MM Warriors - Three Steps to Good Health (As of 11/18)

My neice is still in the ICU. She is still on the ventilator so they are putting a tube in her trachea so she will be more comfortable. She turned 22 on Sunday.

Chloe got home last night. She will be home for five weeks!

I got the results for my blood work done. The bad news is that my Graves Disease is acting up and my thyroid is a little hyper. Not as bad as it was three years ago but I have to go on medication to slow it down some. The doctor still thinks I should consider killing my thyroid with radiation or having it removed surgically..... I am going to continue to try to control it with medication for now. The good news is that my chlosteral and blood sugar numbers were all good.

Oh Kate, I'm sorry your neice is still that critical. I'll keep her in my prayers.

Lucky you, Chloe home for 5 weeks! I'm sure that's all you needed to help make Christmas special.

Is there anything that causes Graves to act up? Stress? I hope you're able to control it soon.

Check in when you can, we miss you

I suppose we all have dysfunctional family dynamics at some level, but I really wish, especially this time of year, that it could all be set aside :sad2: My SIL and BIL are our best friends. Their son, who I dearly love, married a gal last May. The minute the wedding was over she turned into a shrew. She picked a fight with my neice and refuses to attend any family functions where my neice is. That leaves my nephew to attend his family gatherings alone. My BIL and SIL and neice are coming to my house this weekend for a Christmas gathering. I asked my SIL to invite my newphew to come along. She feels it would be too awkward for my neice to have the wife there IF she chose to come so rather than hurt her son's feelings and asking him to come without his wife, she won't even mention the party to him. Heavy sigh.

That's awkward and sad. I think it's always best to invite everyone and let them sort it out on their own if they want to stay away. My husband's aunts and uncles are in a feud and they are in their 80's! How long do they think they have before another funeral?? They screamed at each other at my MIL's 85th birthday, but she didn't hear them. We didn't let it ruin our good time either.

Kate: You didn't see me smoking - no way no how - but I'm glad I dropped by!! That would be fun.

I'm so sorry your niece is still having these challenges. Can she communicate with writing things down? All of you can give her strength and the will to fight and recover. She's young and strong. We will keep praying for all of you.

My grandmother had her thyroid removed at a young age and lived a long life. I hope you can find natural rememdies that will work for you. Let's pool our resources and see what we can find out on your behalf.

Enjoy Miss Chloe!

 In their 80's! My neice and nephew are early 40's. I hate to think this could go on that long :sad2: I think at some point people get used to the drama and actually enjoy it, which is sad.

That is an astute observation, Barb. Some people feed on drama. It's really sad. I'm lucky I'm from a family where our core belief is that nothing is as important as our relationships - no matter what. I sort of feel like we all embraced that same kind of foundation here with our MM Warriors, too! We were blessed to find each other. Your comment about needing us to succeed was so sweet and I really think it goes both ways - even when we don't feel the need to draw from the group, someone might be needing us to contribute our support to them so it's important to chime in when we can. I know it's made all the difference to my commitment level knowing you all are there!:grouphug:

kater; Oh noooooo! I don't want to read it! I use stevia every day, several times a day. I use it in my coffee and tea! Say it isn't so

Kate don't fret, Diane was only providing info on both Stevia & Splenda. She uses both herself. I copied the e-mail I received below. The discussions on her blog is interesting on both.

Diane Kress sent a message to the members of The Metabolism Miracle.

--------------------
Subject: Splenda....The facts, the history....the decision? yours!

On Friday, I discussed the sweetener Stevia on MM's blog on http://www.facebook.com/l/676ac;www.themetabolismmiracle.com. Today, there is an equal opportunity entry on Splenda. My feelings? Either sweetener is appropriate on any Step of the Metabolism Miracle. I personally use Stevia in tea (green tea of course) and will use products sweetened with Splenda (like yogurt, ice cream, occasional soft drinks). Please be careful to read ingredient lists of "sugar free" foods. Some products list Splenda on the front label as the sweetener....but on the ingredient list you might find aspartame is also contained in the product. ( A little Splenda in the mix allows it to be used in marketing, but there may also be "unadvertised" sweeteners hidden in the product).
I hope you find the blog entries helpful:

Have a great MM day!

I popped in on the other thread today. Once again people are asking about where GL is and hoping she's ok. Someone mentioned seeing her on Facebook. I wonder if she is totally off the wagon now..

Hi Kate! It's great to see you! I'm sorry your niece is still so sick. I'm praying for her recovery.

Diane didn't say not to use Stevia as far as I could tell. She said it was controversial. It's in her blog. She said it was up to us.

