad the replacement doesn't last longer than that. I'll say a little prayer about it.

Ok, have to head to work for a bit. Catch you all later.

:grouphug:

I can so relate to everyone lifting your spirits! I look at all of your cards and it's my special collection that makes me so happy! I got Pony's photo and put it beside my sisters. :) I'm really glad your feeling better Kathy!

Ok, I found it but don't want to put it in the recipes until one of us tries it.

Margaritas Low Carb/Sugar Free

Ingredients:

1 jigger (1.5 oz) tequila
2 Tablespoons (1 oz) lime juice - bottled more convenient, fresh tastes a lot better
1/4 cup (4 Tablespoons) water
1/4 teaspoon orange extract
1 Tablespoon's worth artificial sweetener (I like to use liquid, carb-free types)
Ice - small handful
Margarita salt or kosher salt
Preparation:

Wet the rim of the glass and dip into a small plate of salt.

Combine all ingredients. You can either serve it over ice (in Mexico I've usually been served it this way, but I can't say I've had extensive experience), or strained into the glass, or blended in a blender.

2 grams of carbohydrate using bottled lime juice, 2.5 for fresh.

Ok, same thing here. I want someone to try it before adding it to the recipes. :)

White Russians are cocktails of three ingredients: vodka, Kahlua or other coffee liqueur, and cream. From a sugar perspective, the only real problem is the coffee liqueur. A jigger (1.5 oz) of a coffee liqueur can contain almost as much sugar as an 8 oz glass of a cola drink! The good news is that Da Vinci's Sugar-Free Kahlua-flavored syrup tastes quite similar to the real thing (see below for sources).
Note: A Black Russian cocktail is simply a White Russian without the cream.

Prep Time: 2 minutes

Ingredients:

1 jigger (1.5 oz or 3 tablespoons) vodka (nutritional analysis uses 80 proof)
1 jigger heavy cream (or see proportion variations below)
1 jigger Da Vinci's Sugar-Free Kahlua-Flavored Syrup (sources below)
Preparation:

There are two main variations in the amounts of the main ingredients of a White Russian. The first has two parts vodka to one part each of the other two ingredients. The other has equal parts of all three. I prefer the latter, so that is the one I am presenting. If I want a cocktail that is less rich, I will substitute water for half of the cream. This would reduce the carbohydrate to half a gram and the calories to 174.

To make your White Russian, simple put the ingredients in a glass, stir, and add ice.
Nutritional Information: Each serving has 1 gram effective carbohydrate plus 1 gram protein, and 250 calories.

Hi Everyone,
I'm going to take a break from the MM way of eating. Since I went to Step 2 I can't get back into it. I tried restarting from Step 1 and it's not happening. I am so disappointed that I even tried Step 2 - I was doing so well on Step 1.
I'll check in from time to time to see how you are all doing.
Have a wonderful Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year!

Well, somebody almost got a big, hairy, white with brown spots, four legged, shoe-stealing Lobster for Christmas. He has a reprieve though, as the shoe he was accused of pilfering has been found. It was one of my favorite sandals and would have been wrecked if it was out in the hills someplace having gotten wet from all the rain this past week. It was found in the house, so you may all rest easy...for now. I have your addresses, so don't be surprised if you open your door to a Lobster with a big red bow and a mournful look in his eyes guaranteed to suck you right in. Then, it's every shoe for itself! LOL

Oh Diane, please give it another consideration. If anyone has been messing up, it's been me for sure. What is going on? Just out of the "jest" of everything? Too much going on to do it right? Even if you stop this WOE for now, please continue to come here. You are family and will be missed greatly. Anything we can do to help you? I know it's a very stressful time. Seems as though the holidays are so hurried. I will say a prayer for you for whatever may be going on.

If Lobster happens to find that he needs a temporary home because mommy got mad and her sandals are out in the rain, he can come to my house, and Tyson will teach him to leave mommy's things alone :lovestruc
I am very grateful that Tyson never did too much damage to stuff. The worst was the rubber tree plant. Won't even go there. Still a soft spot for me. Every time he would start to chew on furniture or anything he wasn't allowed, I gave him a chew toy of his or his bone. Now he won't touch anything but those to chew on. I will have Tyson give him a talking to telepathically.

Diane, please go back to step one for ten days to get your head clear, and then we'll all help you through the transition. You've got all the help in the world from us. We can help you with your meal planning if you need us to. Three days and you'll feel better. Please don't let your head talk you into giving up on the plan. Right now, if you've been having troubles, it's going to be really hard to make the decision you'll end up the happiest living with.

Diane I was sitting here just kind of thinking. I think I know where your coming from. It's almost like your head is telling you that you messed up, so you may as well say heck with it. I have done the same thing. But think back to how far you have come. Remember when you first went down to a smaller size. Remember how great you felt? Remember how great it was when you started to feel better, sleeping well and all night?
Just because we went off plan doesn't mean we have to throw in our towel. Just pick yourself up, and continue. That's the nice part of this WOL. We are allowed to mess up. That's life. Just don't believe all that junk thinking. You can do it. We believe in you, even if you don't believe in yourself. Think back to how bad you felt before starting this WOE. Remember the brain fog, the tiredness, depression, how crappy you felt?
Let us all pick you up and help you with this. Heaven knows you all have picked me up enough times  Let us be your strength. You CAN do this!!!!