Barb, I'm glad that your losing areas of fat. Your so much healthier because of it. I'm sorry your family is infighting.

I think we should pray for her.

Nell – thanks for the FaceBook lesson!!. I’ll check it out later.

Pony – hope your friend like MM. It would so nice to have someone right there to talk about the way we eat and not think we are nuts!

Lisa – it looks as if a whole new wardrobe is in the making at the rate you are going.

Barb – how sad that one outside person can ruin a family gathering. Enjoy those who come and hope the situation will eventually work itself out.

Kate – so sorry to hear that your niece is not improving to the point of becoming well. Congratulations on the good blood work and hope that controlling the Graves Disease by meds is the way to go. Isn’t that what Barbara Bush had? Busy is good, though, isn’t it?
How nice to have your daughter home for so long. Hopefully you will have time to do things together.
I don’t think Diane is saying not to use Stevia. As Lisa pointed out, the studies done were with rats using VERY large amounts. We don’t consume those amounts at all and we are a bit larger than your average rat! It won’t hurt you to read it! I think there is more consistency to the taste of Splenda than there is to Stevia as they keep mixing it with other things.

I was writing this in Word, so see you have now read Diane's blog.

Off to pick up my work area and pre-cook a couple of things today that I can freeze.

Will be back later.

Well, at least Dennis got to come home for a few days....unfotunately threw a bunch of blood clots in his foot that traveled up his leg in a matter of minutes last night, so back in the hospital for emergency surgery at 3am...now in ICU and things are pretty grave...they have told the hospital folks I am his sister, so I will be going to the hospital in the morning on my way to work to see him....prayers still needed there...

Barb and Lisa - I wish that fighting relatives could know how precious life is and how every day that goes by is a gift...fighting among family is just such a terrible thing, and if anything happened to any of them, I would hope they would feel awful that they had continued their ridiculous feuds...sorry, but seeing a valued and precious life going down the drain quickly just has me reflecting on the value of family and friends tonite...:sad1:

Kate - good to see you checking in, wish you had better news...prayers still going out to your niece and family...and hopefully your meds will get you straight very soon. I always opt for the non-surgical solution whenever possible! I think maybe it was ME smoking in your dream! LOL:smokin:

No opinion on the Stevia thing...I think you guys are right to use whichever one makes sense to you! Im sure that Diane would tell us if she felt the Stevia was something we should NOT use! The fact that she uses a bit of it herself would be all I needed to hear!

Robin: So sorry to hear about Dennis going downhill. We will be praying for him and Rick, too. You are a really good friend to them. You are so right about valuing every moment. We can just live by example and make our little corners of the world as nice as we can and hope it catches on! :goodvibes

Jocelyn: Did we have any other corrections to your addess other than the zip code for the future? I'm honestly just making slow and steady progress - nothing dramatic, but a size and a bit, I would say is finally more obvious to others. I did make another pile for charity today. It's a leap of faith that we won't need those clothes ever again!:scared1:

Guys, I've known people using Stevia since the 60's, so I wouldn't worry, which I don't think really any of you are doing anyway. We're using oregano oil for a lot of things and the dentist asked me if it could kill anyone. I said if oregano killed people, all the Italians would be dead. He's Italian.:rotfl:

Lisa. - my sister says that Kristi still has some paralysis in her right hand which makes writing difficult. Plus, she is really shaky from the steroids. She said that blood work shows that the infection is under control and her lungs are at inflated to 70%. So, things are moving in the right direction. They are starting to wean her off of the ventilator again.

When will J-P be home for Christmas?

Chloe had a great first day at home - she did some baking today, she went shopping, she went to Bikram yoga and she went into San Francisco to hang out with Demi. She is already in bed!

I'm excited for all the Mom's that have their kids coming home for Christmas! :)

I've done two days on step one. Lisa, I've gained weight, not lost it. Remember you said I'd probably lose some weight? I think I do much better on step two. I'm glad this is for a short period.

I'm going to have my before bed chocolate decaf now. I use that D-Ribose supplement every morning and night, and it's a great excuse to have my warm mocha drink at night! Regular cocoa has antioxidants anyway, so I can have it and know it's healthy for me.

Well, I'll talk to you all in the morning! :grouphug:

Hi everyone. Still here, just busy. I haven't read all the latest posts, so I'll do that this evening. My internet has been acting up. We got dish satellite the other day, so not sure when they ran the phone lines for it if it messed up our internet or not.

Have a good day everyone. Catch up this evening with you all
